I've loved art for most of my life and I've always been fascinated with animation. I hope to work towards a career that focuses on video game development or animation.

End of Fall 2020 Portfolio
https://indd.adobe.com/view/3bea1963-906b-4d9c-bf4f-f28b52a5f760
  1. When I began this class, I definitely had no experience whatsoever to using Adobe and all of its different applications and it was fascinating to learn how to use tools that I’ve never encountered personally before and all of the technicalities to get them to work in a certain way. I definitely feel that the work I have done shows that I have progressed in my knowledge and ability to produce digital art projects in a brand new way that what I originally thought it was done.
2. I’m most satisfied with my Lion Animation (though I loved every project that was done throughout the semester) as that was the project that challenged me the most in terms of getting a taste of what my chosen career will be mostly based on. Learning to utilize several layers, tools, and gaining new knowledge of this category of digital art impacted me fundamentally and only deepened my respect for the hard work that goes into animation production.
3. This semester was truly hectic and difficult to deal with as I haven’t really done fully online classes before, and with the pandemic continuing on and struggling with work while trying to keep my family safe was truly anxiety inducing. And due to this I wish I would have had a stronger dedication to better immerse myself into delving deeper into my learning of Adobe and its applications to gain a better mastery over its tools, but it just wasn’t truly my first concern in this hectic lifestyle so I ended up losing motivation for some things and not taking my time to improve some projects before their deadline. But overall, I am very satisfied with everything that I have learned this semester and this becoming my beginning steps towards my career of choice.

Finished Poster
I decided to draw out the majority of the project since using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop alone wasn’t what I was looking for in this poster. The poster and the story is supposed to be taking place in a cursed storybook to explain why the characters look to be drawn with crayon or another medium. The story is more for older teens as it concerns topics of death, violence, depression, etc. Overall I am still a little unsatisfied with the end result, but I thoroughly enjoyed using Procreate to draw out these characters in my story and see whether a detailed or simple composition worked best. What I wish I could have done better was practice a little more with the technicalities of Procreate and how it would translate into Photoshop once I transferred it over since I did run into a few difficulties when importing. In the end, this project was another satisfying challenge to use another perspective in the process of creating a movie poster for the idea of it being animated.

Poster Nearly Finished
Since I couldn’t get the art style right by using only Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, I used Procreate to do most of the work with drawing and coloring everything then importing it into Photoshop to do some touch-ups.

Now I’ll be working on any details as needed, lightening the background as necessary and blending a bit more in Photoshop.

Poster Progress
Tried out a combination of Illustrator and Photoshop to get this progress done, but I’m still pretty unsatisfied with it. I’ll probably scrap this and use Procreate instead for the characters before importing them to better get the style I’d like and then add the finishing touches.

Poster Make Up
Ideas, sketching layouts, experimenting with different placements of elements, simple or detailed.
Tumblr media
An experiment with Photoshop to make a background layout before character placement, but I was not satisfied as the pictures I found does not work with my ideas and filters either made the background too realistic or blurred it beyond recognition. So I plan to re-do the mock up with drawing the illustrations and probably adding texture using photographs of nature resulting with a mixture of painting and photograph. Photographs including tree shapes, fog effects, night sky, etc. and blending them to match aesthetic and edit these elements in Photoshop. Illustrations will concern the characters, abandoned house, etc. using Illustrator to make a more animated look to it.

Movie Poster Sketch
My ideas, sketches, and references for the poster project
Tumblr media
I got some inspiration from movies that frankly gave me a few nightmares as a kid or just had iconic designs that are very memorable.

Games were also a big influence for my topic and design for this project

Mask Final
Here is my final post for the Mask Project! I really enjoyed the challenge of learning and working with both Illustrator and InDesign for this. I’m proud of how the gradients I created gave the dragon mask its originality and really brought it to life. What I wish I could have done better was to add in a bit more texture but had ultimately forgot about such things while putting the shapes together.

I’m kind of unhappy with how the outline turned out so I’ll probably re-do the whole thing to make it more symmetrical.

Mask Assignment Step 1
I was originally contemplating on choosing a Japanese demon theme but went with a more mythological approach with dragons. These overgrown reptiles have always been a favorite of mine and even more so when they are an integral part to video games.

And I wanted to include the moon and the night sky/sunset with the palette I created from one of the exercises

The causes of my headaches this week
I’ve encountered endless headaches while working on this mini animation project where I would playback each step constantly while trying to figure out flashing backgrounds, missing lines, and all lot of other anger inducing things, but it was fun and a good way to gain experience.
Here is my screenshot of the final.

And the difficult process.

My Finished Mini Animation
Here is my finished project for Week 4! I’m happy with how it turned out but may go back to it in the future to improve it.
Tumblr media
I learned a multitude of tools and techniques throughout the progress of this assignment, anger inducing issues aside, it was a great experience to learn how Adobe Illustrator works and how Animator helps to find and locate any problems when the frames translate into this short video. What I wish I could have done better was to better hammer out details and fix the small things I did not have time to go back to, I also wished that I could have given this animation a more in-depth background with some movement and shade the lion’s mane a bit better. What I’m most proud of in this assignment was my dedication to going back and checking the work constantly to catch major problems like the flashing background and finding the odd little white circles which would pop up unexpectedly while replaying the animation on Animator.
