Amazon women, sisters and artists! @theinvisibleisreal @lisa_iglesias https://www.lashermanasiglesias.com/ LAS HERMANAS speaks to our identity as woven into histories and philosophies of feminism and collaboration. As the children of Norwegian and Dominican immigrants who grew up in Queens, New York City, our project-based, trans-disciplinary work explores issues of hybridity, social participation and cultural fusion. Our collective has fluidly evolved to include a number of team efforts and variations such as FAMILIEN IGLESIAS, collaborations with our mother, Bodhild. Through employing playful structures that respond to the community and geographical context of each project, Las Hermanas Iglesias create artworks that disrupt borders, engage absurdity, and promote the benefits of working together.  LISA is an Assistant Professor and Director of Graduate Studies at the School of Art + Art History at the University of Florida and mother to a small human. Her work explores expansive histories and potentials of drawing and takes into consideration the translation of patterns, images and gestures across materials. Her work has been supported by NYFA and residencies at the Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center and the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, among others. Most recently, Lisa returned from a year conducting studio research at residencies in the Dominican Republic, Finland and Malta. JANELLE is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor of Sculpture at Carnegie Mellon University and works on site-responsive projects in a variety of contexts. Her work is invested in the metaphors found in objects/materials and their physical language in space.  An alumna of the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture,  her work has been supported by the Joan Mitchell Foundation,  the Pollock-Krasner Foundation and the Jerome Foundation- through which Janelle conducted research on bowerbirds in the rainforests of West Papua.
