As much as I want more aro representation in media, I find more and more, that what I really want is characters who just aren't in relationships without this ever being commented on.
Because yeah, aros are great and we absolutely deserve rep, but if the only time it's okay to not be in a relationship is if you're aro then what kind of message does that send? That's not doing anything to challenge amatnormativity
I want more characters who just don't date, and maybe they're aro and maybe they're not. Because no matter how you identify, some people just don't want to date, or aren't interested, or don't want a committed relationship. And we need to live in a world where that's okay.

I have an aromantic perspective on love
THIS IS NOT ABOUT PLATONIC LOVE THIS IS ABOUT HOW BEING IN LOVE WITH SOMEONE DOESN'T ALWAYS MEAN ACTUALLY LOVING THEM

I genuinely hate when people invalidate demiromantic/demisexual/other labels in general by saying somethin like "OMG!!!! why do these labels exist that's how every relationship is!!!!! what has this generation come to?!!?,!?!!"
some people out here are dating someone they just met two days ago. while it literally took me two whole years of getting to know someone before having a crush on them. can y'all please not find excuses to invalidate aspec/arospec people. thanks

Been thinking about how one of the reasons, if not the main reason Takahashi ended up getting to be a family with Sakuko was because he yelled into the void. He made the choice to reach out, in a way. He created his blog where he could rant about amatonormative society whenever he wanted and just be his authentic aroace self.
He probably didn't think much about if someone like him might find it and feel comforted or understood, it was mostly his personal corner to be free in. He definitely never could have guessed someone in the same area would relate to every word and would manage to put together that he ran the blog.
I dunno the whole idea just means something to me. He spent so long being quiet about himself until he finally got loud enough that another voice who happened to be listening for ones like his decided to respond. Am I making sense???
Makes me think of the online aspec communities and how we all find each other. Many of our blogs start out as us just wanting a private spot to complain or vent a little. A lot of the time we think there must be something wrong with us and we're the only one that feels the way we do. Until others start responding, saying "Hey, me too!" and "I thought it was just me!". Before you know it you've got a group of people that are living proof you're not alone, and they've got your back.

A traditional "knight saves the princess" story except at the end, the princess sighs and goes, "I suppose you want my hand in marriage as a reward" and the knight goes, "Oh, no, I'm just new in town and wanted to make friends but I've got really bad social anxiety" and the princess is like, "Rad, because I was never gonna fall in love with you" and they live happily ever after as besties (they're both aroace).

No one else has the right to tell you what labels you can or can't use, no one else the right to tell you what you're experiences are or deny the ones you've shared.
