Tell us about a time that you had to teach Jane about something you didn't expect to have to teach?

Oh lord, where do I even begin? 

I love the kid, I really do. But as someone with her... abilities, you’d think that she’d pick up on things a little quicker. I mean, I gotta cut her some slack because she doesn’t know any better, but still.

Tying her shoes. I swear that was probably one of the most dramatic meltdowns I've ever encountered. She got so frustrated because no matter how many times she tried, she just couldn’t do it with her hands. With her powers, she could do it easily, but I knew that she needed to learn how to do it with her hands so that if her shoe came untied in public, she wouldn’t cause a spectacle.

We tried every single way in the book try to teach her, nothin’ could do it. Finally, after some long nights and a lot of frustration, I promised her that if she was able to tie them up, we’d make Eggo supremes. Whaddya know, she ties her shoes like she was born for the job.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be too surprised if she had concocted this whole plan just to get Eggos out of it.

How did you handle Eleanor Gillespie's owl problem?

You might not be able to tell, but your question has me laughing pretty hard right now. 

It was pretty difficult, especially because poor Eleanor couldn’t calm herself down (fear of birds, I guess). We coaxed it away off of her head with some food and it left eventually. 

Pretty sure Callahan peed his pants laughing when we pulled up to respond to the call.

What is your favorite memory with E-- JANE so far?

Well, we certainly have made a lot of memories in our short time together so far. But my favorite? It’s kind of two memories in one.

‘Bout early March, Joyce and I thought it would be a good idea to start working on some sort of birthday party for her. Becky had mentioned that she was born in early April. Joyce and I were debating on doing it up really big, you know, all the works. Bounce house, cotton candy, all of it. I guess since it was her first real birthday that we oughta do something special.

We asked Jane what she wanted to do, and since she didn’t really have much of an idea about what a birthday really is. Didn’t really know what the possibilities were. But her favorite thing to do is to make homemade waffles for breakfast sometimes. Joyce has one of them fancy waffle irons and Jane is obsessed with it. 

So, that was all she wanted to do for her birthday. Just a morning at the Byers’ house and eating waffles for breakfast. That was the most enjoyable thing that her mind could come up with. That memory in itself is one of my favorites with her because it was a real scene of domesticity that she could enjoy. 

But, before her actual birthday, Joyce convinced me that we should still do a party. It was going to be a huge surprise for her and believe me, it was exhausting to plan. Lemme tell you though, totally worth it when I saw her face light up. All of her friends piled into the backyard with a bounce house and cupcakes and tons of fun decorations and presents. All for her. 

Seeing her face and the hug she gave me when we surprised her, that’s the second part of my favorite memory with her so far. I know I sound corny, but it was one of them rare ‘dad moments’ that really stick with you.

Joyce this is so random and I know you don't know who this is but I think I have a crush on you. I feel so stupid saying this because I know nothing can happen between us, you'd never go with a guy like me. Anyway yeah. Stay safe and look after your family. God bless. Thank you for your kind words. I know that a crush should always be taken seriously, no matter how silly it may feel. So I know that’s a compliment from you, whoever you are. Even though  I can’t help but wonder why. Stranger things have happened though, and like Bob used to say, never stop enjoying something just because you can’t understand it. He always acted like he was the luckiest person ever when we were dating, even though I felt like the lucky one.

Stay safe yourself, and Will, who is sitting here with me while I type, says to tell you that telling someone about your crush is very brave, and that you’re brave to have said something. Also that he hopes you know that if the chief heard you talking -

There's rumors going around that Will is really your son. How do you feel about this?

I mean...Will? I hate to say it but the kid is practically Lonnie’s twin. Not to mention I wasn’t even living in Indiana during the time Joyce got pregnant with him. 

On the other hand, I’d understand if people thought Jonathan was my kid. He isn’t, but he looks more like me than Will does. 

I try to protect ‘em both like they’re my own kids, but Will is definitely not my son. I’d love to hear what Joyce has to say about those rumors.

What's one thing you wish you could do to/with Joyce but haven't yet?

Ah, that’s a good question. It’s hard to answer because there is so much we have yet to do. I mean, most of the time we spend together is when it feels like doomsday is approaching. I guess I’d really like for her to see New York with me. Something fun and vacation-like that doesn’t revolve around anything stressful.
