Hey Dr. Fletcher! (post JVC) Have you ever introduced (or considered to) Andrew to your social cycle? eg. Bringing him along to a jazz club for a drink with your friends? If so, how did Andrew react?

Yeah I’ve lugged his pretty boy ass around a few times. Kid needs to get some hair on his chest so I’ve taken him to bar/clubs before and snuck him a drink. The look on his face when I gave him bourbon was hilarious.

I’ve taken him to hang with some old friends before. He’s hopeless in social situations, but I’m working on it. A big part of being in jazz is the hang. You can’t just coast by on talent and practice alone, as much as I wish we could. So, that means you have to shed the fucking niceties and small talk as much as you do on comping.

Do you have a favorite type of student? Like, one with a lot of grit and not necessarily a lot of talent? Or student pet peeves, like you can't stand the snobby rich music kids?

Talent is always preferred, but someone with a work ethic is ideal. Someone who comes back swinging twice as hard, no matter what type of shit the world throws at them. That is true greatness.

As for pet peeves…I hate gum or eating while directing (OOC: the noise gives him the ick but he won’t admit it lol!)

Also fucking noodling around on their instruments while I’m talking. I can’t get any shit done with some asswipe fucking around on his guitar like John Mayer with a dystonic tremor. You’re not Kenny Burrell, shut the fuck up!
