Nerve
In comparison to Rebel Without a Cause our group thought that this movie depicted teenagers very well but a little exaggerated. The movie we watched was called Nerve and the movie was about an app that had kids doing insane dares in order to gain money and viewers. The idea of having the most viewers is what drives most of the people playing because to them having a lot of viewers equates to fame. Having that fame gives them a something that every teen wants, a sense of belonging. We thought this because the movie did a much better job of showing what high school life is like to the teenage eye. Relating back to Mark Twainâs essay this shows what can truly happen when a corn pone idea/opinion takes over a generation. Compared to our society now apps like Snapchat and Instagram have the same overall theme as the game Nerve does. Teenagers will literally do anything known to man just for attention and to be âlikedâ. Nerve depicts this style of âfameâ based of off social media very well , and based of this information Nerve does a very good job in showing what teenagers deal with everyday.
The characters that the movie has created is very believable to me. This is because the way that the teens felt/dealt with conflict and problems is done in a way that I can definitely see myself doing. Characters such as Venus struggle to explain to their parents how she feels about going to a different college, and not attending the one they have discussed about going to for years. The mother does not understand what the daughter wants or what the best thing is for her daughter. Instead of actually talking to her mother, she kept quiet and always felt like her mom didnât understand her. As a result, this is why I feel the characters are believable because I feel that every teen has thought that their voice doesnât matter and that parents donât understand them.
The audience for this movie is all of the teens who follow a trend/corn pone opinion and what happens when you do. Even though what happened in the movie can be seen as a glorification of apps like Snapchat and Instagram, it still shows what can happen when we become addicted to a trend or culture. In the movie Vee is trying to tell the watchers that they have lost sight of themselves. She said this because they are able to hide behind their screens without anyone actually knowing who they are. The point she is trying to get across is that you no longer are doing what's best for you or what you want, rather you are doing what society and your friends want you to do. This is why I believe the audience are teenagers because she is speaking about how people are stuck in social media and what society thinks of them, which is what a lot of teens do nowadays. The purpose of the film is to send a warning to our generation that if we donât veer off the path of pseudo-fame a game/app like Nerve could actually happen, and now we become the âprisonersâ of a new game. This game will be different and consequences will get much worse. The speaker for this movie is everyone who became prisoners to the game. They are the ones who are trying to say their story, and try and stop someone from making the same mistakes they did.
After the movie I explained the movie to my mom, and she basically described it has much more interactive social media. She explained how she is scared that our generation will become to focused on their âlikesâ on social media instead of being liked in the real world. She said she is scared that people will stop communicating face to face because they are so obsessed and dependent on social media, that we will forget about the wonders of the real world. She doesnât believe that something like Nerve will come true in our life time but based on how things are going she would not be surprised if it happened in the future.

Rebel Without a Cause
As my group and I watched Rebel Without a Cause we were taking notes on our phones on how the movie portrays teenagers and it was very confusing. Throughout the movie we noticed that all the events that occurred were very exaggerated. For example in our school today you donât see random knife fights or people racing to their death. This movie portrayed teens as more rebellious than how they actually are today. Even though these events were over exaggerated and donât relate back to our society, there were some themes in the movie that can be seen in teenagers today. Some of the themes include disconnection from their families, loneliness, and the need of feeling a sense of belonging. In addition something interesting that can be seen in the movies is the concept of friend groups or âcliquesâ. In the movie that portray the clique as very destructive towards other people and very mean and snotty. We as a group agreed that this was very exaggerated because in our society and our school there is not a single âcliqueâ that dominates or controls the school. All in all the way this movie portrayed teenagers is very exaggerated and wrong compared to our modern day society.
As the movie went on I was on and off to see if the characters were believable or not. We were very confused but in the end we agreed that these characters were not believable. The reason being is because every event that happened the teenagers over dramatized it and it was also very hard to figure out what they were thinking and what their emotions were. In addition, the teenagers showed very little respect for the parents by not listening to what they said. Nowadays if a teenager tries to leave the house without telling their parents they would be in serious trouble after.
The audience of Rebel without a cause are teenagers who have relationship problems with their parents. A secondary audience could be the parents of teenagers that feel the disconnection from their child. The overall purpose of this movie is to show the problems of teens even if our problems are way less exaggerated. Finally, we believe the speaker of this movie may be the writers of this movie but I personally think the speakers are three main characters.
I talked with my parents about the movie and how it portrays teenagers in society. They disagreed in the way that the teenagers were seen as but also they agreed with some of the themes. They agreed that teenagers do go against what their parents say sometimes and that they like to do stuff for attention or to feel a sense of belonging. On the other hand, they donât agree with the fact that teens are that disrespectful because my mom said if her or her brother talk to their dad like that, they would be in huge trouble. In conclusion my mom agreed that some teens have a disconnect from their parents but she thinks that they exaggerated it to far.

