i’m having a lot of thoughts rn about how the distinction between animated and live action is mostly a mental construction when it comes to cg-heavy blockbusters and how a cg heavy movie isn’t a bad thing but the air of legitimacy given to “live action” stuff that is basically 100% animated is part of devaluing digital artists and animators in the filmmaking process

My default assumption whenever I see people pitching fits about how characters or ships or the color of the wallpaper or whatever else they don't like must be evil, is that they are a teenager.

They are a teenager who has never used anything other than an algorithmic feed on a social media app to find fannish content, they don't even know where the settings page is, and they're having a real bad time. They have to get up early in the morning, school is awful, all their clique-y peers have been mean to them about their weight, their teachers are impatient, they just got seven hours of homework and their last class was gym. And they are eternally frightened that they're secretly a bad person and their only current recourse against this is to be like, at least I know that pineapple on pizza is a sin.

Approaching things from this angle has never steered me wrong. Even when the person in question is not literally a teenager, they're still pretty much letting their inner kid drive the bus right now.

"A four year age gap is abusive!" okay champ. Screen time's up. Let's get you a protein shake and a nap.

I hope Clair Obscur becomes a franchise like Final Fantasy and we get more games with the same style/similar combat even if the plots aren't connected.

I am not finished the game yet (inside the monolith currently, I think I'm still in Act 2), but Expedition 33 really is so special. The story is so engaging, and heart wrenching at times. The settings are gorgeous, the music is gorgeous. A couple other things I just want to call out as adding to the experience in big ways:

1. Traversing as Lune. Many of the locations have this surreal quality to them that gets pushed to a whole other dreamy level when you can choose to float through them.

2. No mini map. When I first started playing I thought this was a small tick in the 'con' column but I've realized that it was actually such a smart choice. Visually the game leans into that light-dark theme so both shadows and brightness can interfere with your vision and create unknowns on the map. That impact would be dampened if you had a minimap. There are big expansive games that create a feeling of discovery and exploration by giving you a giant map to run across and find cool stuff on, but Expedition 33 gives you that same feeling through a combo of art style, nooks'n'crannies, and -- importantly -- no mini map.

i do understand the logic you have behind putting all minecraft youtubers together but we don't claim any of the dream fans that's the thing. we've done our best to run them off from tumblr and it's not our fault if we've failed and they annoy other people. sorry i guess i don't feel hermitcraft, tommy, or others like lifesteal deserve to be lumped together with the real problem.
