How do you go about deciding how much detail to put into your backgrounds for your comic? I love ur style and comic so so much, it's absolutely beautiful!! But I am dreading making my own because I feel like I'll either do too much for the bg and burn myself out, or not enough and then I won't like it as much... Any advice would be helpful, thank u! <3
First of all thank you so so much for reading Apex Predator!
Now to the point. I'm very inexperienced at the moment and don't know if I'm the person who should give tips about comic making but I'll do my best
Besides being simply decorative backgrounds can play as much role as your characters and help tell the story so
The most detailed backgrounds are usually for panels that show your audience the scene of action and/or show the placement of your characters/important objects

Once you've familiarized your audienced with the area it becomes less important so we don't need to see as much. You can leave the most important things (like objects important to the story or objects your characters interact with) and vaguely outline the rest

When it comes to panels that show an emotion or an emotional moment (usually upclose but that's not a rule) the background can be a distraction so it's totally fine to not incline it at all

If you're unsure about how much background your panel requires you can - look for a similar panel or a scene in other comics. Or just ask someone, sometimes when you're working on something for a long time you lose the ability to sense it and you need an audience to help you
Two more tips i can share:
if you absolutely need to draw a background and it has a ton of straight lines but you don't want to make them with tools that make them look machine-like you can draw a couple of straight lines by hand and then copy paste them
and if you drew your background and it still feels empty try adding some texture to the objects
and/or some texture or noise to the layer
That's all I can say for now! Good lunck with your comic!!
#of course like with all the rules in art those too can be bent#these are just the most common principles. if you feel like you need to act differently - follow your heart it's probably right

Hello I love ur ocs and they way you write them sm!! Just wanted to say you naming my favourite of them Pauk inspired me to include more of my language and culture in my work too (I'm Croatian haha) hearing him be named that was super cool!
Thank you!!
That's awesome, so glad to hear that! :] More slavic people should include their language and culture in their work. Foreign cultures are cool but ours are not less admirable! (hi from Ukraine!)
#i'm said to inform that Pauk wasn't originally named in croatian#but since he was named in a language i don't want to mention here or anywhere - he's now officially named in croatian#thank you!#ask vovk

Just saw your sea dragon mermaid post, and wondered if you’ve seen subjectively’s mermayzoic works? I dunno if they’re your style, but I thought I’d recommend just in case :]!
they're a little bit too fantasy for my taste but gorgeous nonetheless. thanks for recommending :]
#if anyone thinks i should check out an artist or their work i might enjoy - please do recommend them!#i love discovering new creative people#ask vovk

still thinking about one day making Forest Manuscripts tarot cards but always getting stuck deciding which character should represent which card. I don't know whether i should choose visually or thematically (by their meaning)
for example visually Birch could be the moon and her daughter Fern - the star but the best card that suits Birch by meaning is the hermit
#(okay I'm glad too see that I'm not the only one who thinks that and it's not “caring too much”)#(good to know)

I've been playing the new Hades 2 update, went to fight Chronos, somehow got 500+ damage three times in a row, still prevailed but was super confused because i had no idea where the damage was coming from
i decided to investigate and apparently what happened is Chronos now has new subjects that he summons and one of them is a hourglass that shoots lasers at him filling the arena with lasers for you to avoid and silly me with my Night Bloom hex (the one that reanimates enemies) that was making the raised enemies stronger and faster was raising these hourglasses that were waking up and were like "OH! so you're the boss now :3" and shooting the laser straight at me
