Asian Americans/non Asians: ATLA is SO NOT progressive. It’s actually racist! Look how they just picked out things from other cultures and religions just for aesthetics! THIS IS NOT CULTURE APPROPRIATION!
Actual Asians: Um we don’t give a fuck? It’s a fictional show so??
Asian Americans/non Asians: Look at Guru Pathik! That was such a racist caricature of Indians! And the Water Tribe names are just made up!
Actual Asians: Literally native Indians have a strong accent wtf r u talking about. And duh? It’s a fictional world? The water tribes are supposed to have an actual culture of their own?? Can nothing be inspired anymore?
Asian Americans/non Asians: *Didn’t even grow up in their actual cultures or bother learning their language yet getting offended*
Actual Asians: *enjoys and appreciates the show because they recognized their cultures and nothing was offensive and it was actually a good show and understands inspirations*
Asian Americans/non Asians: RACIST!!!

Patterns in Given Names in the World of Avatar
Or, Naming Your Avatar OC’s: Beyond Baby Name Lists
Naming an original character in any fantasy setting can be a tricky business. Do you use a real name? Do you make one up? Either way, it has to sound like it fits into the established world - but you don’t want it to sound too similar to the names of canon characters, either. In this post, I will offer an analysis of canon names of major and minor characters in Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, looking for discernible patterns in the names of each of the fictional cultures of that world, and offer some suggestions based on my own experience for how to choose or create names for original characters in that world.
Of course, there’s nothing wrong with using a “baby name list” for inspiration or even taking a real name from one of the cultures the show is based on and using it. But since the fictional cultures of the show are not complete carbon copies of real cultures, just picking a name from a list of Inuit or Japanese names won’t always give you one that actually fits in with the Avatar world. And maybe you’ve seen enough Water Tribe OC’s named Nanook (I’m guilty of this one myself) and want to get a little more creative. In that case, welcome to the advanced OC naming class.
And yes, there will be color coded spreadsheets.

I mean at least he did it with style
I mean… I get that you want to align Roy Mustang with lawful good because he’s a high ranking military officer, but the man literally overthrew the government because he didn’t like it

I just go with Azula philosophy. People annoy you. Burn them to ashes. Someone piss you off. Lightning is always a solution.
Avatar Positivity Post #11
5 valuable life lessons I’ve learned from Avatar:
1) Forgive and forget. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Let your anger go.
2) There are always other solutions to your problems than the obvious.
3) We’re all connected. We’re more similar to each other than we are different.
4) People can change. Give people a chance to show they’ve grown.
5) We are in charge of our own destinies. Take responsibility for your actions.
Bonus:
6) Women/girls are badass muthaf*ckers. Respect women.

I'd like to remind everyone that a giant Lionturtle was the one who offerd a solution. Conclusion: humans are dispecable killers. All of them.

"Trying to silence us with makeup!" Will smith must've been very quiet during Aladin than....
About the Character. What I want is a multy layered interesting character. As long as I can recognise the character I'm good. But those "geniuses" at Netflix wrote a shitty character who doesn't even look or act like the comic book or the cartoon one and if I dare to not like it I'm racist....
I think the funniest thing about the Ariel casting is the oppressed and confuse ginger actors. Making perhaps picket signs saying "Ginger actors matter!" Can you imagine having the perfect look and not qualify for it but a different race does? Only for everyone to make it about racism if you don't support this move?
I'm just saying it's easy to pull that card to validate your claim because you sound like a 'better' person who accepts change but you completely disregard the entire message and that's all I'm seeing on the internet.
"If you don't agree with the casting you're racist."
GTFO.
You can totally disagree and not be racist. You can totally not give a flying fuck and not be racist. Not everything is racism. You bitches make a fuss when a character looks nothing like their role, you make posts about who you'd rather have and blast a shit decision but somehow if they cast a black person, you can't say shit because it's racist?
Don't be fucking hypocrites.

Netflix had similar issue with the Titans show where Starfire suppose to be an orange skinned alien. And they made her black. And while I have absolutly have zero problem with POC but why they can't give us that character. I won't give a flying rat fart who plays the character if the character is an orange skinned alien.

Well they focusing on gender instead of the character. It's not possible to write anything deep and meaningful if the most improtant thing in story is gender.
Why is every piece of media now about “surprise! bet you didn’t see that coming” instead of themes, character arcs, internal logic, and consistency in writing?
It’s okay if your audience (especially hardcore fans) predicts your story. It means that they picked up the clues you put in, understood the themes you were trying to convey, empathised with the characters…
How is that a bad thing?
Instead each piece of media feels like it’s written by a marketing team that is looking at the latest statistics for TRP ratings and box-office collections.
