Thinking about how skwovet was probably exactly who Arven needed

Arven, who had spent the last however long trying in vain to care for mabosstiff by himself after the pokemon center couldn't provide any help

He did the only thing he knew, he made food that he hoped would make things better

But Mabosstiff doesn't respond

It's always deeply unsettling and scary when your dog refuses to eat or even worse, can't eat

At least inside of the pokeball, Mabosstiff has some form of stability, so he won't leave Arven truly alone

Arven doesn't know what to do if Mabosstiff is gone

He's clutching the ball, trying his best to hold it together, wracking his brain for any semblance of what his next steps could be

Maybe there's something in the stack of books his deadbeat mom left behind?

He made so much food too, a feast, hoping Mabosstiff would take some of it, any of it

It'll all go to waste

Fuck, he's useless. He can't keep anyone. Why would anyone want to be around him? His own parents didn't even want to be around him

The spiral of negative self talk nearly overwhelms him when skwovet skitters up to the picnic table and starts stuffing its cheeks with food

It nearly startled Arven out of his seat, but the intrepid little pokemon still keeps eating, undisturbed by the ruckus it caused

Maybe making all that food wasn't a waste after all

At least it seems like Arven was able to make someone's day a little better

Maybe he isn't useless

And if he isn't useless, maybe there really is something he can do to help Mabosstiff

Maybe this hungry little squirrel is just exactly who Arven needed to show him that his efforts won't be in vain forever and that his talents are still of use

He hasn't done art since the academy and even then he didn't really paint much

But he (while tipsy tbf) does his best to paint a photo he has saved on his phone of mabosstiff

It ends up being the painting of all time like one of those medieval childrens interpretations of what an exotic animal looks like

And like the evening ends and Arven is so proud of this painting

Only to look at it in the morning where he left it at the entrance to his apartment

Also nah I'm not British. I was born and raised in the US but my dad is an Irish immigrant, so we have a few irish-isms that he kept over the years and we use them at home

"Lad" is the biggest one I think? But there are others I'm sure I just don't think of them immediately

While I'm technically an Irish citizen, I don't really consider myself Irish because I didn't grow up there, only visited a few times growing up to get to know family and stuff, and my cousin's friends tore me to shreds when I once claimed as a kid that I was Irish/Irish-American

Saw a post implying a genderbend-esquse relationship between Leon and Iris (which I can absolutely see!) by a creator whom I admire, and I didn't want to potentially hijack their post or add commentary that they don't want, but I need to say

Iris could absolutely be a galarian champion. Like she shows up in galar and kicks ass. She and Raihan have a cool dragon trainer buddy relationship.

She dominates through the wild areas and is incredible.

Leon on the other hand could never. Leon gets off the plane in unova and immediately disappears into the Appalachian mountains only to be found decades later working at a waffle house

I love lee so much, but that man will fly off, shirtless, on his Charizard or dragapult and he'll be gone for good. He didn't even mean to, it just happened.

He befriends the mothman somehow. Finds the sqwonk and loses him.

But he can't even get further west than Appalachia before we Lose Him

Lad actually just said something that sounded like "hi dada!" When my husband was playing with him and prompted him to say dada

So now my husband is happy crying on the sofa while he feeds the lad a bottle it's great
