Hinata in Brazil

Everyday I think about Hinata in Brazil, that panel where he's sitting in the corner of his room overwhelmed. His phone wallpaper his friends. Getting a job as a delivery cyclist because biking was so familiar to him. Running in Oikawa, some familiarity, the Great King, there in his new city. Playing beach volleyball. Meditating on the beach in the mornings. Working hard to pursue his dream even as he sees Kageyama and everyone he knows thousands of miles away moving ahead with their own lives. Bonding with his roommate over manga. I think about Hinata in Brazil, alone but determined. Getting stronger. Hinata ready to stay on the court the longest.

Returning and debuting with the MSBY Black Jackals in Japan. His handshake with Kageyama at the start of that game. How he's been waiting for Hinata. They've been keeping track of their personal wins and losses against each other. They've been waiting for this. Kageyama and his grandfather's promise that "If you get really good someone better will come along and find you." That is realized now.

He and Hinata exist in the volleyball world together, pushed by each other, their highschool days crucial and their time apart since Karasuno equally formative. Kageyama's middle school comment of genuine frustrated curiosity brought on by Hinata's apparent but (very) unpolished athletic skill "What have you been doing all these years?" taken as criticism by Hinata now can be asked again.

"What have you been doing all these years?" Learning. Training. Improving. The Hinata that steps out in that debut match is not the same player who left for Brazil. It's so exciting to watch the realization of the other players. The game has changed again. Hinata has brought a new challenge. The Monster Generation has all shown up on court. Who will stay on the longest?

I feel like when they were young Tsukishima would have also called Yamaguchi by his first name but it eventually reverted back to his last name after Tsukishima decided that calling Yamaguchi by his first name would be totally lame and he would never do something like that because he's "really cool!!" Anyway he would probably get over it towards the end of high school and start calling him 'Tadashi' again.
