honestly i'd think it'd be pretty nornal to them to have something changed once in a while, just like we constantly replace our bodies cells. however changing the enrire "body" and only carrying over your consciousness would probably be veeery weird to them
a lot of media assumes robots would be immortal but i think its a lot more interesting to explore robots dealing with their parts wearing down and battery life shortening and all the horrible little failings that come with being a complicated machine. sure they can replace parts but you'd assume you cant completely ship of theseus them, or it'd have pretty big rammifications on their sense of identity. idk. give me robots with distinct, unique signs of aging. as a treat.

you know what really amazes me?
modern medicine, especially drugs. like oh yeah we somehow figured out the sleepy molecule and now we can just buy that and take some when we need to sleep but can't.
and most drugs (to my knowledge) are either made in this almost wizardry process of mixing things we already have with parts of that molecule and then creating like the situations that make it most likely for the ingredients to melt together (just in like multiple phases) (i know next to nothing about chemistry, correct me if this is wrong)
but then at some point we were like "hmmm this molecule is really hard to make using wizardry let's just GENETICALLY MODIFY BACTERIA SO IT MAKES IT FOR US" and then we did just that full on "aliens invading a planet and misusing it's inhabitants as some sort of resource production" style.
or also we looked at the fuzz that makes our food inedible and thought "i can make you into a medication that kills bacteria" like???? wtf?????

i think one of the things that adds to the addictiveness of linux is the way package managers feel.
the way that installing, updating and uninstalling software is this standardised process that just works.
like i never really liked windows updates bc they're annoying but ever since i learned that a full system update could be something that happens while i can continue to listen to my music and being in a call with my friends or watching a YouTube video or whatever i feel extra sad whenever i am forced to have my laptop whirr up its fans to 100% for a few minutes bc windows decided 2 am on a Sunday night is the perfect time to force me to do a bios upgrade.

To have one (relatively) high-effort post on my new blog, as a display server as a window manager enthusiast I've always been interested in other paradigms for window management, which is why stuff like Niri's scrolling and "zoomable window managers" (Eagle Mode, Pipeworld) are so interesting. So I was thinking, what's another way to deal with multiple windows on a screen—make them change shape! I know it'd probably be a mess to code, but I've always felt non-rectangular window shapes have so much potential that's never been realized.
Presenting the concept of a "shaping window manager". It lets you drag windows around like a floating WM, but keeps all of them fully visible like a tiling WM.

God I hate how normalized not being in control of your own devices has become. My phone updates in the middle of the night without asking me shit or getting my consent for anything and its like "Oh hi I'm your new AI, please enjoy this forced overlay that you can't exit out of until you go through my tutorial"
"Great fuck you, I would like to uninstall you" "Oh I'm sorry you can't uninstall me! I'm a core system application and if you uninstall me your phone won't function correctly despite the fact that I did not exist yesterday and your phone worked fine" "....." "You can disable parts of my functionality but I will always be here and I will pop up notifications asking you to re-enable me unless you figure out how to disable those too! Then I will still show up in a different color at the top of your settings application telling you that you need to 'fix" a 'problem' with your phone, that problem being that I am disabled. Does that help?"
Like, you know what I can do on my desktop? "sudo pacman -Rdd linux" , this will just fucking remove the entire linux kernel. Fundamentally breaking my computer until I boot up a live disk and chroot in and reinstall it or whatever, and the computer will go "Are you sure (y/n)" or whatever and i'm like "y" and it will just go "Ok you got it boss"
But its mine, I get to do what I want with it. I control the computer, the computer does not control me. I refuse to cede control to my phone or anything else. The thing is a lot of people will joke that like "Oh I love just letting the machine tell me what to do, I don't know what I'm doing, it knows best" or whatever but the thing you have to realize is that when you say that you are abstracting away that "the phone" or whatever is not some value neutral logic driven robot like from sci-fi, it is a collection of the the capitalistic and fascistic desires of the tech oligarch fuckwits that are burning the world to the ground right now. You aren't submitting to the phone, you are submitting to Musk, Bezos, Nadella, Pichai, Cook and all those other evil bastards.
Fuck them, fuck their little AI toys, and fuck this.

every day the idea of working conputer science for the "free market" seems more unappealing and unethical, so i'm seriously considering learning ALGOL or whatever to service germanys government fax machines for the decades to come :3
