I am thinking of shelving the daily studies project altogether. Despite trying at the start of the month I just have not been able to get back into the studies and I am only going to get more busy in the coming few months. I’ll give it a think and I also will still try and do some more studies but at this point I am just not feeling motivated for it anymore

Day 3: brown bear.

I always quite liked the lighting in the original photo so I had to do a study of it! Turns out the highlights are all quite concentrated!

Day 2: iguana.

Back to a hard round brush. You can tell I started with a general blocking in of values before focusing on and refining the head. I’m also including the lightest and darkest values now.

May value studies day 1: tortoise. Wahey, I’m back from the break, ready to get back into the daily studies! This is based on a very underexposed photo I took. It’s not a very good photo, but it was great to get an initial grip on value studies!

as you may have noticed there have not been any studies for a bit. So I think I’m officially gonna call it a break this month. I had nothing prepared for master studies and I also already missed a whole bunch of days due to my vacation and subsequently falling ill. So I’ll be back with value studies next month!

The next few animal studies, if I get any done, will be with pen and paper.

Day 26: Cupboard spider.

So much detail in this little friend! I did a more focused rendering of the abdomen because of that. Fun fact: The photo features the spider that was living in my room for half a year, I called her Buddy, I said good morning to her everyday and I enjoyed observing her while she ate or moved around her web.
