Oops!I accidentally deleted one of my week 7 post......
When I was writing reflections and reviewing the design process, I mistakenly deleted this reading record. Sad story. TAT
'what', 'why' and 'how' of prototyping:
Learning to build quick, unfinished drafts of  ideas is an important part of becoming a more effective maker.
Make create prototypes to evaluate their designs, show ideas to other people, and think through problems before it is too late to make changes.
Quick, sloppy, and easy to throw away.
Cheap, disposable, a step in a larger process of making.
Part of generating and teasing ideas with purpose.
prototyping allows people to improve ideas and communicate ideas to other people.

This is our third design prototype, and its concept is relatively clear. The main elements of our project have been reflected in this sketch. But the specific graphic design also needs to be laid out through SketchUp.

Final preparation for submission and Week 12 presentation
I spent two whole days with my team, to organize data, pictures for the report and presentation. To show our project better, I also want to a Sketchup model. The making of the model didn't go well because I wasn't very good at it. LOL! I hope our project can achieve the desired results. 😃

Week 11: Final Consultations
Tumblr media
Our projects and courses are nearing completion. Except for some information about the presentation, there are not many new things. The tutor combed the elements of the report for us in class. Our team report has been sorted out and correspondingly started making and typesetting our presentation. We hope that the typographic style presentation and report are the same.

Week 10: Group Crits
Tumblr media
Our presentation didn’t run very well, because we haven’t do enough preparation. We introduced our project concepts and objectives, but we did not have enough research and statistics to support them. Thanks for our lovely tutor and classmate point out some problem and view for us. These valuable suggestions and feedback can help use improve our project.
Tumblr media
We using “I like, I wish, What if ” to crit other team, which is quite useful. I do the read for this week and I know that is a good way to giving and receiving feedback. I really get it until I tried it. On the future of creative learning and career, I will definitely use it as needed.

What are the key points about giving and receiving feedback in the development of creative concepts and prototypes? (Week 10)
Ways to Solicit Feedback (Testing out several versions of our prototype, useing “I Like, I Wish, What If”)
Test Our Prototypes on the Right People (extreme users, regular users, regions and countries, stakeholders, etc.)
Ask the Right Questions (exactly what is  testing for, keep an open mind)
Be Neutral When Presenting (be as objective as we can, refrain from trying to defend it, find out what exactly is wrong, avoid becoming too attached to your idea)
Adapt While Testing (flexible mindset, improvise during the testing session)
Let the User Contribute Ideas

In week 9 tutorial,
We discussed and analysed some garden facilities. For example, what flowers do we choose? Are they all real flowers? (The possibility of using false flowers was raised in the eighth week)? Does soil need to be considered? Climate issues?
Finally, we listed some feasible solutions, but we still need further research to screen and support.
Team specificity (we come from different countries)
Choosing Flower Capital in Different Countries
Choose local flowers
Recyclable false flowers (sustainability)
Use of General Pure Flower Mud (Save Money)
Selection of flower species by nationality (travel ranking)
Selection of Flower Species Based on Climate (Climate Studies)
......
Finally, we produced a simple storyboard to simulate the project experience of international tourists.

What are the advantages of physical prototyping and what is ‘design fixation’? What does the author say about group work in design? (Week 8)
The advantage of physical prototyping is that designers can design better functional designs(Youmans, 2011). In the process of making the physical model, the producer can observe and think more intuitively.
We can think of "Design fixation" as a limitation of design, for example, when a designer sees a design example, there is a chance that "Design fixation" will be affected. Some people may come up with a preconceived concept because of examples, and they will think that's what I'm going to design. With this idea, it's hard for them to "think outside the box". They only produce something very similar, so "Design fixation" is dangerous and the project will lose its original design.
The author mentions that teamwork has an outstanding advantage without physical prototyping. So we can understand that teamwork is an outstanding contribution to design because it is an integration of ideas. Secondly, we can also recognize the importance of physical prototyping in design, even in Individual design, physical prototyping largely determines the quality of the work.

What are the important prototyping strategies the author has identified and how might you apply these to your projects? (Week 8)
The organisation of culture
Think about of the audience (think from the audiences’ standpoint)
Timing in the development process
Define the purpose
Identify important project-level contextual factors
Keep it simple
‘cobbled up’ prototypes
Proposed initial contextual strategy guidelines
For our current projects, I think we have a relatively complete timeline and purpose. Through many modifications to the design prototype, we also recorded many sides for our audience. But we also need to work on many other things, such as our project be came very complicated. Each member have difference ideas and we need to keep it simple. We need to think about the problem of culture organisation as well.

