RIGHT? this episode absolutely annihilated me because this was arthur’s version of 43. this was his moment.

john’s realization was that he doesn’t owe anyone his identity but himself. arthur’s was that he owes it to faroe to KEEP LIVING.

the story about the boy and the village was so important because it establishes that the spirits malam communes with have will. they have the capacity to be vengeful, yet not only is faroe’s spirit with them, she’s in their fires. every light that’s guided them thus far has been her.

i guess what i’m trying to say is that john chose humanity and arthur chose life. and neither of them could’ve done that without the love that they spent so long ignoring and refusing to see.

The if a man kills a child question is so important to me because this is the first time Arthur has admitted out loud that he doesn't deserve to die.

Intention. He knows everything is always about intention and he always has but he's shoved that so deep because he wanted to hate himself so badly. He wanted to punish himself, he wanted to give himself the same fate as his parents for the longest time but after all he's experienced, all he's been through, he knows he doesn't deserve to die. He still loathes himself yes but not for the same reason. He said himself he despises himself. He always will. He wishes pain, guilt, and suffering till his last breath but he Doesn't. Deserve. To die.
