Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective Episode 11 – “Drowning in a Dry Room [Part 2]”
…okay, I know I haven’t even begun reviewing this episode yet, but this was certainly an episode. Not going to say anything else until I get into talking about the episode because I think this is an experience that you guys need to see to believe. Or I guess read in this case, since I’m doing a WRITEUP. Lol. The episode begins with Takao and Takanashi meeting up with the police folks and…

Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective Episode 10 – “Drowning in a Dry Room [Part 1]"
Make sure to note down the annoyance of the skip weeks in the forthcoming Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective Anime Spotlight. While they won’t be an issue for people who watch the series outside of the simulcast setup, the annoyance of this as a neurodivergent individual is still worth bringing up in hopes that this same schedule doesn’t repeat for future simulcasts I watch. …oh! I’m sorry, I must not…

Ash Plavell talks about...Dragon Ball GT?! ...oh, and Dragon Ball Daima too!
So, I decided to begin watching Dragon Ball GT. Yeah, I know, this is probably a HUGE shock for you guys, especially considering from my observations based on the first three episodes of GT, Daima is literally just a better version of GT. Then again...I've only seen the first three episodes of GT, and GT has 64 episodes. (More under keep reading. Spoilers for both the first three episodes of Dragon Ball Daima and Dragon Ball GT under read more.)
First of all, if I'm remembering the Dragon Ball lore correctly, Dragon Ball GT shouldn't even be able to happen. Wasn't it established in Z that if the Kami of the world is absent (or merged with their other half with their other half being the one that takes presentation), the dragon balls literally wouldn't work? So how can these random-ass dragon balls with black stars work in GT? (Again, I've only seen the first three episodes, please don't spoil me.)
I am not blaming Toriyama for that. As far as I'm aware, Toriyama didn't have any hand in the story of Dragon Ball GT. Meanwhile, Daima has a legitimate reason to happen: after a wish on the Earth Dragon Balls gets made that turns the Z-Warriors into children, Dende gets kidnapped, and so Goku has to head to the Demon Realm (with help from new character Glorio) to a) get the Demon Realm dragon balls to make a wish and/or b) rescue Dende.
So, yeah, GT shouldn't even be happening, yet it is, and I'm just going to roll with it for my watch through of the series.
But second...I've seen some things (other than Goku becoming a kid, which I already knew about from just hearing about GT) while watching GT that remind me of Daima. Friendly reminder that I saw Daima before GT, so people who watched GT before Daima probably made the same observations I made but instead were like "oh, this is similar to GT!"
In GT's first three episodes, Goku becomes a child due to Emperor Pilaf wishing on dragon balls that technically shouldn't even work. Because of that, Goku gets on a spaceship to head off to begin working on his quest with his traveling companions (Trunks and Pan in this case), and crash lands on another planet, where he and his companions get extorted out of money AND get their spaceship stolen!
Within the first three episodes of Daima, we get introduced to Gomah and how he finds out about what's happening during the fight with Buu. He then goes to Earth and wishes for those involved in the fight to become kids, and after he doesn't get his other two wishes due to them being a gift for regulars, kidnaps Dende to get Goku to jump into action. Joined by Shin and newcomer Glorio (who came from the Demon Realm), they go to the Demon Realm and arrive in the Third Demon World, and safely land. They are seemingly about to be extorted out of money, but Glorio shuts it down before it can occur, and...they get their ship stolen!
And while watching GT, I've felt reminded of places in Daima. In the opening of GT, I saw locations that gave me vibes of the Second and First Demon Worlds, and Imecka (using the English dub name because the Japanese name feels way too risky for me to say in Western culture as someone who isn't a person of color) reminds me of the Third Demon World. Was this intentional by the folks working on Daima? I don't know, and I'm not going to make assumptions.
The biggest difference that I've noticed between GT and Daima is timeline: GT occurs post-final episode of Z, and Daima is between the end of the Buu arc of Z and the beginning of Super.
While just based on the first three episodes of GT I'd recommend people to just jump to Daima instead due to the fact that the basic details of the plots are similar enough, I'd have to watch more episodes of GT to see if my opinion ends up changing. After all, I still have 61 more episodes of GT to go.
Though, note to anyone reading this who decides they want to watch GT: if you CAN, avoid watching GT on Crunchyroll. When I watched episodes 2 and 3, there appeared to be an issue with the subtitles where it'd begin the narrator's ending narration in the subtitles...but wouldn't end it in the subtitles and have them on screen longer than needed...and I think both ended in the middle of a sentence, but don't quote me for 100% certainty on that. It's not a huge issue, but it's still frustrating.
...holy yap, this went on far longer than I anticipated. I guess I'm just that passionate about Dragon Ball.

Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective Episode 9 - "The Night When the Angels Danced [Part 2]"
Okay, I’m going to get a grievance of mine out now, and then leave why I can understand why this decision was made when I get to the point that explains it: we don’t get to see Takao’s mind palace thing where she puts all the pieces together. Also, I don’t know if I’m just blind, but I don’t think we had anything showing the title of the next episode. These are just small things, but there’s (in…

Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective Episode 8 - "The Night When the Angels Danced [Part 1]"
Ummm insert a bible verse here or something, because angels make me think the bible, and the bible is a book. Yeah, no, I shouldn’t be dragging religion into this unless the show does so as well, because last I checked, religious texts hold no bearing in the medical drama known as Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective. And if somehow this ends up being proven wrong next week, then I guess I’ll just crawl…

My Learning with Pibby interest grabbed me and whacked me over the head, and as a result, Axis Nexus was born. I'm still working on it, but I figured that since I mentioned myself in this post, a reblog here was NECESSARY to prove that, yes, this IS me.
Feel free to follow the blog for Axis Nexus. Because my mind has been COOKING regarding this story.
Welcome to Axis Nexus!
This is the blog where I (@ash-plavell) will be posting content relating to an AU that's been cooking in my mind!
Based on the concept of Learning with Pibby by Dodge Greenley, throwing my OCs into the mix, and letting my mind take the wheel to see where this will end up going? Yeah, that's basically Axis Nexus in a nutshell.
However, unlike other Learning with Pibby AUs that I've seen, instead of following Pibby as the main character, we'll be following my OC Sam Aeschtray! Honestly, I think his perspective will be a lot more interesting for this AU.
The blog is still a work in progress, so please forgive me if anything appears weird! I'm trying my best! :]

i have to reblog this because for whatever reason jetpack didn't auto-post this link here [DESPITE THIS AUTOPOSTING TO BLUESKY PERFECTLY FINE].
Thanks, Jetpack. /sarc
In fact, if I had a nickel for every post that was SUPPOSED to be autoposted on both Tumblr and Bluesky that posted on one but not the other this anime season, I'd have TWO nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
Sara's writeup about the seventh episode of the Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective anime is up at the Lesley's Anime and Manga Corner blog.

Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective Episode 6 - "Fierce Blazing Finale"
This mystery is finally concluding! It has been so fun to keep up with this mystery, and the way it has been built up so far has been something rather interesting to watch. But the big question is, did the conclusion feel like it was up to snuff? That’s what we’re going to figure out, right here, right now. Let’s get into it. The episode begins with the daughter of the researcher that died last…

Sara's Anime Spotlight: Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady with the Lamp
Video version: Text version: Doctors. With the two Winter anime seasons that I’ve watched simulcasts during, that seems to be the running theme. Now, I’d like to spin the clock back to the Winter 2024 season, my first Winter anime season where I was watching simulcasts. Yes, the same anime season where I picked up the pile of mid known as Fluffy Paradise. Thankfully, there was another show that…

Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective Episode 5 - "Crimson Curse of the Sorcerer"
I don’t know how to do this pre-review paragraph without spoiling what occurs in the episode. And I think that’s a good thing because it means that the episode was impactful enough to stick around in my mind. Is that for good reasons or bad reasons? Let’s find out. The episode begins with the police investigating the scene of a crime, headed by a character I liked from the first big mystery –…

Sara's Preliminary Opinion: Food for the Soul
*jumps out from a random non-descript box* SURPRISE! That’s right, I’ve got another Preliminary Opinion video! So glad I could get this out before Episode 4 is available to simulcast on Crunchyroll, that way people can’t be all “erm, actually 🤓☝️” to me if it turns out a random guess I made (in character within the video, by the way) was wrong. In case it isn’t clear enough, I love this show so…

Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective Episode 4 - "Spontaneous Human Combustion"
At the time I’m writing this, my mind is scrambled eggs. Let’s ignore the fact that what I just said might not be grammatically correct. After all, if my mind is scrambled eggs, do you think I have the time to go and check and make sure that every single sentence is grammatically correct? Besides, I believe that I still leave some errors in here from time to time, and as they say, to err is to be…