The Original Sport
As I started to think about what exactly is original, I tried relating to something that I was familiar with such as sports. After doing a little bit of research I found out that soccer was the first sport played with a ball, goal/hoop, and field/court. Dating back to 250 BCE, this was the first time soccer was spotted at. Popular sports such as basketball and football came much later. As a result of soccer many other sports were remixes of that. So the main objective of soccer is to kick a ball in the opposing teams goal and try to earn more points than your competitor. Lets see some other examples of sports. Basketball, the object of the game is to get a ball in a hoop and try and earn more points than the other team. Football, the object of the game is to get a ball in a a players hand in an area on the field to score more points than the other team. Also they can score points by kicking the ball through two gigantic poles. So we can now see how soccer was the original sport which then branched off to many more very popular sports that we know of today.Â

Khalida Popal defied the Taliban and risked her life to play soccer
Khalida Popal was at the top of her game in Afghanistan. She became the captain of Afghanistanâs womenâs national team and was competing on the international field.
Popal was the public face of her team, which did not go over well with ultra-conservative people of her country. She faced criticism, including from people who labeled women soccer players as prostitutes. But that only made Popal more determined to play the sport. So she and some friends practiced on a NATO base, and eventually played matches against neighboring countryâs in Kabulâs Ghazi Stadium.
But the hate over Popalâs love for soccer, which she calls football, in keeping with international standards, turned even more violent and included death threats against Popalâs family. She fled the country, eventually making her way to Denmark where she received asylum. Popal spoke with Marco Werman of The World about her experience and her journey.

Donât take the sport for granted.
Many older people donât have the mobility to play a sport. Everyday, we see accidents being made that turn into career ending injuries. If you are a part of a team, or simply play a sport, do not take it for granted. Work every practice and play every game like itâs your last because you never know when the end is near. You never know when it can all end. The opportunity to play the sport you are playing, and the opportunity to be a part of a team is something that not everyone gets. The bond you build within teams is a special type of bond, and the euphoria you get when winning a game is special type of feeling, so remember this wonât always last. Work your hardest, and play your hardest.Â

Coachable.
You are a part of of team. That is an on going message that is repeated through this blog. You are a part of a team so that you can compete and grow as an athlete. In order to grow as an athlete, listen and fix your mistakes according to what your coach says. He wants you guys to improve, because he wants the team as a whole to succeed. Coachâs need players that are coachable, and athletes need practice to become better. In order to become better, you wonât know how to improve anything. Open your mind and ears to what your coach is saying, and itâll help you and your coach.Â

Confident.
When you get on the field, court, or diamond, hype yourself. Know you can do your job and fill in your role as a teammate. When teammates get on, hype them up. Rally them up. It doesnât matter whether they are the worst player on the team or the best, everyone needs a boost of confidence fueled from people who are trusting them. It will only make you and your team better.

Practice.
Practice earns you playing time. Your coach doesnât hate you. Show that you deserve to play during actual competition. Show off hard work during practice so that he knows you want to get better and will get better. Itâs all about practice.

Believing Leads to Achieving
You may have to play the best team in the country. You may be ranked as the worst team in the state. You never know what can happen if you believe you can win. In March Madness this year, a number 1 seed lost to a number 16 seed in the first round. Anything can happen if you believe.

Pride.
Whether the level of disrespect from an opposing athlete is horrible, keep your own self-respect. Donât go off in a fight. Stay humble and donât let ego take over. Think about the consequences. With the opposing team starts talking a lot of smack and its getting heated, take this as a great opportunity to get ahead in the game. They are mentally worried and not in the right mindset. Fuel anger into field play but not into vulgar language and unnecessary physicality.Â

Back One Another Up
See someone talking a lot of smack? Tell them to stop. The people they are talking to arenât worth it. Why rile them up? What advantage do you gain? You have the chance to be the bigger and better man, and thatâs how you can show him whoâs boss. Itâs all about mental strength.Â

Pass the Ball.
One of the most overused sayings in any team related activity - relative to sports or not - is the fact that there is no I in team. You may have heard this many times, but take a second to process this. Everyone is a part of something larger. In order for a group to succeed, individuals need to come together to contribute. Look past faults within each other but into the strengths and use them to your advantage. No one is perfect, so donât risk your team losing it all by trying to win it all for yourself. Pass the ball.Â

My goal for this project was to bring more awareness to the stages of accepting grief so that teenagers and young adults are more understanding of those grieving the death of a loved one. It is important to understand that everyone grieves in their own way. Not everyone goes through all of these stages and not necessarily in this order. However, all grief takes time and being aware of these stages will help people be more understanding of those who have lost a loved one and their healing process. I will know if this project was successful if at least 10 people like and/ or repost my video.

This article is an interesting one. The first thing I saw was that the US had information about what was going on to the Jews as it was happening, but they didnât do anything about it. In addition there is a poster of an antisemitic poster that was really disturbing, yet the United States didnât step up. There are some good points on why America didnât step in right away and it wasnât the allies job to do anything about it. I think this article gives me many views of America which can help further my argument later on.

As I come to an end to my book I have learned a lot about Edith and the violence she had to deal with and see. I realized how lucky sometimes people are and how people arenât born to discriminate just like how a women Nazi got her some false documentation to save her life. I slowly started to think how my life would of been if some of my ancestors survived and if they were lucky enough to make it out alive.Â

Primary Work 4
As I slowly come to an end to my book I am realizing how much the Holocaust impacted these peopleâs lives. I also came to a realization that people arenât born racist or to hate on another group of people. These people are brainwashed to think this but like Edithâs future husband who didnât believe in whats going on but was still a Nazi. This just shows how you arenât born racist your taught it. Anyways I like how we get a preference that is going on through the eyes of Edith who is watching from the German perspective which is an interesting alternative to how the Jews experience it.

I found a good article on the Holocaust back in Austria and the history of it. It starts off giving the history of the Jews in Austria and then eventually gets into the Jews in the Holocaust. It also talks how Hitler and the Austrian president decided and talked about stuff.
