why are people so obsessed with everything being an app? I keep seeing so many things people just asking for whatever to have an app and it's just like. or you could just use the fucking website. websites do exist. you can use them. it doesn't need to be an app.

The post was indeed made in April, literally in the hours after the news broke about the Pope's death, so it is very funny to me that the post continues to be popular but now everyone assumes he must've been thinking about the elevator.

My elevator update is that days later this note appeared:

saw the guy who is repairing our apartment elevator cross himself while reading something on his ipad which we can only hope relates to his feelings about the pope's death and not his feelings about the state of our elevator

i need to complain about a phenomenon on reddit's namenerds that grates on me. someone will want to give their child a middle name honoring a family member, but they don't want to use that family member's literal name (often because it's too dated) so they will ask for suggestions of other names that are kind of like it. i don't really get how this is honoring anyone??? like it's one thing to be like, i would like a feminine version of this masculine name and so will name my daughter georgina after my father george, or my mom's name is elizabeth but she goes by beth so we will use just beth. it seems like a whole other thing to pick an entirely different name. right now on there someone wants to give their kid a middle name in honor of their mother heather and suggestions in the comments include to name the kid erica because "it's latin for heather", to name the kid winona because the actress was in the movie heathers, or to name them something like henrietta or katherine because there are some sounds in common. like what are we even doing here. "heather, we decided to name the baby in your honor, and so we have named her katherine."
