with love. you have to fact check shit. yes you. you still have to fact check shit. a lot of people are great at fact checking stuff they don’t want to be true, but somehow are still absolute ass at fact checking stuff that’s rhetorically convenient to them. even people my age, who I KNOW grew up doing internet/bibliography literacy workshops, and being warned not to believe anything that isn’t reliably sourced, people who DO harp on fact checking conservative output or whatever, are still kneejerk sharing unsourced shit that is partially or wholly untrue or misleading, because it suits whatever narrative they’re pursuing in that moment, without even a “take this with a grain of salt”. fact check!!!!!! look at the sources!!!!! yes it’s a drag!!! do it!!!!!

I think that mayyybeee we should have tighter restrictions on porn access other than "click yes you're 18 and get access to more hardcore porn in every genre and subgenre imaginable", but we overcorrected and started to act like teenagers aren't horny. Teenagers being horny is basically a force of nature, they are going to (at bare minimum) be curious about uncensored depictions of sex.

While I'm glad that people are more aware of the dangers of being groomed online, we way way overcorrected as a society. Now anyone even one nanosecond under the age of 18 being exposed to so much as a whiff of someone expressing open and non-sanitized sexuality gets treated as grooming. NSFW artists and NSFW fic writers need to plaster "Minors DNI" on everything and periodically go through their followings and block teenagers, otherwise be liable to get accusations of being a groomer. It's ridiculous. It's even weirder when mega-huge porn sites get away with just saying "click here if you're over 18" while amateur NSFW content creators have this huge expectation of responsibility put on them to proactively keep minors from seeing their content.

Like, protecting people from exploitation is good and all but acting like teenagers have the same sexual development as a nine year old is fucking stupid. Both of them being in the broad category of "minor" doesn't change the fact that their bodies are literally biochemically telling them to take interest in that specific subject at that point in their lives. It's a ridiculous delusion, and I swear it's a sign that we're becoming more puritanical about sex. I've even seen people say that we should increase the age of consent to 25 because that many people literally cannot conceive of someone 18-24 years old being able to engage with sex without training wheels on.

This is gunna shock the current pearl clutching online narrative but teenagers are absolutely looking at NSFW content and masturbating and that is COMPLETELY FUCKING NATURAL holy shit stop acting like it’s “”GrOoMiNg”” to acknowledge that teenagers are sexual too they need to have a space to explore that for themselves the actual faux shock horror that some dumbass virtue signalers hum and haw about so melodramatically when they hear about some 10th grader who was “”exposed”” to pornography what the fuck are you idiots talking about

Also: people need to remember that society can and should have certain 100% non-negotiable human rights. When I say a certain right is entitled to every member of a society, unconditionally, I mean unconditionally. Bodily autonomy is one of them. Yes this includes convicted felons, yes this includes convicts whose crimes hold a lot of emotional weight to you. No, you can't dangle some kind of righteous desire to dole out punishment in front of me to change my mind about that.
