People always gloss over how mentally damaging it can be to work in retail. I fucking hate that whenever I say “I could never work in retail again” someone has to reply “You snowflake millennials can’t take a starter job because you have to INTERACT with other people” No. Fuck you. I’ve worked as a planetarium host. I’ve worked as a public speaker. I’ve worked as a tutor and as a student teacher. I can work with people. I can work with crowds. Retail was fucking different. Retail was being treated as a subhuman. Retail was being treated so poorly that you have anxiety attacks before work. Having to work retail was a factor in my last suicide attempt. If I hear you say one fucking word about retail workers playing the victim I will personally break every bone in your body. Fuck You.

so what is msa? ive heard of it n it looks cool but I have no idea what it’s about

msa (mystery skulls animated) is a series of original animated music videos by youtube animator ben mangum/mysteryben27, promoting the music of mystery skulls aka luis dubuc! and they’re officially recognized by luis himself!!!

the first video in the series based on the song “ghost” came out in 2014, and managed to get MILLIONS OF VIEWS MORE than the ORIGINAL live action mv (it currently has about 35m, compare that to the original at only 1.1m). it quickly gained a shitton of popularity for its clean animation and fun and stylized character designs, but what makes these videos ESPECIALLY unique is the story going on.

the msa series is fantastic at visual storytelling without any dialogue at all. i won’t get into too many spoilers here, and then there’s the fact that a lot of the character lore we have are from outside sources like ben’s social media, BUT VERY QUICK RUNDOWN:

as of yesterday there are 4 music videos out (ORDER: ghost, freaking out, hellbent, the future) all continuing the story from the first and getting increasingly more epic. ghost is definitely the most straight-forward in terms of storytelling, but i reccomend rewatching it a few times. keep an eye out for the small details 👀

oh yea just throwing it out there but. if u are a beginning digital artist PLEASE i am BEGGING you to experiment with different methods of making your drawings because i see so many of yall suffering for no reason using what you’re taught because you don’t know to try a different way. like SO MANY PEOPLE people make jokes about how much worse their lineart looks from their sketch and how much of a pain it is to do lineart… if that’s you, then, don’t do lineart! just clean up your sketch a bit, or keep the bits from the sketch that you like the most and only do a separate layer for the things that really need fixing, or just paint right onto it!! endless possibilities. if u keep having trouble with layers? u don’t need them, just merge them and keep going. better at sketching traditionally than digitally? take a picture of ur sketch and draw on top of it. there is no One Right Way to do anything in art except what’s fun and satisfying for you. be free
