Men's Soccer World Cup Hooks US Viewers

Viewership of the USA vs. Portugal match spiked at 24.7 million on Tuesday following the USA's 2-1 victory against Ghana. This sudden surge in American viewership of soccer, or football to the majority of team USA's opponents call it, has been linked to not only the similar time zones of Brazil and the USA but also the growing interest of the sport at a grass roots level. However success in soccer is not new to the US, two years ago the women's soccer team won the Olympic title and a year previous to that they won second place to Japan in the World Cup. Although it is yet to be seen what this sudden interest in the World Cup will mean for America, one can expect that World Cup fever will continue to grip the nation if team USA progress to the group which is a certainty if they manage a draw with Germany.
