This is so fucking true and so important.
To anyone who hasn’t seen it, watch it, please.
Translation below
Mr. Merz said yesterday that he wants to improve the conditions in healthcare. But to be honest, no politician has ever said otherwise.
Nothing has gotten better.
I’ve seen kids loose their parents, I’ve assisted a mother give birth to her baby in the car in front of the hospital and I’ve seen more dead people through system failure than you can imagine.
I’m from the Emergency room.
I’m not here because I studied politics, but because I know exactly what it feels to work a shift with one other nurse, taking care of 30, 40 or more patients.
When you just have to function, even though everything around you is collapsing.
A lot is written in the coalition contract. But do you know what’s not in there?
A concrete plan on how to truly improve the conditions for EVERYONE that works in a hospital or healthcare.
No minimum personell, no clear no to rates per case, no relief.
This contract is a slap in the face for everybody who keeps this damn system running day for day, while ruining their own health.
Instead of real solutions we get nice words and empty promises, those don’t help me during shifts. During those it matters if there’s enough personell, if somebody can take a break, if you go home after the end of your shift or if you add another hour of overtime and work yourself into burn out.
Miss Minister, this is your responsibility now.
And I’m telling you clearly: All those who continue to ignore the healthcare emergency right now, makes themselves at fault, for everything that goes wrong in our clinics. And also for when colleagues find patients dead.
We are your responsibility.
We need mandatory care, we need patient to nurse ratios, we need public and well financed hospitals. And we need comprehensive tariff agreements and especially for colleagues at hospitals like Charitè, tariff escapes have to be stopped.
Remember, the average age in this parliament is relatively high. That means that everyone, sooner or later, is gonna need this healthcare system.
Oh no… most of you are… sadly insured privately
Thank you

scurvy has got to have one of the biggest disease/treatment coolness gaps of all time. like yeah too much time at sea will afflict you with a curse where your body starts unraveling and old wounds come back to haunt you like vengeful ghosts. unless☝️you eat a lemon

I just remembered my second Pride, where I made different flag themed daisy chain bracelets/necklaces to hand out. I need folks to understand something:
They were free.
They were fucking free.
They were maybe ¢60 of acrylic yarn each at the most, and the whole ziploc bag of them took 2 hours max.
Three people gave me sad eyes until I took their money.
Someone who was clearly the mom friend of their group made me take a $5 and gave a 10 minute pep talk.
At least four more people insisted on getting change to pay for the, once again, free bracelets.
In spite of all these shenanigans, the absolute best was this one person who I can only describe as, “queer surfer dude who looks like a boyfriend who looks like a girlfriend.” I can remember nothing of the outfit, only the impeccable vibes. I did the same thing I did with everyone else, explaining the bracelets were free, and they nodded along as they took the last 6 strand rainbow bracelet. As soon as they had it on their wrist, they pointed at something over my shoulder and, like a fool, I looked.
Next thing I know, they’re running off cackling, yelling, “YOU’LL NEVER CATCH ME!” and I’m holding a fucking $20. I had to stop at least two people from chasing them, cause they thought the person stole something, and then they tried to give me money cause they thought it was funny seeing me flail over people being Too Nice.
That was the year I got reverse-robbed at Pride. I hope everyone out there is having a good time and, in particular, that queer surfer dude is out there still causing benevolent chaos.

I absolutely love and adore the way Nathaniel's redemption arc includes both him fully UNDERSTANDING his faults and the impact of the bad stuff he had done and coming to terms with the fact he has some prise to PAY for it, that brushing it off and saying sorry is not the way or redeeming himself and he has to answer before the CONSEQUENCES of his actions. So many redemption arcs are ending on a simple "he did some shitty stuff and he realised it was shitty, but now he said sorry to everyone and so he's good from now on" these days. But Johnatan Stroud is a bit too brilliant to make it that simple.
In a way, Nathaniel's sacrifice was him answering for all the pain he was a part of, personally or not, not only to Bartimaeus OR Kitty, but the country itself. He doesn't run from it, he is ready to accept it, he knows he wasn't a good person for the biggest part of his life and he absorbs the knowledge of this fact with a kind of bravery that is integral to that part of him that was always good and reached for the better. He's not a monster, he is a person that understands his faults and is ready to redeem himself in perhaps the only way he feels is at least tiny bit comparable to all the bad of the system he encouraged.
And you know what's the saddest part of it? For all the effort he took to answer before the pain he inflicted on Bartimaeus, even the one he never wanted to inflict in the first place, Bartimaeus doesn't want it. It's not that he doesn't want Nathaniel to apologise, no. Yet he doesn't care If his sacrifice is heroic or symbolic or helps him to make himself more of a decent person in his eyes. In the end, Nathaniel is dead and Bartimaeus doesn't want him to be dead, he wants him to be alive here and now, with their flesh and bones interviewed, or be there in it till his final breath. It doesn't change the fact that Nathaniel is too fixated on rightfully paying his part for all he had ever done to him to ever think about going back, and Bartimaeus doesn't care because he doesn't want to end this way anyway and he doesn't care about sacrifices and...in the end, he accepts the sacrifice as not only something more than "sorry" but a part of himself.

i wish i could remember who made the recommendation to "make a list of all the different ways someone could feel about a topic in your fictional setting and then make each of them a character" because it is a great technique and is also extremely fun

Aquarium Zoo 🐟🎏 This illustration was fun to work on. I am going to Japan next week and am so looking forward to it! The last time I went was in 2017. I hope I can get lots of inspiration again! Also, what is your favorite part of this illustration? Mine are the three small fish! :>

Greetings my fellow cockroaches, as some of you may remember, I started a Bartimaeus animatic a year ago and I haven't had the time to work on it so I'm coming back to it only now':) I wanna try finishing it this summer and I want it to be as immersive as possible. So I want to include voice over from an audiobook. Please recommend the versions that you read, both male and female voices would be useful!
Also do let me know where I can get them for free if that's a thing
