“ You've made the same mistake I did: you listened to him, now he will never stop. ” It does give them ideas, however, on ways they could include both Grimm and Junior on one of their chaos sprees. Even more of a new challenge with their change in height. “ You think I'm just going to hand over my skull to you? ” They give a light, playful scoff, “ Do you know how annoying it is to get that thing back on my neck? Not scared of you being able to do, more predicting you'd end up dropping it and chipping my perfectly crafted skull. ” Adding a chip into their bones would be rather impressive, considering how strong their ashen bones are. . .

"He's been yapping at me about everything." Junior shrugs. They haven't really minded the conversation, as once sided as they've tended to keep it. Grimm doesn't seem to mind either, since he's kept talking to them.

"I bet I could." The ashen curse has given them a good amount of strength, and they've gone back to augmenting their bones, now properly, with the kind of enchantments that get fully absorbed into the bone. "I think you're afraid I can carry your skull. C'mon Chi, I'd give it back."

[ 💤 ]ㅤ.ㅤhow do they sleep ? curled up, sprawled, holding onto something ? Ruth sleeps very light, usually on her side slightly curled up. She never got out of the habit of sleeping light to keep an eye on her little sisters. And it's not the most restful but gets her rested enough to function.

[ 💼 ]ㅤ.ㅤwhat do they always carry with them ? Her most detailed and dangerous of blueprints and ideas are all kept close. Of course, written of parchment that is fireproof then hidden within a special pocket on the inside of her dress. Can't have another secret getting stolen and given to the stupid fleshie pirates.

[ 💢 ]ㅤ.ㅤwho have they never forgiven and never will ? Will never forgive her sister Terra. All the years she helped raise her two little sisters, did everything she could for the three of them to escape being forced into work by the Union, Ruth did it all for Terra and Sammy. And then, Terra got cowardly, turned against her big sister and in turn got Sammy killed. Ruth can never forgive that, even now that both her sisters are "gone"

[ 🐾 ]ㅤ.ㅤdo animals like them instinctively ? Oh yeah. Despite being a towering skeleton of raging fire and one who experiments on people, animals are interestingly drawn to her. Ruth does not do any animal experimentation beyond seeing which treats they like the most. She's got a whole slew of animals she keeps around from little lab mice and rats, to pigs and owls. A whole bundle of kitties that she ended up caring for, a couple of puppers that visit.

[ 🌪️ ]ㅤ.ㅤwhat’s the one choice they regret (not) making ? There are some days she regrets what caused the rift between her and her sisters. Maybe if she had not been so ambitious with her experiments, maybe if she would have taken it slower Terra wouldn't have gotten so paranoid, maybe then Sammy would have stayed alive. Maybe the two of them could have joined her, or at least Sammy. But because she let her ambition and desire to be known take over, she lost both of them. She doesn't fully regret it, but that's the closes thing she has.

[ 🍻 ]ㅤ.ㅤwhat kind of drunk are they ? Ruth can be. . . either a very silly and giggly drunk or an absolute nightmare. It just depends on if it's after a long session of work or been on a voyage. Although, usually drinking with the crew, she's going to get silly and flirty, but it can quickly turn if somebody else tries to join on in. Only the fellow Lords, Flameheart, and a select few get the silly side.

[ 🌀 ]ㅤ.ㅤdo they have a recurring dream or nightmare ? Ruth doesn't dream much anymore as a skellie, but before losing the need to sleep she had one that popped up from time to time. Being left alone at Marauder's Arch for what feels like forever, rotting bodies around her, the haunting voice of her youngest sister asking her why, why did she let her die? Always haunted by the voice and the bodies getting up and moving towards her until being consumed in burning fire. Towards the end, it stops bothering her.

[ ⚓ ]ㅤ.ㅤwhat does “home” mean to them ? Just being around the other Lords is her meaning of home. She may be one of the few to actually say that home isn't a place but more of the people one spends their time around. She could indeed considering the Stronghold or the Ashen Dragon as home, but doesn't feel right to her to call a physical place "home"

↪ Headcanon Questions

[ 🖐️ ]ㅤ.ㅤwhat do their hands feel like: soft, calloused, trembling ? As a fleshie, Duchess had very steady hands, relatively soft but very often sprinkled with soot and gunpowder. And well. . . can't quite say her bones are soft but she still has extremely steady hands. Not a single twitch has been seen from her.

[ 🎐 ]ㅤ.ㅤdo they have a sound, like a song or voice, that they associate with peace ? Silence. Absolute fucking silence. Just let her burry herself in the sand for a nice long nap without any chittering skeletons or annoying ranting pirates, and that is peace.

[ ⛓️ ]ㅤ.ㅤwhat does guilt feel like to them ? Hard to say. Duchess isn't somebody who has really ever felt major guilt. The only time she felt something close was leaving behind Grimm. It felt like something was slowly chomping away at her, taking small pieces here and there but always leaving little marks on her but even that didn't affect her much. She had the reassurance that she would see her baby brother again.

[ 🩸 ]ㅤ.ㅤis there something or someone that, if lost, would break them ? She is very solitary and doesn't make bonds very easily, it would upset her to actually lose Flameheart or Junior, but would not completely break her. Grimm's death did cause some issues for her, but it mostly caused her to completely close herself off. Although, to be fair the loss of her unborn child did cause everything to crumble for her, so guess that counts?

