Artfight 2023 Collection

This year’s Artfight has come and gone, and it was a pretty active year all things considered. Sent out a lot of attacks, and even got a lot of defenses, especially for Kilua this year. Since a lot of work went into the pieces I did this month, here’s each of the pieces I did for people.

Keep in mind that I was on Team Vampire, so next to the title of the piece, i’ll have a number that corresponds to the person it was for, attributed to near the bottom of the post, and in parentheses, a indicator on which type of piece it was, friendly fire, attack, revenge, etc. Without further ado... here’s what I did this year!

Last Thoughts of the Event:

This year’s artfight I think was one of my favorites i’ve had so far (and i’ve only been around since 2021), but not without some added anxiety.

Some of that anxiety was expected stuff from artfight, like not being able to hit a couple people because I ran out of time and energy, and also dealing with artist burnout a couple time. But some other stuff was personal life stuff, and well... twitter becoming more and more of a trashfire.

That all being said, this year was also really fun. One of my favorite things to do over an artfight is find some way to improve on or just experiment with my art since I don’t really do “big colored pieces” very often, and this year certainly helped push that a little further. I experiment a lot with shading and backgrounds, and I think in hindsight, things like Pieces 2, 5, 6, 8, and Final ended up being my favorites to look at just because the colors and background all just work.

Some of them also allowed me to think up a couple ideas of scenarios to put the characters in that added to how I went about the piece. Pictures 4 and 7 especially clarify that, considering they depict a scenario or even a potential group dynamic that’s pretty fun to think on. 

Though what also was crazy was that I got attacked a lot more than I was expecting to going into this year. Like I expected at least a couple if I was actively participating, but I got hit with... well 7 technically, but one was a mass attack Volt was included in, not directed at me, so 6 officially. It was a neat surprise to keep waking up to a few of them, and a lot of them focused on Kilua, she got a lot of love this year. (dw, Volt got a couple too actually). I’m really happy about that, and I love all the drawings people did, they all capture something about the original designs that I love, while translated into their own styles. Dibnibs in specific went and even added backgrounds to them after the event passed, and they (not just mine but a couple of the others I saw) look awesome.

Whatever the case though, the event went really well. I got quite a few pieces sent my way, and I was able to put out a lot of pieces, and a lot of those pieces I really like how they came out. I was on Team Vampire this year, but I think I can say i’ll win either way because I only was on there because a lot of my mutuals were going werewolf, and I wanted to have opposition. That and, I just like Werewolves more.

New 2023 Reference Sheets

Another year, and another set of remade reference sheets. 

Here’s the new versions for the glowy-eyed rat siblings; Voltia Nakano and Kilua Nakano-Parfum

Volt Nakano is a somewhat scatterbrained but spirited pikachu with immensely powerful electricity but has to deal with anxiety and difficulty communicating. They are usually pretty low-energy but can be really stubborn at times. They’re also a little flippant to danger.

Kilua Nakano is a crafty yet ferocious former thief with a love of sweets. She puts up some fronts and can initially come off as cold, but she is fiercely loyal to the people she cares about. 

Design Notes: -Volt’s pouch is 100% optional, the cloak is recommended to stay but can be taken off, and the shirt stays no matter what. -Clip-on pin is only on the cloak -Kilua’s goggles are usually at least on her head for when she needs them to help her see, but they can be removed if you wish -Kilua’s knife is always implied to be on her, even if it’s not visible

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KILUA (5/14)

“Hey, Hey! Some like it... sweet?!?”

That seems to be the case for Kilua at least, as she is notoriously a bit of a nut for sweets. Volt, knowing that, thought that getting a cake was a pretty simple but effective treat for her birthday. It was, but let’s hope Kilua doesn’t eat too much at once...

If you’re wondering why this post is done in paper and not via digital art, it’s because that i’m in between dealing with art tablet issues right now, so I can’t exactly do anything digital atm. But I also do like celebrating my character’s birthdays, so felt fitting to do this.

Also if you’re wondering how the cake turned out, well...

Oh she frew up...

She tried to eat 3 slices really quickly, and ended up throwing them up not too long after. She loves her sweets, but they don’t always like her... Well tbf, cake is really rich, so maybe it was worse than normal.

She’ll be fine, don’t worry.

Alrighty, new place, (somewhat old) but still current reference sheets. Here are the reference sheets for two glowy eyed rat siblings, Volt Nakano and Kilua Nakano-Parfum

Volt Nakano (or Voltia if you want the full name) is a particularly friendly and inquisitive fellow with a stubborn streak and the tendency to get all scattered brain. They have immensly powerful electrical abilities (among other things) but difficulty managing it has made them much more prone to anxiety than they already were (which before was quite a bit). They are also prone to fairly inconsistent sleeping due to their lighting usage. Kilua Nakano-Parfum is a chaotic and fun-loving little pichu with a violent streak, but is fiercely loyal to her friends and loved ones. Their past as thief has made her a bit cold on the outset, and especially prone to keeping her knife on her at all times, but she can turn out to wear her heart on her sleeves when the chips are down, and she tries to never forget her debts.

The two are foster siblings, with Volt often looking out more for Kilua, but the two often just end up causing some trouble through their antics.

Ok, after messing around with tumblr stuff for a bit, I finally have set up a side blog and some other stuff. I’m still figuring it out though, but i’ll learn as I go along.
