towards a gentle academic
be up front and honest about the things you do not know
acknowledge the intrinsic value of others’ knowledge bases, even if they do not seem important to you from your institutional context
do not feign mastery where you have none
respect the gaps in others’ knowledge bases
be generous, not only with others
but also with yourself
you overwork yourself at the risk of legitimizing a culture of overwork
privilege voices and perspectives that have historically been left out of the academy
nothing is ever neutral or apolitical
support the progress of other scholars
collaboration over competition

"it's okay, i can peel back the layers of you until i find the soft and gentle core of you you've had to work so hard to hide"? no. no, it's okay, i know you're hollow; i'm here anyway. you don't have to pretend it isn't masks the whole way down. whatever face you want to wear, i still love you. i don't need you to be good or unflinching or the antonym of violence. if i did, i wouldn't be here. i wouldn't ask that of you.

i don’t know how to tell people that deriving pleasure - sexual pleasure included! - from art* is good actually, and that creating specific kind of art “just” because you find it hot or whatever is just as good a reason as any, and you don’t actually need some “deep and meaningful” reason to create art about things. pleasure - sexual pleasure included - is not the devil, it is not Bad and shameful, and it’s not any less valid of a reason to create something than because you want to, idk, explore the depths of the human consciousness or something
* art here includes writing

Update on the eviction prevention
We will be able to pay the extra $1000 to keep the property management from booting us, at least til next month and they start their shit again. We got $145 to help out and the rest is basically going to deplete our next check. We still need to pay utilities and buy food and medicine.
I am still behind on commissions, so it will take me a little while, but I would be happy to do pay-what-you-want art commissions. Just send either contact info or what you want drawn when you send your donation!

"Was your creator also a baker? Because he sure made a cutie-pie!~"
Soris blushed, ears swiveling forward and he coyly hid his face behind his hand. "Oh, Chiasa, that's adorable...!"

You know, an interesting tumblr transformation that's happened gradually, and which I've seen no one talk about: ask-culture has essentially dropped off to nothing.
By which I mean, asks used to be WAY more of the tumblr economy. They used to be more common to send, and receive, and see. They were integral to the collaborative, forum-like behavior of old tumblr communities, not even to speak on the HUGE number of ask-blogs that used to exist to only be interacted with in ask-form.
I'm not saying this in a vying-for-attention way but instead in an observational way: I used to get way way more asks in like 2015, even with a fraction of my follower count. I wonder if it's due to the homogenization of social media sites? There's a lot more of this divide between "content creator" and "consumer" instead of just a bunch of peer blogs who would talk to each other. "Asks" aren't really a thing on twitter, are they? And as I understand it, the closest thing to an "ask" on instagram or tiktok would be a creator screenshotting some comment and responding to it in a new reel or video or whatever those content mediums are. Are asks just too tumblr-specific? Is that aspect of the site culture dying out as more and more people converge to using all their social media sites in the same way?
