Got a better image of my diagram for my project, Since this sketch i've had to remove the fur so that i had time to finish everything else but i still think it's important to keep in my sketches to make sure the ideas are still conveyed and linked.
The Name as well "Media casting" might be a bit too random in my opinion, or maybe not random enough, but it's based on how Moose when shedding it is referred to as casting and media uses casting to get new talent so i thought it would be a good double meaning for the media and pop culture shedding off old talent in favour of newer actors and talent that can play that role for longer.
Apart from that the other concepts i have in mind for this piece i've already gone over, but i also have a list of materials in order to better realise my vision and make sure it's all still well within my skill level and budget.

These are a more finished look at how my skull will look at the end of the project, at this point it doesn't quite look like a deer and looks more like a Crow or a Raven's skull but once i add teeth and antlers i don't think it'll be too bad.
At this point it's completely wearable and fits my head, I've had an idea to use the questions at the back of the skull in order to emulate the fur it would've had while also looking good and giving it that little extra flair i think it needs to make it not just a deer skull.
I might some how have to add in the idea of being quick into my project because this took me at most 2 hours to do, so from the initial planning to having it wearable and ready to paper mache but at this point i think i might be trying to add too much so that and the tassels idea might have to be retooled or thrown out entirely.
Apart from that i think i nailed the idea i was going for quite well, and in my opinion i think it's better or more interesting having a physical wearable representation of my creative process rather than sonthing like a poseter.

Putting in the brief now because i forgot to at the start, as i've said the idea for this project was based on how a moose and some deer shed their antlers over winter representing how pop culture sheds old ideas and themes for new modern, but ultimately the same, concepts.
But with how this relates to my process is that i developed my art style by taking bits and pieces that i liked from other people and other artists and layered them over mine over and over agin, this is shown in how i draw, using paper i draw by sketching layering another piece of paper over it and drawing over my previous work fixing things i don't like and making it better.
And with the collage work being inspired by Terry gilliam i believe that my work shouldn't be too serious, it can be of corse but i don't think thats a place for my art i'm too serious and don't have the right filters for political art and i don't want to be one of those snobs telling you an empty coke can is so inspiring, i just think my art should be fun and out there and weird.

These are some progress pics that i have of the skull mask i'm creating, while doing this process i need to figure out an interesting way for me to display all 12 of my questions in the piece.
My original idea was to have them hanging off the skull on slips of paper using wax seals to hold them in place like some sort of offering but now i'm not so sure, i think this all links together because my work is very out their and strange in some cases with the directions i take them in so having an equally strange and out there thing to represent that i think is fitting.
Working back wards is how i work so maybe i should flip the words to be written backwards so you need to flip the papers in order to see them, and the collage idea is i have is perfect since my work is built up over time with different bits and pieces taken from all over the place from pop culture to some weird gremlin man posting art online no ones ever heard of.

This is the original sketch that i made of the skull though it's cut off for some reason it still gets across what i was going for originally for my project, with the different styles and ways of utilising the materials i have. '
Also my first idea of making it a wearable mask which i thought would be good to represent how the media we consume shapes who we are, but also how my art is who i am and what i enjoy to the point where all these compounding ideas and themes and artists influence how i see my art, how i make it and how i want it to be interacted with.

Heres a first look on how i'd like the skull to look with the abstract geometric pattern and design of the skull showing the design norms commonly seen today with modern houses and structures, while the antlers remain curved and natural representing the old style of doing things a style that will be shed soon in order to adopt the more geometric structure of the skull.
the entire thing will be covered in collage showing the progression of trends and the recycling of ideas and media, though that would take too long in a illustrator document i decided to do enough to get my point across in order to save time, the collage i want to feel like it's creeping up the skull forcing the older media back in order for the deer to shed it.
I would include decorated furs like a head dress but i don't think i would have time, the fur would represent myths and legends the back bone of every story where each one harkens back to them in some way, like how Marvel uses the Norse gods, God of war retells the greek myths, dragon ball reuses characters from journey to the west and many more!
In my opinion i think this is going to turn out sick with the mix of styles lending them selves nicely to one and other meaning i can blend them nicely, though it will be time consuming to create a mask from scratch i think i can do it.

The next artist i looked at was a strange one at first, but as i looked more into him i found that his style of collage and art aligned quite well with the idea i had for my project, especially with his use of animal imagery in his artworks.
With his torn up edges and splatters of paint i like how he tries to break traditional rules of composition while also making the piece visually interesting with some hand drawn work and edited pictures thrown into the mix, i quite like one of his artworks where he uses a stuffed goat in his work placing his collage on the floor before placing the goat on top of it with an old car tire around it's torso and paint around it's maw which i love for how surreal and out of the blue it is.
This relating back to my idea i love how slapped together and strange it is with the stuffed goat adding another layer of complexity and thought to it, which i believe my art could benefit with and i will try adding to my work through maybe the use of paints and small added details in the piece itself.

Immediately popping out of the screen at me was the art of Terry Gilliam famous comedian, film maker and artist and one of the Main artists for Monty python creating most of their Animations through his use of cut outs and absurd collage's creating a unique style and comedy that i think others are hard pressed to replicate the feel of.
I think his Art would be inspiration for my project to add a bit of levity and comedy into it, also he relates back nicely to my theme of the recycling of ideas in pop culture because i think every tv series (especially comedies) have multiple call back jokes to monty python, like the multitude of references in Simpsons, Futurama and other media like Monster hunter and Iron maiden.
His work with collages and as a important piece of British pop culture means i couldn't help but take inspiration from him for my project, especially since i've been a fan of him for a long time.

In preparation for this i started creating a mood board for pop culture that i believe had recycled elements and ideas in them, especially between generations and time periods.
Like how recently Eminem used a sample from Abracadabra by Steve Miller to create Houdini or how Theo Von and Pete Davidson are This generations Bam Margera And Johnny Knoxville.
Despite these people not knowing each other society and pop culture always has people to fit in and recycle the roles, theres always gonna be a famous conspiracy theorist, there will always be a Song writing prodigy that everyone treats as an outcast and there will always be that one member of a band that does tons better solo than in a group.
It's just how trends work in pop culture because archetypes and roles like that are popular and easy to fill with the next best thing, or the next crazy guy with a microphone. and i want to get across that in my piece of work through the paper mache and collages.

Not wanting to stray too far from the initial idea i decided to create a 3d deer skull mask that could be worn, while using paper mache to layer different pop culture images over it giving the idea of the paper being a living being constantly evolving with old media and art being shed from the antlers like a deer would. symbolising it's disappearance from public consciousness and it's eventural recycling into the ecosystem.
But i wanted the skull to represent current cultural norms and design elements, opting me to try and start thinking about more graphical and geometrical shapes, like a modern house that has no soul or charm thats all boxes and bland colours.

The whole idea of my project started from me randomly seeing this video one day when i was scrolling through youtube, the idea stuck in my head and i later started thinking about how ideas grow and change and how pop culture shifts but stays the same in subtle ways leading me to the core idea of my project.
change. Specifically societal change and how most things when you look at it stay the same but different, like a toy left out in the rain with one side faded from the weather. Like Batman and Sherlock Holmes both the same character but different, both are insane geniuses detectives with a butler and a wide cast of crazed villains but different and shaped by the times they where created.
So through my piece i wanna be able to get this idea across, that all culture recycles the same ideas churning them out into new media for people to enjoy and consume.