Week 8: Workshop 3 - Prototyping Tangible Objects
Tumblr media
In week 8 workshop, The tutor showed us many different design prototypes, both physical and virtual. At the same time, the teacher showed me some materials for prototyping.
Tumblr media
The materials used to design prototypes are diverse and interesting. Generally, it can be summed up in two ways. One is to use real materials to present the future texture of the work. Another way is to disseminate concepts. The materials used are more arbitrary and only need to make basic shapes.
Tumblr media
In the workshop, tutor provides some basic, simple materials for us, so that we can try to make our own design prototype which is fun.
Tumblr media
Because of the limited materials, my teammate and I did not produce the design prototype. But we tried to do some fake flowers, I do not know whether they can be used in the project. : P

Importance of collaboration and creating multiple prototypes (Week 7) :
Groupthink (reinforce each other’s belief in the current direction at the expense of other options)
Individuals may be more candid and critical of their own and others’ ideas, resulting in more fluid and effective collaboration.
Focusing on fewer endeavors can help people focus, contemplate, relax, and be more productive.
Improves group interaction, and leads to more effective idea sharing.
sharing multiple designs improves outcome, exploration, sharing, and group rapport.

Week 7: Workshop 2 - Digital Tools for Translating a Creative Idea into a Creative Project
In week 7,We had a preliminary experience of using digital tools (Unity & 3D model art work) to translating creative idea and project from 2D to 3D. Through a half digital, a half material object way to creative interesting interactive projects. As an IVD student, this workshop is quite useful. I hope it can go through more details. 😃

Week 6: Workshop 1 - Field Research and Community Consultation
López (2016, p. 78) states "There is a need for places of being—that is, places primarily determined by our modes of being in them, by how we inhabit them creatively as different cultural groups." From this sentence and article, I realise that it is very important to design from the customer's standpoint. The sense of belonging and identity can resonate with the audience in most works. Therefore, we hope that we can bring foreign tourists a sense of familiarity through the flowers of different countries.
In addition, we hope to open up an area in our garden so that the public can vote online to determine the type of flower display. Let the public better participate in Floden. Extensive and ongoing community participation is critical to the success of a multicultural place (Knapp, 2007).

Week 5: Community Consultation & Engagement in Creative Project Development
Five things being most important in building a high-performing team:
Identifying stakeholders is a primary task
Decomposition and planning of project timelines
Select leaders and assign jobs according to the skills of members
Clarifies the plan and ensures that all members understand it
Keep close communication and information exchange
What is 'systems thinking' and how would you apply it in the context of a creative project and community engagement?
Systems thinking is a broad definition that changes according to the field of application. According to Arnold and Wade (2015), "The use of systems thinking transcends many disciplines, supporting and connecting them in unintuitive but highly impactful ways. " Thus, we can think that systems thinking is beneficial to learning and specializing in various fields. In our project, I think we can use system thinking to see the scattered plan as a whole. This will allow us to better examine the integrity of our plan and make corresponding upgrades.
Key Stakeholders Involved In Our Project:
Our Creative Design Team
Northshore Master Planning Team
Tourists (Native & International)
Nearby Residents
Eat Street
Landscape designers

Week 4 Pitch And Team Organize
In the fourth week, we used our most confident concept to show, and finally ranked by the votes of the whole class. It's very interesting. I didn't expect to use this method to make decisions. Finally, I entered a group similar to my concept. This concept is mainly through the construction of a multicultural restaurant full of flowers, attracting visitors and providing delicious food.

Concept 2 The Plant Maze
Tumblr media
The concept is to build a plant maze out of vast open space in the center of the Northshore. This plant maze will be a landmark landscape that will attract a large number of guest to visit, experience and take photos. Northshore can drive daytime visitor’s flowrate through the plant maze propaganda on the Internet and social media.
First of all, the plan is located in the central area of Northshore, near Eat Street and parking lot, with convenient transportation. According to the ratio of measurements provided by Google Maps, the unused space is about 95m*60m plus some fragmented area. The team is planning to build a green and beautiful plant maze with this promising space to respond to the concepts of sustainability and environmental friendliness.Secondly, the maze will be constructed from a variety of local plants and flowers. People can not only enjoy and play in the beautiful maze but also understand the introduction of these local plants through some introductory signs. It's also an interesting way to spread the knowledge and culture of local plants and flowers. In addition, the most beautiful landscape, plant maze can attract a large number of visitors. The delicate design of the plant labyrinth and the specific photo settings inspire visitors to take pictures and send them to social networks. The team plans to stimulate the network promotion effect of the Northshore brand through the interaction between the plant maze and tourists.
The plant maze was designed for the general public. Children and young people can experience the pleasure of maze and learn some knowledge about plants and flowers. This maze is very suitable for choosing family activities. The labyrinth can also be used as a place for couples and friends to take pictures on the Northshore. Old people can also enjoy the surroundings of flowers in maze seats and have a good time.
This concept can be used as a short-term plan or a long-term plan, depending on its design. In the short term, the foundation of the plant maze can be built of wood and then decorated by placing and wrapping plants and flowers. As a long-term plan, the labyrinth can be completely planted by plants and flowers, of course, which requires a longer period of early investment. This concept also requires a dedicated team responsible for plant and flower management, both short-term and long-term. However, the impact of the plant maze and the flow of people which the maze will bring to Northshore are expected.
In conclusion, the plan is to build a landmark plant labyrinth on the North bank, which designed for the general public. The team plans to use the plant maze to attract more people to Northshore during the day for sightseeing and photography.
