look i know everyone likes to pontificate about how the dodgeball game signals the beginning of the end for killua & gon, but setting that argument aside entirely, let’s just talk about the INSANE payoff of killua’s injury reveal

we’ve established from his introduction that killua’s default posture is that hands in his pockets slouch. it fits his character perfectly — it conveys his exact brand of arrogant nonchalance. that specific pose is such a part of the visual language of this character that in the dodgeball game, the audience doesn’t think anything of him keeping his hands in his pockets the whole time, bc that’s just what he does

until of course it’s revealed that in this instance, he’s doing it to hide how badly injured he is. his posture that initially read as casual and confident is used in this scene to conceal the depths of his self destructive devotion. that payoff was 60+ episodes in the making. the character development of it all!!!!!!!! listen when i watched that scene for the first time i lost my ever loving mind
