Tips for Improving Your Public Speaking
Tumblr media
Public speaking is an essential skill that sets you apart and facilitates easy delivery of the point you are trying to pass across. But, of course, it can be difficult, as it requires trust and confidence in the audience. Having the ability to speak publicly can contribute to a successful run throughout your college experience and career. It also prepares you for leadership roles that may arise. Other aspects of your life that this skill influences are your interpersonal communication skills, writing, and organization skills. Research on personality and individual differences in 2016 has proven the fear of public speaking to be among the most common forms of anxiety. It also indicated that one out of five people experiences this kind of anxiety. Further, many confident people speaking today started with a rational fear of public speaking. However, getting rid of this fear coupled with the right amount of practice can assist you in getting many advantages in life. Delivering a speech requires good breathing techniques because speaking without proper breath control can invite an anxiety attack. The nervousness that leads to poor breath control also features sweating and an increased heart rate. To avoid going through all these, take a few minutes to breathe properly with your eyes closed. Doing this can help put your body in a peaceful state and out of delirium. When you are afraid to speak publicly, it is easier for your body to switch to a tense state. Most good public speakers have proper body posture, a better relationship with the audience, and better composure during their speech delivery. An improved body language helps with captivating your audience and improving your performance. You should also avoid actions such as arm crossing and keep your hands out of your pockets. Keep your arms beside you instead, and only pass your point across with meaningful hand gestures. In addition, your attention should be focused on the audience, and you should try not to stare at the ground or into your notes for extended periods. Much similar to the segregation of an article into different paragraphs, you should ensure to implement pauses during your speech. Doing this allows your audience the time to rest and enable the information you have passed across to sink in. In addition, giving a pause before your next point also provides the speech with a natural flow and makes it feel more like a conversation. It would also be wise to have breaks when delivering points that you plan to emphasize, so your audience has more time to reflect on them. Employing humor as a tool can also be good practice because it showcases that you have a personality while putting your audience at ease. But, of course, you must consider the appropriate situation before using humor. For example, the use of humor is permitted at a more casual gathering but could be frowned upon in a corporate setting. Finally, it is crucial to observe your audience and adapt to the feedback. Make sure to ascertain the reactions of your audience and adjust while delivering your message. Also, be sure to stay flexible, keeping in mind that you can confuse or even lose the interest of devoted listeners with a canned speech.

How MRI Scans Work and What They Can Detect
Tumblr media
The recipient of a medical degree from the University of Virginia, Ashwin Nambiar graduated from the school in 2008 and has since worked as a radiologist at AMN Staffcare and a Veteran's Administration hospital in Menlo Park, California. At the VA hospital, Dr. Ashwin Nambiar analyzed ultrasound, CT, and MRI scans. MRI, which stands for magnetic resonance imaging, is a scan that generates images of the body's soft tissues using a computer, as well as radio waves and a magnetic field. These tests are often used by doctors to determine how a patient has responded to treatment or to help diagnose disc herniation, strokes, or tumors. An MRI of a person's brain and spinal cord, for instance, can detect a brain injury, blood vessel damage, Multiple Sclerosis, or even eye problems. MRIs can also be used to check the health of vital organs. There are millions of magnetic hydrogen atoms in the human body, and these are disrupted when the body is placed in a magnetic field. A sensor then detects the time it takes for the atoms to return to their prior position. Any abnormalities in the water content of different tissues is highlighted in the black and white image processed by the computer.
