Aaron Lynch getting a chance to cover Admetus. You might think the most important part of that track is the pas de deux with Victoria, or maybe the Macavity fight, but no: it’s actually Caring For Carbuckety during the curtain call.
Asia tour, 31 January 2021. Jal Joshua Lebumfacil is Carbuckety.
More generally, however: Aaron is apparently a very funny actor, and doesn’t get much of a chance to play around as Coricopat. So a couple of different reports from regular attendees did comment on him having a lot of fun as Admetus! One said “he escaped from the expressionless Cori and acts like a pony. He laughed so brightly and the motion grew very much!” He was especially funny with his gesticulations and facial expressions in the pyramid choir.
He is also, apparently, a very gentle Admetus. He was cute and attentive to Gus. One person mentioned that he doesn’t lift Tyler (Victoria) the same way that Thomas Inge does: he seems less confident, more worried about hurting her, and so takes more of her weight on his shoulders instead of his hands.
And two people mentioned that he didn’t throw the ball hard enough during Tugger’s song, being worried that it would go into the audience - he almost rolled it, so that Dan Partridge had to pick it up to kick it!
Sadly, he did not do the toe taps. The moment in the first gif when Jal flings himself sideways is him reacting to the musical cue with Carbuckety-appropriate wiggles; but he does them alone!
Well done! Perhaps we can think up a synchronised routine to perform for next year’s Ball.
Hayden Baum covering Admetus and Kade Hughes covering Bill Bailey, 2020 Asia tour 7 Feb 2021.
This is the first time these two have been covering these roles for the same performance - so it’s the first time they’ve had a chance to be cute on this side of the stage during the finale sequence, instead of on the other side as Skimble and Tumble!

Five Times Admetus Had To Tap His Toe All Alone - And One Time He Didn’t!
(okay, two, because they did it again after I drafted this post)
Thomas Inge has a habit of marking those few beats before the Skiiiimbleshanks the raaaaailway cat refrain of the curtain call orchestration by tapping his fingers or bobbing his head, or, more usually, by marking out the beats with one foot like here. But usually he does it alone: Jal Joshua as Carbuckety is usually crouched by his feet, and doesn’t join in (though he sometimes bobs his head along to the melody line).
But when Taylor Scanlan is understudying Carbuckety, he sometimes stands up instead - and on 24/11/2020, when he saw Thomas posing his foot, there was a moment of silent communication and then he decided to join in. And Thomas beamed!
(And on the matinee the next day they did it again and looked very happy about it.)

I never noticed until recently that in the 1998 Cats film during the Pekes and Pollicles number, when the guys start marching in a weird line, Plato somehow wasn’t paying attention and wound up marching passionately by himself in all sorts of different directions....I was snickering when Alonzo noticed the wayward tomcat going the wrong way and, without missing a beat of the March or singing the song, proceeded to dope-slap Plato to get him back in line. 😆😆
YES! I love that moment. Silly Plato going the wrong way 😆
Admetus lowered his head, not daring to accept the praise. “But...you don’t understand,” he groaned. “It’s my fault they were even gone in the first place! I—I threw Tumble the other day and he hurt his leg and...and he was so upset over it, not so much because it hurt as because it made him look weak in front of Hestia. He’d barely even let us help him, he kept trying to make like it was no big deal because he was embarrassed. And that’s why he took her on this whole adventure to begin with, to prove himself or something. And they could have been hurt. And Alonzo was hurt.” He looked everywhere but at Munkustrap, waiting for the praise to change to disappointment.

Munkustrap clambered awkwardly down into the depths of the tyre and fished Pouncival out, dragging him by the scruff of the neck. Pouncival yawned and twisted around to latch onto his face with both forelegs, until Munkustrap bopped him on the nose. “You’re getting too big for this,” he said, and hoisted him bodily up and out of the tyre.

Fun Fact
When “GIF” was named word of the year in 2012, Oxford Dictionaries U.S.A. credited Tumblr for pushing the word.
