Eniola was starting to pick up that something was hindering the other’s vision. Maybe it was the darkness? Her natural ability to see in the dark may have made her overestimate how well others could see. She sighed and shook her head,“There’s a tree there, in case you can’t notice. There’s also rocks so be careful where you’re stepping.”
”Are you asking me if I would believe you saying yes to not being from around here? Yes. I don’t think you’re from the Isle. So. Why are you here and who are you trying to get to? I don’t know everyone but if it gets you where you need to go I can attempt to help.”
Reaching out a hand, the rouch, lined texture she felt scratch her palm did confirm that there was, in fact, a tree there. “Huh, didn’t know trees could grow here. Guess you learn something new every day.”
Taking a very slow, very cautious step to the left, gave Effie a sense of relief as she didn’t walk into anything else. With another slower-than-probably-necessary action, she turned to face where she believed the voice was coming from, although she could be completely wrong. Wouldn’t be the first time.
“Damn, thought I had you going there for a second. Oh well.” She did not, but hopefully sarcasm was a thing here too. “Nobody in particular. Just exploring, really. I’m guessing you live here, though.”

Lakhi had no idea who this girl was, though the way she blankly stared at the canvas and had little concept of artistry told her that this was the wrong person to be mingling with. Still, Lakhi was a good host, and being a nice to everyone emeant the people who mattered would see her being nice.
“You’re so welcome, I am such a Pollock fan,” Lakhi had only just learned who Pollock was, but no one needed to know that, “My name’s Lakhi Kaur, I organized the whole pride event,” She extended her hand to be shook.
Tumblr media
“Pollock, huh?” She couldn’t help but smirk. Figures her work would look like Pollock’s, if what she’d heard was anything to go by. This should be an interesting train to ride. “Yeah, I’ve heard good things about his work. Never seen any of it, though. Have you?”
Not noticing the hand, for obvious reasons, Effie merely kept flicking paint onto her canvas, half hoping some of it would accidentally hit something mildly important. “Effie Mode. But you probably knew that,” she definitely did not know that, but it would be fun to wind her up about it.

OS: Food Fight
Eating had never been a particular problem for Effie. Even if she couldn’t exactly see what she was putting in her mouth, it at least felt distinctly different to the table, plate or cutlery. Different enough for her to instinctually know not to get them confused, anyway.
The same logic seemingly didn’t apply to food and projectiles, though, something she thought only happened in movies that were desperately trying to relate to the current youth while obviously knowing nothing about them. But she was proven wrong one fateful day in the cafeteria, when some strange, unknown substance hit her right in the face.
“...Do I want to know what that is?”

“Your art is looking so great!” Lakhi said excitedly, before she even looked at their canvas. As she turned though, Lakhi had to do a double take to stop herself from gasping, “Woooow! That’s so… orginial… and creative!”
The outdoor painting event had been going so well, Lakhi had been mingling with royals all morning. Not many people knew her, but now was a perfect chance to make good connections and get close to some of the royals here. Everyone loved a good pride event, right? Even if Lakhi hadn’t put a drop of paint on a canvas herself.
Tumblr media
“Uhhhh, thanks?” Effie replied, albeit questioningly, as she splattered yet some more random paint onto the canvas. Whoever had arranged this event seemingly hadn’t organized the material given in any reasonable way, and nobody had really stopped by her yet to tell her what was what, so at this point she was just having some fun making a mess of things.
Part of her wondered if this was one of those pity, ‘oh art by a blind person, how extraordinary!’ people, but even the way - whoever this was - had phrased their compliment like they didn’t quite know what to make of it themselves. Which, if nothing else, at least boded better than the former.

In all honesty the question threw her off, what brought her here? She didn’t answer instead she placed a hand on her hip, unaware that the other couldn’t see, and said,”Well, I was going to ask you the same thing. You’re not from around here, are you?”
It was easy to tell and, though she didn’t know who she was, she could tell this was yet another Auradon kid sneaking onto the Isle. Eniola didn’t care much for these people, she didn’t think thye had any common sense. After all who would willingly risk trouble to come here and…do what? What did they ever want to accomplish while there on the Isle?
“If I said yes, would you believe me?” Again, unlikely, but worth a shot. If nothing else she might be funny enough to not get kidnapped, or worse. Although maybe some of the gangs around here were interested in a blind, asian comic. Who knew?
She tried to take a step forward without using her cane, as if to sell the illusion, but instead she simply found herself bumping into something and grimacing. “Ow!”