[ 🌊 ]ㅤ.ㅤwhen was the last time they cried ? As above, when she lost Solana. That was the very last time she cried.

[ 🪶 ]ㅤ.ㅤhow do they laugh ? Astonishingly, Duchess has a very bright laugh. It is very light but does get the growl most skellies have once she gets the curse. If she really gets going there will be some wheezes even as skeleton.

[ 📜 ]ㅤ.ㅤis there a story they love sharing with others ? Only one she really shares is the fight the original Burning Blade crew had with a kraken. Quite the fight and lots of pride in it, considering the crew was able to get the bones and ink so she could improve her magic.

[ 🧩 ]ㅤ.ㅤwhat’s a truth about themselves they refuse to admit ? That she misses what she had at one time ; misses the original crew ( minus Duke, he can rot away slowly and painfully ), having a crew that knew what they were doing and never failed.

[ 🎱 ]ㅤ.ㅤwhat kind of future do they crave, and who’s in it ? Truthfully, Duchess doesn't really look towards the future. At the moment she just goes with the flow, keeps herself protected. As long as she and Grimm are fine -- and Junior perhaps -- she doesn't care what happens around her. Would rather not have to continue with Ramsey's bullshit tho.

[ 💤 ]ㅤ.ㅤhow do they sleep ? curled up, sprawled, holding onto something ? Chi is one of those that can sleep in any position, including ones that look completely uncomfortable. So, they slept in a whole variety of positions, but if on an actual bed it was mostly curled up, take as little space as possible and keep warm. Not so much of a thing when they are a skellie. They'll "fall asleep" standing up.

[ 🦇 ]ㅤ.ㅤwhat is a fear they never talk about ? They uh. . . really don't talk about any of their fears. Any fear they have is stuffed down and ignored. Only one they have even hinted at is the fear of losing the other Lords. The ones they do not verbally speak of is the fear of not being good enough ( which is why they are constantly trying to outpace everyone and get stronger ), disappointing Flameheart, and harming the only ones they care for.

[ 🔒 ]ㅤ.ㅤwhat is a secret they’ve sworn never to tell ? That they were assigned by Flameheart to find all the weaknesses of the other Lords. They also took it as well to study the weaknesses of Flameheart and Junior. Chi could easily exploit the others with knowing such things, but they don't -- they use the knowledge to either counter it themself // see how the others could counter it, or find subtle ways to train the weakness out of the others without making too much of a scene or fuss about it.

[ 🫳 ]ㅤ.ㅤwho do they feel they owe, but never paid back ? Partially, they do feel they owed the old captain they worked alongside when they were a merchant auditor. The man was one of the few that taught them things, turned a blind eye on their under-the-table deals. Not like they can repay him nowadays, considering his soul is being used to fuel their curse.

[ 💼 ]ㅤ.ㅤwhat do they always carry with them ? Only thing the keep on their body at all times is a concealed dagger. The accessory they have in their hair? Yeah, that's a very thin dagger. It's not used as a weapon anymore but is very important considering it can be used to locate their Chest of Rage. Nobody is allowed to touch it.

[ 📿 ]ㅤ.ㅤwhat superstition or ritual do they cling to ? Surprisingly, Chi does still hold some of the superstititions // rituals from their home. The number 4 is very often avoided by them due to the bad omens it brings from both sides of their heritage, they absolutely hate it when people point at them with a single finger ( yes yes, I know in game they do it but >:c my skeleton, my headcanons ) and will only point with one finger if they want to be rude to the other person, otherwise they will point with a fully open hand. They will say "May you dream of many pigs" when parting ways with somebody they are close with, since dreaming of pigs is seen a sign of good fortune. They will not cut noodles due to it being said to cut one's lifespan even when they are an immortal skeleton, and will get very unhappy if somebody gives them a pear since on their father's side pear sounds similar to separate so it is avoided. And despite being away from their home, Chi does still celebrate the Lunar New Year with cleaning, creating meals, giving gifts of money, and having fireworks -- they have started to rope others into this tradition and will be very insulted if the others do not participate.

[ 🪶 ]ㅤ.ㅤhow do they laugh ? Oh. . . their laugh. They've got their mostly heard serious and terrifying laugh that makes the skin of pirate's crawl -- low, menacing, cruelly amused, rises in volume the more excited // happy they are. But there's also the laugh they have when they are not as serious and around those they are close with. If it slips out, they will get huffy since they hate it especially if there is a small snort added in it. Which is exactly this:

[ 🌒 ]ㅤ.ㅤdo they have a dream or goal they have given up on ? They did at one time have the goal of taking over the family restaurant back in Korea, but that one was pretty well killed alongside their parents. Their grandmother had passed away by that point, and their aunt couldn't afford to keep the place going so they had to close it up. Worked out for the better in their opinion, since they are much happier as a towering inferno of a skeleton pirate

[ 🕯️ ]ㅤ.ㅤwhat memory do they replay when they’re alone ? The night they became a pirate. The thrill of fighting Grimm, looking up at Flameheart as their shoulder bled, finally having the chance to show their true colors, all the way to fighting their way to get to Flameheart's throne room to show they were worth the time to train.
