Why they’re a pirate: Adri was born at sea, and spent her formative years sailing alongside her parents with the United East India Company (aka VOC). She decided that the passive merchant life wasn’t for her after a run in with some pirates, and began looking for a crew. It didn’t take her long-- lingering around the docks one day, she spotted an old friend (Jav’nen) aboard the Marama and snuck on to join him. Unfortunately, she’s not very sneaky and it wasn’t long before she was caught. Her talent at the wheel has bought her continued stay.

Why they're a pirate: It was become a pirate or death, and there's no pride in death. The people he sailed with ultimately crossed the wrong person, and they were given the choice, and the choice his current captain made was congruent with his own — piracy is fine as long as it's not his life wasted for something as useless as hubris, as his former captain would have had him die for that rather than be a pirate. But now said former captain is dead, Itri's still alive, and that's about all that matters, right?

Specialties: Anything in the arts, including but not limited to; singing, dancing, acting, musical instruments, calligraphy, poetry and literature. Because the geisha community she was raised in prided themselves on being self sufficient and independent women rather than just objects of desire, they placed education in their training first above everything else therefore making Sae very knowledgeable in a number of subjects. Basically she's smart.  She’s also skilled at adapting to different situations and people as it played a big part in catering to the guests/clients. 

Languages: Japanese is her mother tongue but she is also very proficient in Korean, Cantonese, Mandarin and Vietnamese. Her English is decent just enough to be able to communicate what she wants. She has also picked up random words and phrases here and there from pirates and travelers.

How long they’ve been a pirate: She doesn’t consider herself a pirate but I would say around 3 years? (This might change based on character interactions/connections later on.) 

Why they’re a pirate: For her it wasn’t a choice, she very much enjoyed her lavish and glamours life as a geisha. It all ended when group of barbaric pirates pillaged their way through her town on Hokkaido Island for no reason other than to indulge in some chaos and ransack around for any sort of valuable treasures. Everything in her life was destroyed right before her eyes, her friends either dead or kidnapped, very few lucky ones escaped but she unfortunately was not among the latter. These very same pirates eventually met their match when the clashed with the Marama crew in a very intense and violent battle, since she had no part in the conflict they decided to spare her life and bring her abroad their ship. She has now been apart of their crew for about close to 10 months.

Specialities: A rather talented artist - any ship she’s ever been on has been subject to her painting and carving skills, excellent at filling, fixing, patching, and maintaining a floating confabulation of wood (ship), smashing back twenty pints of ale and still being able to balance a dubloon on the tip of her nose, finding things.

How long they’ve been a pirate: A year and a half. 

Why they’re a pirate: She was left for dead by her people, her family, and human pirates came upon her wreckage and pieced her back together the best they could. She has a deep respect for humanity - and much love lost for where she came from. She doesn’t take too kindly to running into fellow Atlanteans, and doesn’t care for nor wants to be involved with anything or anyone relating to, in search of, or creating things from Atlantis. Being without a right arm and leg, some of her home country’s tech would probably help smooth some of the kinks out of her steampunk contraptions - but she’d never let it near her, or even contemplate the thought of it.

He chased one criminal (Kal) to the surface where Jav'nen discovered the multitude of dangers threatening the exposure of Atlantis. Because of this he is now undercover as a pirate himself

He uses his knowledge of a number of Atlantean treasure caches to buy passage on the various ships he picks out.

Why they're a pirate: From canada orginally (heyoo) and is part white and part native american and always had a thirst for learning, especially in medicine and in history but was always denied further education or anything past the basic education her father (white) allowed aka. reading, writing, etc. so she ended up stealing books from her father's library and just absorbing everything she could during the time when she wasn't made to work which coincided with when her father was away at work ; when her father found out he put her on a boat to france to her aunt but the ship ended up crashing and she ended up dressing as a man and got herself work here and there until she got herself a job on a french ship as a historian until she ended up running away and joined the Siren's Maw until she was transferred over to La Sterne

Languages: Fluent in French Sign Language and Atlantean, can understand and somewhat read/write French and some English, among bits and pieces of other languages spoken by his crewmates, but he himself is nonverbal above water.

How long they’ve been a pirate: Around six years 

Why they’re a pirate: In Atlantis he’d been a coral shaper, an architect, and he should have been perfectly happy. Should have been. But deep inside, curiosity ate at him, flavoring his days with discontent and frustration. What was out there, beyond the bounds of the city? What experiences was he missing out on, at the bottom of the ocean, watching shadow plays upon the walls?  When he finally hit the surface he was scooped up by a pirate crew, and used his architectural knowledge and keen attention to detail to make himself invaluable. Years later, he’s been passed along and makes his bed on a different ship, but he relishes the air upon his skin all the same.

Learned to read very young (hyperlexia), and continued to search out anything he could in whatever language was available.  He’s taught himself a number of languages to expand what’s available for him to read.

Learns language in written format first, so has the tendency to mispronounce words in more than one language he speaks, due to not typically speaking with others, and only ever having read the language. 

One of his first memories (alongside sitting on his mother’s lap while she pointed out written words to him for the first time) is of seeing a ship pulling into dock, outfitted with more sails than he could count, and the maze of lines connecting one to the next.  It was monstrous and beautiful, and he’d never shake it from his mind.   As he grew up, he’d sketch that same ship over and over, each time adding his own touches until it became unrecognizable from the original.

Heard stories of Atlantis first in his teens.  Originally he brushed it off, until it became and recurring motif in the stories of old sailors and retired pirates.  He persuses whispers of it until he hits dead ends.  He’s enthralled at the idea of such a place and the technology that undoubtedly lives there.

Czar is an engineer and a tinkerer.  He’s found often times hunched over a workbench, fiddling with delicate designs.  Other times, he’s stood over a forge, hammering metal in a far less careful process.  He controls his creations from beginning to end, preferring not to outsource any steps within the creative process.

Why they're a pirate: She left her life of wealth of privilege as a means of escape, as she felt the freest on the open seas. She joined a pirate crew when she was seventeen and worked at the bottom of the rungs and moved upwards until she became her captain’s quartermaster. When their captain perished at the hands of the british, the crew of the Marama voted and chose Veda as their new captain, who has brought about greater success than they had had before and recently overtook another pirate ship and raided their ship, brought over some of the crew members they saw fit and willing and had the others walk the plank before blowing up the ship

How long they’ve been a pirate: Nineteen years, so almost all of her life for the most part, save for a period of a few years after her parents’ deaths where she had to rejoin civilization as a law-abiding citizen to make some income. Which, of course, didn’t last very long because piracy is in her blood. 

Why they’re a pirate: Her father was a former Royal Navy officer but left to be with her mother who introduced him to a life of piracy. When they had Reena, her father stole off with a prized Navy frigate that their crew had overtaken and fled in the night with his family and a few crew members who had decided to help him break a golden rule: being stupid enough to steal from pirates. A flourishing fifteen years followed for The Blessed Gem, which Reena’s father had named after her as a symbol of good luck, but it didn’t last. The crew they’d stolen from found them again and left two survivors: Reena and her father, who died shortly after, heartbroken over the death of his wife and crewmates and the destruction and decommission of his ship. All alone, Reena decided to restore The Blessed Gem after she financially got back on her feet and set out for the seas in search of new adventures... with a side of revenge.
