It’s so fucked up how tiktok culture has made clout-poisoned people turn the public into content, every day I see people minding their business have their entire faces put online for thousands of likes, a couple kissing on the train, a lady dancing across a cross walk, a guy nodding his head to the music at a club, a lady buying a banana at the store, ring camera footage of the neighbors kids being stupid. Just let people live jfc

ah yes. I'm enjoying the show but disliking the changes to Rathi as it goes on. In an earlier episode when they called him macho, that stuck out to me because my impression of the books is that Preservation isn't bogged down with classic sexism TM. Honestly even the corporate rim, everyone has an equal chance of being awful
So then with these little things they are adding to his character like the barely giving a massage and then sitting down for one, it's a very different caricature than I was anticipating and not in a fun way
okay thoughts for episode 6 can be summarised as: THERE IT IS. THE SCI FI COMEDY TO SCI FI DARK COMEDY TONAL SHIFT.
Love a return to classic sci fi story telling
spoiler ridden thoughts under the cut so dont look until AFTER you've seen the episode they air so much better going in blind
PS of all episodes this is the WORST ONE to watch in your work office, do NOT recommend oh my god
My wish as 11am before it even aired was: "Sending vibes to Leebeebee. idk what vibes but sending them, girl be ur cringiest i want to CRINGE when i watch this" and past-me was SO DEAD ON I LOVE LEEBEEBEE what an amazing character.
That moment when she kissed Bharadwaj's hand?? I had to pause the show so I could laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh. And then to follow up with stealing Bharadwaj's trauma about creatures attacking them later on to garner sympathy and it working so well?? She stole Bharadwaj's tragic backstory??? Fucking icon. She makes me want to crawl out of my skin. LOVE THAT.
I noted that shaped like a gun held like a gun but Bharadwaj still couldn't quickly comprehend it as a gun (did she take gun training?). My conspiracy is BECAUSE IT DOESNT HAVE HAZARD SYMBOLS!!!! Label your weapons!!
I had the exact same reaction as Mensah at "you've only cut the first layer" but for different reasons. That was totally at least TWO layers. Unless SecUnit is lumping epidermis and dermis together which I can accept since after the combined skin layer is the inorganic plastic (?) chainmail layer.
Fully appreciate cracking open the spine like a lobster to get to the inner neural cord things.
OBJECT GREATLY that Gurathin does not have more of a reaction to his KNEE BEING SHOT. THAT IS SO PAINFUL. Will he even walk properly ever again? Maybe? MedSys?? But goddamn that is an AWFUL spot to have shattered bones he should be screaming a lot more I am taking realistic issue with this. Source: repeated crippling knee injuries are traumatic as fuck. He had more of a reaction to Leebeebee being shot!
Did feel bad for him when he was told his friend was murdered and kind of collapsed inwards. Like gotta be honest Gurathin is one of my least favourite characters but damned if I don't love all his scenes. It's an interesting feeling to be having.
I adore incredibly efficient murder machine SecUnit just enter, warn, shoot before anyone can react. I missed the efficient murder machine of the earlier books. I feel like people saying SecUnit would never do that forget how quick to murder it was in the first books? Even with humans? Like it has a quick and merciless body trail, early book SecUnit absolutely would nip that shit in the bud.
All the different trauma reactions! We have moved into realistic trauma reactions! Absolutely amazing I had to pause and laugh and laugh over Pin-Lee's reaction. Also I'm starting a vomit bingo tally. I think Mensah was able to cope best because, well, she's still riding the surgery high and she didn't witness the head implosion just the aftermath.
SecUnit trying to analyse everyone's reactions to the instant-explosion and how uncertain it sounded, then it analysing everyone else's trauma reactions and what it thinks they're thinking but then ending on the thoughtful "it felt good" (to explode Leebeebee's head) and I'm really looking forward to seeing how this goes. Because it DIDNT explore ITS feelings about the team reactions, just its feelings about the explosion. And not WHY it felt good.
I also hope Bharadwaj comes back around to SecUnit, I liked seeing it be her number one fan so far and I can see why she's the most shaken now.
I ended the episode feeling very stressed and bummed out and anxious for the PresAux team and SecUnit and their relationships. A+ ending in invoking many emotions. LOVEHATE that I have to wait a week with these emotions until it can be resolved.
Small appreciations:
Just loved how the show started out lighthearted comedy to build us up for this emotional crash. I felt like you could see it coming from the very first episode but it is still very satisfying when it happens.
I really like the staticy-scratchy way SecUnit squeaks out "Don't Touch!" any time Mensah wants to look closely at a wound.
"Time to cut" had the same kind of scratchy-staticy voice. I'm taking this strangled tone as SecUnit's "I don't want you touching me" voice.
Arada's deep cut that Leebeebee is an awful name actually then Leebeebee's dreamy voice going ~"it's a beautiful name"
Gushing fluids and spinal surgery and port attachments!
The potential for cloned neural tissue in transports, not because of the potential ART reference, but because of how solemn and shocked and confronted it made Mensah. The horror of a living ship but then does adding SecUnit's neural tissue to the hopper make it living? No, it is just neural tissue.
That Bharadwaj was going to talk to Gurathin about compassion and it was implied it's a repeat discussion. Why do all the best potential conversations get cut off? First the Mensah-SecUnit violence against clients discussion and now this. UNRESOLVED CONVERSATIONS
I liked that Mensah and SecUnit were at odds at the start of the episode, no more kid gloves full team-member gloves and treatment. The way she scolded it and it scolded itself-Ratthi style over it. HUGE potential for how she (or someone else. Bharadwaj?) talks to it about instant-murdering a human. But on otherhand, save that for the Exit Strategy parallel season please it's got more humans to murder.
Leebeebee was such a great source of confused conflict for everyone i will miss her, but her memory lives on (in their shared trauma)
My first notable issue with the tv show:
This is the first time when ratthi pin-lee arada trio scene where i got a little annoyed like they're edging towards talking about their relationship and stepping on each others toes but not quite there and at first i was enjoying it but now i'd like SOMETHING to start being resolved. too many unresolved things floating around. and Ratthi straight up acknowledged he's feeling like he's interrupting them (when they invited him in) but then the conversation ended and while the massage scene was very cute I wish they talked about their relationship during that process and not SecUnit.

#my honest first reaction was just 'huh'#my cats on my lock screen. she thinks I'm great and would boost my confidence#she doesn't put up with bullshit and haters and would encourage me to do the same#she's great at boundaries#but being that therapy isn't paying someone to tell you you're awesome fuck everyone else I'm torn#confidence boost - yes. actually calling me on my shit or working through trauma - have to go with probably not