Open Starter: Who’ll Find Me
In the midst of dancing, Mal was slowly starting to enjoy herself. The music was nice, all her friends were there and she’d met a few new faces who seemed alright. She didn’t want to get ahead of herself, but things had been going smoothly and Mal didn’t see a reason to leave for once. That is, until her shoe made a horrible ‘schirk!’ noise while dancing. She almost tripped and fell to her knee, but caught herself on the nearest table.
“That could’ve been bad…” Mal lifted her foot up to see the broken heel of her shoe hanging on by just a little patching. With a sigh, she turned to the person sitting at the table, “You wouldn’t happen to have glue on you, by any chance?”
Tumblr media
Despite enjoying the environment of dances, actually dancing had never quite been Effie’s thing. So she was more than happy to stand on the side lines and occasionally tune in to the odd conversation in order to entertain herself. Besides, while everyone else was busy working up a sweat, she had complete control over the snack table, so she could hardly complain.
However, the unmistakable sound of a breaking heel and some poor soul almost falling to the ground launched her into action.
“Never leave the hosue without it.” She replied, already pulling the appropriate tube from her handbag. “Always better to be overprepared than underprepared, right?”

She sighed and walked closer to person to get a better view of them. Sshe focused her vision on them, trying to figure out whether or not she knew who they were. They weren’t very imposing, and also didn’t carry themselves like an Isle citizen. They…had a cane? Shifting her weight to be less cane-dependent in case she needed to hit someone she spoke again,”No. No I would not believe you if you said ‘no one’. So who are you?”
Eniola hadn’t known of anyone else on the Isle who needed a cane. They held it differently though, they weren’t leaning on it for support the same way Eniola had to just to walk.
Why did they seem to be so confused to be caught? Surely they didn’t think they could get so close to her without being noticed, that would be ridiculous.
“Well, it was worth a shot.” Effie replied, somewhat begrudgingly, before attempting to turn to face the girl. Or maybe it was a woman? Regardless, considering her current situation it would probably be a good idea to at least try to appear like she could see.
However, with little to no experience speaking with someone who may - or may not - be an Isle worthy criminal, her attempts to ‘act casual’ probably came off, a little underwhelming.
“So, what brings you here?”

“Relax, you don’t need to explain yourself. How you learned isn’t an issue, I just need to take a look at your work before I can recommend you to the company. Proper procedure and all that - the boring stuff, y’know?” At her last comment, Effie couldn’t help but chuckle. “Nah, Auradon fashion’s always been a little, lackluster. It’s not our job to follow the trends anyway, it’s our job to set them. I like the passion, though. That’s a good sign.”

Oh, it’s you.
-
The sun was setting on the gloomy landscape of the Isle while Eniola was hurrying home. Well, hurrying as quickly as she could with her heavy bag and cane. She hoped the darkening sky meant there would be less people around, even if there were maybe she’d be able to avoid them. She was even less of a sociable mood than usual.
She knew earlier in the day she needed a few things from the trading and market stalls. She planned to go early and stay out for most of the day since it was just her and her father in the house. The Hyena’s had been gone for a few days now, not that Eniola cared. She couldn’t afford to care. But her plans of going out had been altered when her dad presented other ideas. Actually, there were no other ideas, Eniola had spent the day being yelled at and…arguing with her dad. Fun.
So here she was with the day ending and trying to hurry home, she payed careful attention to everything around her. That was how she noticed a person moving in the shadows. Eniola squinted at the spot, yes that was definitely a person. What were they doing out here?
”Who’s there?” She called, her voice unfaltering although she gripped her bag and cane a little tighter.
Maybe Effie should have taken the universe’s hint and headed back to the safer grounds across the water after running into the infamous Harry Hook. But curiosity - and a decent dose of pride - goaded her onwards. So, she found herself wandering deeper and deeper into the heart of the Isle. Or, at least she assumed that’s where she was going. She’d barely gotten use to the geography of Auradon, so her guess was probably worse than anyone else’s right now.
It was surprising how long she’d gone without being caught by anyone. Or maybe she had, but they’d been smart enough to realise that she didn’t bring anything valuable enough to warrant bothering her. Probably an optimistic way of looking at things but, hey, a girl could dream.
Regardless, she assumed that whoever just called out was referring to her, and even if she wasn’t soley relying on her quite frankly terrible sense of direction, she doubted she’d be able to get away from someone who knew the Isle far better than she did.
And someone who could probably see. That tends to come in handy in chasing situations.
“Would you believe me if I said no-one?”

