About My Art
Throughout my art, one of the main things I focus on is surrealism as I enjoy using heavy editing in my photography and focusing on symbolism. In my Y13 art project, I decided to choose Character Design to explore how people can relate to and project onto characters in media (regardless of whether they are human, anthropomorphic or animal) and how important it is that people are accurately represented in media and do have these characters that they can relate to. I also deeply explore anthropomorphisation in my art, and how people will often project human concepts onto animal characters. In my Y13 photography project, I chose to explore how social media and technology impacts our relationships, mental health, self-perception and perception of others and our psychology.

Editing and Photography

A series of developmental edits inspired by Nuria Riaza! The drawings were made by me, and I did the editing, however I did not take the photos of the moon or sky as I didn't have any that worked well enough at the time of making the edits.

A photo and edit inspired by Ellen Sheidlin! These photos were both taken by me, and the custom props used (social media inspired drink bottles and cigarette boxes) were made and designed by me. This photo was for my photography class, where I was raising awareness on issues with technology and social media.

An Andreas Varro inspired edit and developments! All photos used in the edit (both the thumbs and the main image) were taken by me. This peice was also part of my social media photography project, and aims to raise awareness of clout chasing and causal neglect of animals/pets in pursuit of social media content.

Another Andreas Varro inspired edit and development! Again, this was also part of my photography project. All photos used were taken by me, and the bottles and cigarette packet were reused from my Ellen Sheidlin photo (so were also made by me).

My final Andreas Varro edit and development, that was also part of my social media photography project.

Character Design
Character Design is one of my passions, so some of these peices are from my Character Design project at school, and some are self-initiated projects done at home. This will be listed beneath each peice!

This is a Felicie Haymoz inspired digital peice! It was based on a photo of my friend, taken by me. It is part of my Year 13 character design project.
This is a character I designed as part of my self initiated art at home! However, it was inspired by Lauren Faust’s work, who I studied at school as part of my project. Later in this portfolio, you will see that someone requested to buy this character from me, and then returned to me to comission art of it.
This is another Felicie Haymoz inspired character design that I drew at home, as part of my self initiated art rather than my school project. This peice was drawn straight from my head rather than based on someone like the previous Haymoz design.
This design was also part of my self-initiated art, as someone approached me to request it. Again, it was not based on any observational photos, and the moodboard featured in the back is what the commissioner provided me to work from as inspiration.
This character is also part of my self-initiated art, as I designed it to sell. This character was also not based on any observational imagery, and I drew it straight from ideas in my head.
This character is part of my self initiated art, however I drew inspiration from it from artist Nico Marlet, who was the character designer for the How To Train Your Dragon films, and who I studied at school as part of my character design project. This character I did not sell, and will feature in my school project.
This is another Nico Marlet inspired design! When researching him, I found he bases his dragons on pre-existing animals, which inspired me to create a design based on a pre-exsisting creature (a moth)! This design was originally self-initiated, but I will be including it in my school project.

Other Schoolwork Art
These peices of art are here because they do not fit into the other categories of my portfolio.

A small experimental watercolour peice! This was from my year 12 mythology project, and was drawn with no observational imagery (just from my head).

This is a mixed media peice I made using oil pastel pencils, highlighter, watercolour pencils, alchohol marker, white gel pen and eyeliner (I was beginning to experiment with unconventional art supplies). This peice is from my Year 12 project on Metal music and metalhead subculture, so was based on a Mastodon album cover.

Self-Initiated Projects
Art I made of a character that I own! I made this peice to experiment with backgrounds and colour. For this peice, I referenced a photo of a beach and a photo for the pose. Neither were taken by me, so this was secondary observation.
This was a drawing of a character I designed, that was inspired by Nico Marlet. For the colours and background of this peice, I referenced the How To Train Your Dragon film.

This peice was an art commission that someone commissioned from me of a character I designed and sold to them. In this peice, I wanted to experiment more with exaggerated posing.

Puppet Showcase
This is a movement showcase of the puppet I made for my 5 hour Year 13 mock exam. This video shows all of it’s points of articulation, a closer look at it’s clothing, and what my armatures look like. I was inspired to make this puppet by artists Jan Svankmajer and Elizabeth Mcgrath!

Animation
This is the stop motion animation I made for my 5 hour mock exam in Year 13! The puppet, set and clothes were all handmade by me, and the final animation was edited together by me. The entire thing is 266 frames, and runs at a frame rate of 9 fps.

Primary Observations
An experimental sketchbook page, all are observational drawings based on photos taken by me.

A blue biro drawing inspired by artist Nuria Riaza, drawn from a photo taken by me. Later on in this portfolio, you will see developments I made to this peice on Photoshop!

An observational peice drawn from a figurine I had in front of me! In this peice I experimented with charcoal.

This peice was made with derwent water soluble sketching pencils, and was primary observation from photos taken by me.
A blue biro sketchbook page inspired by artist Nuria Riaza. All photos were taken by me.

A small watercolour peice where I experimented with colour! Drawn from a photo taken by me.
Another sketchbook page! I decided to experiment with the derwent pencils again. This page is still unfinished. All three cats were drawn from my photos.

A painting of a dragon figurine I made using coffee! The painting was done while the figurine was in front of me.

A pencil drawing done of the same dragon figurine! This was also done with the dragon figurine in front of me.

A black biro drawing inspired by artist Mark Powell. Drawn from a skull owned by my school.

Another coffee painting! Drawn from a photo taken by me.

A drawing made from coloured pencils inspired by artist Marco Mazzoni! Drawn from the photo I used in the collage (which was taken by me).

An acrylic painting done in a sepia, oil painting style. I didn't finish this painting, and it was done of a skull photo taken by me.

Another Marco Mazzoni inspired coloured pencil drawing! I didn't finish it, and it was based on two photos of a skull, and my dog (both taken by me).

A pencil drawing of my dog. It was drawn from a photo taken by me.

A pencil drawing of a skull. Drawn from a photo taken by me.

A pencil drawing of a unicorn! Drawn from a unicorn figurine that I had in front of me.
