My Tarot Card Designs

These Tarot cards were made with some difficulty to them. I would say that the Ace of Wands was the most difficult because of the way i would have had to cut out the hand as there were fingers in the way. I had to make it look like the glowing light is being grabbed and eventually I was able to do so. The Magician wasn’t so hard to create as all I had to do was cut out a torso from a model that I found online and stuck it onto Jay’s head and legs. In addition, I used the liquify tool to make Jay’s face a lot more funnier to add my own twist on Tarot cards. Overall, I think it was all successful.

Sticker Designs

I used some tools in Illustrator to create my stickers. A few of these were: the pen tool, fill/live paint and brush tool. I used the two colours that I chose to create something that would stand out. It would catch peoples eye because of how vibrant the green is and the smooth black outlines compliment it too.

My Chosen Musician - Drake
Born Aubrey Drake Graham on October 24, 1986, in Toronto, Canada, Drake grew up with music in his blood. His father, Dennis Graham, was a drummer for the legendary rock 'n' roll star Jerry Lee Lewis. An uncle, Larry Graham, played bass for Sly and the Family Stone. Drake says that his mother, Sandi Graham, also hails from a "very musical" family — his grandmother babysat Aretha Franklin.

David Carson
David Carson is a prominent contemporary graphic designer and art director. His unconventional and experimental graphic style revolutionised the graphic designing scene in America during 1990′s.
He was the art director of the magazine Ray Gun, in which he introduced the innovative typographies and distinct layouts. He is claimed to be the godfather of ‘grunge typography’ which he employed perpetually in his magazine issues.
His work relates to mine because I created a collage and used letter blocks to print words onto it in the style of him.

Letter Blocks / Collage

In this lesson i used black ink and a roller to add a grunge effect to my collage. I didn’t do the same on the first collage because I felt as if it would ruin it. I composed my collages in an abstract way because to me, it came across as minimalistic as there was still a lot of space on the paper. Also, I used letter blocks and put them in the ink and then pressed them onto my work to create the words ROAM (R0@M at the top) and FREE (in the middle).

Otto Götz Mono printing
Götz was extremely active in exploring print-making techniques. He was interested in mono printing, a technique of drawing directly onto an etching plate, which is then imprinted onto sheets of paper. Each monotype is unique, incorporating unrepeatable chance effects. The biomorphic forms that appear in these works reflect Götz's interest in Surrealism.

Mono Printing / Carbon Paper Drawings

At first I used the whole collage ( 2nd and 4th photo) to print it onto another piece of paper through both carbon and mono printing. This led me to use different parts of the collage to create a weird outcome (Last photo)

David Szauder - Failed Memories
David Szauder’s latest series ‘Failed Memory’ is a work inspired by the parallels he sees between human and digital memory: ‘Our brains store away images to retrieve them later, like files stored away on a hard drive. But when we go back and try to re-access those memories, we may find them to be corrupted in some way.’
David Szauder always adds short narratives to accompany each photo, which often give insight why the subject appears in such way and how their mind has been altered.
There is for examples the regular churchgoer starting to doubt himself, a group of friends getting too deep into their discussion of metaphysics or a glamorous woman is driven to paranoia by the bubbles in her champagne. We think his visual narratives are exciting like crime stories and more than worth ‘reading.’

David Samuel Stern

I think that David’s work is successful because he utilises 3D shapes to give a better mixed effect on his work. He presents the theme of mixture well.

What I like about his work is that he uses the 3D shapes in his work and it creates a mesmerising pattern in his work.

Overall, I don't think there’s anything that David needs to do to improve.

Ana Strumpf
I don't think that Ana’s work is successful because a lot of people can recreate it easily. In my opinion, if you're an artist I think that you should make it so that your work is a one of a kind and so no-one could replicate it.
I don't really like her work because it all seems more child based which means that her artwork doesn't feel like it’s aimed at my age group.
Overall, I think that Ana could improve her work by aiming her work towards higher age ranges.
About Ana Strumpf: "Illustrator, interior and product designer; and creative consultant. Ana Strumpf is all that, but looking at one thing: a creator. She has already borrowed her playful and colorful look to sign partnerships with brands like Walt Disney, Nina Ricci, Keds, Seletti, DVF, Clinique, Tod's, Smashbox, La Mer, Samsung, Sanrio, Tok & Stok, Micasa, Ellus and White Wallpaper His drawings have illustrated pages from Vogues Brazil, Korea and Bambini; , Bazaar Hong Kong and Chile, Marie Clare Russia, and Glamor USA, among others.

Hattie Stewart
I think that Hattie’s work is successful because she has edited and created her work in her own style which makes every piece of work very unique.
What I like about her work is that she makes a lot of animated stuff in her own way. She also uses a lot of the same colours which makes all of her work stick out as not many artists keep using the same colours. In addition, she uses all types of abstract patterns which I really like.
Overall, I think that Hattie doesn’t need to do anything to improve her work
About Hattie Stewart: Hattie Stewart is a young London based illustrator. A self – proclaimed ‘professional doodler’ her unique and playful style extends itself through art and fashion. Having worked with designers such as House Of Holland, Marc By Marc Jacobs and Adidas, she has also exhibited in Miami, L.A, Bangkok, New York, Berlin and London. Most recently her notoriety has increased due to a project aptly titled ‘Doodle-Bombing’ where she draws over the covers of influential fashion publications such as Vogue and i:D. Recently completing a new project doodling on 14 Vintage Playboy’s, Playboy itself gave their thumbs up and shared the project on their official Facebook page. Currently working on several high end collaborations, Hattie is set for a exciting and busy year.
