Thinking about what happened on the retaking of L'manberg again, ohh boy. (RP)

Maybe Phil didn't know that he was actually killing wilbur?

He arrived to this place that his son had talked about, only to see it in chaos. The only things he knew had been told to him through the letters Wilbur sent, so when he didn't see him in the crowd in front of the presidential stage he went looking.

From what Philza said that one conversation with Ranboo it seemed like the letters he'd received were quite happy, like Wilbur always phrased what was going on as "having fun with his friends in the country he created". And because of that it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to assume that he never mentioned dying, losing a canon life or the final control room. Because maybe he didn't want to worry his dad, or simply just wanted to talk about the good bits.

So when Phil was standing in front of Wilbur, seeing the kid he raised out of his mind and quite literally begging to be killed. He had to decide fast. And in that hurry, in that situation where everyone was watching them down by the crater of L'manberg, Phil decided to take him away from there.

He was probably hoping that Will would just respawn somewhere else, somewhere quiet where they could talk. Where he would listen to what Wilbur had to say, and see what he could do to help when they weren't under the constant gaze of those in L'manberg.

But instead he learns that Wilbur died.

Instead he learns that he was the one to take the final bit of life his son had left in him.

And he mourns.

( this still works if Wilbur actually talked about the final control room in his letters!! Considering the fact that he lost his second life right on election day by Punz, right when he stopped sending letters. )