“They really oughta. I mean, to have their resemblance manifested through these hands? I envy them,” he laughs, carving out a few more details into the face of the wooden figure.
“I could use some of that superior hearing. I miss, maybe, half of what I’m supposed to be learning in class. Guess I’m more of a kinesthetic learner…or it could be that I’ve got selective hearing. That’s a thing, right? Either way, I’m still passing, so I guess it’ll do.”
“Oh?” he inquires, glances at her for a moment. “Maybe you’ve got an ear for it then.”
Tumblr media
“Sure, it’s all fun and games until you hear something you really shouldn’t’ve,” she teased in return, taking a step back from the carving to allow him full reign to continue his work. “Selective hearing’s definitely a thing, but most artists tend to prefer working with their hands, so I’d say you’re probably just more of a kinesthetic learner. Then again, I barely know you.”
Hmm, maybe he wasn’t quite as oblivious as she’d thought. “I wish. Superior hearing really doesn’t help much when it comes to art, though.”

“Ok, I’m gonna introduce myself. I’m Ayana Kani of the Pridelands, meaning I was raised in the savanna. I’ve been sewing my own clothes since I was 10. Now, I don’t know much about trends but I have valuable experience so..there’s that.”
“Effie Mode, but I’m sure you knew that. The Savanna? That’s a market I don’t think we’ve cracked yet. Mostly because animals aren’t exactly into fashion. Experience is definitely better than knowing the trends, though. Trends change all the time, but if you can make clothes then you can always make clothes.”

In hindsight, maybe sneaking her way onto the Isle hadn’t been one of her smarter plans. But she’d heard of other students heading past the barrier and apparently living to brag about it, so she decided that she wanted in. Besides, powerless villains and their vengeful children couldn’t be too difficult to deal with, right?
Before leaving Auradon Prep she’d been sure to at least look the part. While she was hardly the master seamstress her mother was, she was sure that she was skilled enough to make the kind of rugged-leather look typical of the Isle that she’d heard described in the past. However, the fact that her bright white cane would probably stand out like a sore thumb didn’t hit her until she was over half way there, and by that point it felt too late to turn back.
She supposed that she was just lucky that she hadn’t run into anyone yet, but she was also incredibly bored. Sure, she hadn’t arrived with the expectation that the Isle was as dangerous as everyone said it was, but she hadn’t expected it to be this dull either.

Wandering out into the forest wasn’t an unfamiliar passtime to the celebrity. Outside of the noises of nature, it was relatively quiet and peaceful there. Not many of the students frequented the less maintaned area of Auradon, and paparazzi generally didn’t think to look for her all the way out there. Of course, there were always exceptions, but in the early hours of the morning there were generally a lot less. So, Effie found herself a comfortable spot, leaned back against the rough - but not wholly uncomfortable - bark of a tree, and just listened.
Which only made the sound of approaching - and quickly ceasing - footsteps that much more noticable.
“You can come out, you know.”

Perking up a bit once he realized he wasn’t alone anymore, Ferris lightly laid his colored pencil down,”Yeah  uh thanks for asking Effie.” He mumbled quietly, trying to add a bit of pep into his tone. He rubbed his face a bit before crossing his arms.
”Sorry, did you need something? If I’m in your seat I’ll gladly move.” He added, glancing down at his unfinished coloring page. There was something melancholic about the unfinished flowers that irked him further.
Tumblr media
“That doesn’t sound alright to me. What’s up?” She could have beat around the bush, but that didn’t seem like the best solution right now. Attempting to please whatever self-loathing Ferris was experiencing hardly felt like the best approach to cheering him up.
“I need you to stop dancing around my questions, Calhoun. Seriously, what’s wrong? Do I need to beat someone up?” Granted, that last sentence was some light teasing, but she was genuinely concerned. Effie knew that she wasn’t exactly Ferris’ closest friend, or even anywhere close to it, but she’d never heard him sound this beat up about, well, anything.

Though there is, in fact, a someone in particular that had been hanging around his subconscious mind, one he’s certain the wooden figure had started taking the form of, Tai denies it with a, “Nah. Just some rando. I’ll figure it out later.”
“I’ve spent many years carefully crafting this tone of mine to just the right amount of apathy, so I appreciate you taking notice of that,” he thanks her, letting out a sharp exhale of a laugh. “Good to reacquaint with you, too, Effie. You happen to be a connoisseur of the arts? I’m getting that kinda vibe from you.”
Tumblr media
Effie wasn’t sure how easy it would be to start carving a wooden figure and then ‘figure out’ what - or who - it was suppose to look like ‘later’. But considering that art wasn’t exactly her strong suit, she decided to take his word for it. “Well, I’m sure that ‘rando’ feels very lucky right about now.”
“Well, superior hearing does come in handy,” she grinned. Not that her hearing was actually that much better than anybody else’s. Or, at least, she didn’t think so. It wasn’t liek she had experience hearing through, say, her mom’s ears or anything.
At his next words, however, she had to hold back a chuckle. “I try, but I don’t really have an eye for it.”
