;; hello!! i'm going to be answering this ask first bc it's just a general headcanon sorta thing so if you're reading this. i promise that i'm finishing the drawings for asks, please don't maul me <33 life got SUDDENLY busy when i started this blog smhh... but yeahm!

;; okay since i have mad dysphoria i usually write trans characters with mad dysphoria on impulse bc. yeah. so norton DID have p bad dysphoria. at first his clothes were generally baggy to hide his body, but he eventually learned that wrapping his chest down with elastic cloth and packing with a sock was convincing enough to pass off as male. his naturally masculine face was of good help, and his voice was rough enough to avoid anyone questioning him.

;; you prolly read what i wrote above and went “woah WOAH that is not safe binding.” yeah, no, absolutely not, but norton didn't really understand that. he did, unfortunately, practice unsafe binding for a good while. that + the dirty and stuffy enviroment in mining = he absolutely went to the hospital due to complications with breathing. wound up with some minorly fractured ribs and he had to take a good break from his job, which deeply devistated him. when he was confronted by the owner of the mine he'd been working on, he begrudgingly was forced to explain his situation. yeah, he lied about being a cis man for his job. yeah, he was trans. “go ahead and fire me if you're going to,” he said, his pride keeping him from spilling out in tears.

;; to his surprise... instead of being particularly disgusted and firing him on the spot, his employer instead struck a deal: to spend two years working for his mines in exchange for top surgery so he could work without complications. norton couldn't believe it, and without a second thought, he accepted the offer. however, the only hospital nearby with trans specialists wouldn't perform the surgery without a month of testosterone therapy prior to the procedure. and score, norton got himself testosterone AND a top surgery scheduled. howeverrr, this testosterone treatment would only be temporarily covered by his employer, and it added another half of a year onto his little deal.

;; so yeah norton transitioned! he wound up scraping up enough cash for testosterone on his own in the future, though this meant he'd have less money for other necessities. he, with some help from co-workers, managed.

;; i hc that he also has a phalloplasty surgery. how? idk, probably in a situation similar to his top surg. listen i don't have all the details, i just want my man to have all the surgeries i won't be able to have for a long time :[[..

;; okay so post-mine-accident he becomes intensely defensive of his masculinity and even becomes lowkey toxically masculine. he feels the need to shell away sensitivity [though he can become enraged to the point of tears more often than he'd like], avoids any form of femininity, and has an awkward [and at times lowkey offensive bc he wants to be a big strong man that girls can rely on] time socializing with women due to his trans history and troubled outlook. he's trying to work on getting over it though, and it's rough. :[
