    DESPITE HIS PROTESTS,  ignis characteristically continues aiding to his wounds. with a not-so-subtle sigh of defeat, the young prince slumps back  &  allows his friend to patch up the myriad of cuts and scratches he’d acquired over the past few days. noctis had kept quiet about it;  quite unlike himself. what matters most right now is that they keep moving.  ‘ if we stop now, i don’t know if i... ’  there’s no use thinking about it ——   not now.  he knows that, but it’s written all over his face.  (  insomnia, his dad ... )  who knows what else’ll happen ?  all that anxious, restless energy seems to drain from his face;  seep from his body, and his fingers clasp together in his lap. ‘ stop trembling, damnit... ’ 

    “ ... sorry, iggy. ”  he speaks, quiet. more than anyone, noctis is acutely aware of how ticked off he’s been as of late. an understatement, really. 

    “ thanks. ”  noctis pauses, a little bashful as he glances up at his bespectacled buddy. none of them deserve to have to deal with his temper tantrums;  they’ve all lost something. sometimes he has to remind himself.  ‘ not all of them have to be king ... ’  his lips curve down at one corner, subtly. ashamed to be letting himself feel this now,  &  in front of his advisor at that, he averts his gaze. waves a hand, nonchalantly.  “ been sleepy. i’ll be more careful next time. ”

    “  ——  you, uh ... okay there ? ”  the prince inquires, notably taken aback by the sudden weight against his side;  unobtrusive as it is. he doesn’t enjoy bumping into strangers, never mind being caught in awkward predicaments where he’s stuck beside them for a prolonged period of time.  ‘ not that this sorta thing happens often. ’  he considers,  ( at least, not since having left insomnia  )  &  man is he thankful for it. despite all he’s wound up doing on the road so far, providing care and  /  or assistance to others isn’t exactly noctis’ forte. 

    he awkwardly lifts a hand, as though in some hapless attempt to make sure if she falls he’ll catch her.  man, he hopes she doesn’t fall. 

    “ are you sick ? or, uh ... ”  asking her if she’s drunk one too many would probably get him a verbal thrashing from ignis, so he holds his tongue.

    THE PRINCE IS SILENT  as ignis sets the bowl down before him,  &  the aroma hits him before the sight does. almost pleasant, but still ...   a little off-putting. it comes as no surprise to him, then, that it’s chock-full of steamed veggies.  ‘  man, why’d you wake me for this ... ’  noctis complains, inwardly. it bleeds into his expression,  a groggy curiosity  contorting into discernible displeasure with the scrunch of his nose  /  the furrowing of his brows. with a soft groan of disapproval, he nudges at the bowl and glances up at his friend.

    “ ... iggy, ”  he speaks  ——  as much a hopeful confirmation he does not, in fact, have to eat everything that’s been put in front of him as it is a quiet protest.
