A side blog for all my superheroes. Mainly Captain America and Bucky Barnes right now, but there will be an excessive amount of Loki, Magneto, and Cyclops/Jean Grey likely depending on my mood at the time. Not spoiler free, but all CW spoilers are tagged ca:cw spoilers.

There's only one serial killer on the loose? This is actually Gotham doing unusually well.

To be fair, it's not necessarily that we aren't being normal about them. I for one simply did not trust the MCU to be normal about them.
God forbid there be two Native American superheroes in the same franchise without people going "are they related?"
It's like saying "Spidey and Thor are secretly related cause they're both white" Do realise how fucking stupid that sounds?!?
Same shit happened when we got Black Panther and suddenly every black person was a secret Wakandan.
Why can't y'all be normal when it comes to PoC superheroes.

the thing about matt murdock is that he doesn’t even have superpowers that are all that useful for crime fighting. he’s a human lie detector and could probably sniff out a murderer based on one droplet of sweat left at the scene but does he have super healing? super strength? super speed? all no. babe could have been sherlock holmes on steroids & instead he’s going out with three broken ribs and a concussion to fight the irish mob, the yakuza, the hand clan, the russian mafia, wilson fisk, and every minor criminal that crosses his path with his fists and a billy club

The "What makes you so special?" "Nothing. I'm just a kid from Brooklyn" exchange is one of the many best moments of the first Captain America movie, because it shows explicitly that the main thing that separates a hero from a villain is humility.

Look, I'm extremely open to redemption stories. I could absolutely have accepted a former slaver as queen of New Asgard. If she had shown actual remorse for her actions. If we had gotten any hint that she was actively turning away from that. But instead, we don't technically even know if she ever stopped selling people. Her growth was all about embracing being a valkyrie again, not about recognizing that people shouldn't be bought and sold.
But, to be fair, someone who considers entire groups of people as less valuable is probably exactly what Asgard wants in its leader, given how they never seemed to mind Odin.
So people dont mind that former slaver is the queen of New Asgard...

This approach is especially fun when watching other superhero movies, because he was in Fantastic 4 and Push. So yeah, when he was younger, apparently Cap was the Human Torch.
Bold of you to assume that Captain America will stop existing just because Chris Evans’ contract ended. I’ll just see a movie with Chris Evans in it and think “Cap is selling drugs now? Being an Avenger must have not paid well” and accept it as part of the MCU timeline.

This! Here's the deal. I don't ship Stucky. They are my brotp, but romantically Steggy is one of my all time favorite OTPs. And I hated how Steve's story was wrapped up.
There are ways they could have given him a happy ending with Peggy that don't deliberately devalue his friendships, especially with Bucky, but really with all his present day friends. There are ways they could have given him a happy ending with Peggy that didn't destroy most of the things that I love about the character.
The minute they lost the Tesseract to Loki and were talking about not having enough Pim particles, I was hoping Steve would stay in the past as a sacrifice because they didn't have enough for both to get back to the future, and then he would get together with Peggy more naturally, and realize there were perks to being back in time. There were ways it could have made me happy, both for Steve and for his story arc. But instead they chose to send him back to stay in a way that disrespects everything he has worked for and all the relationships he has built along the way.
I think a lot of people fail to realise that criticism of Steve’s arc in endgame isn’t just rooted in a stucky endgame fantasy or purely out of frustration because stucky wasn’t canon. I think the vast majority of shippers knew that the chances of stucky ever being canon was nonexistent and boiling it down to ‘salty shippers’ erases what is perhaps one of the greatest wastes of character development in movie history. Most of the people angry at Steve’s arc, myself included, are angry because it obliterated several movies worth of development to fulfil a white picket fence fantasy that we know as an audience he long since abandoned. Steve spends the entirety of endgame mourning Peggy, who died seven years ago. Not once does he mention Bucky, his best friend since childhood who he chased for two whole movies and abandoned his mantle of captain america (the thing he wanted most in this world) for. Not once does he think of Sam, his best friend who welcomed him into his home and upended his whole life to support him even when he didn’t have to. Even Nat, who we know he thought of as family, barely got more than a single tear when she died. Instead, his focus and motivation this entire time is a woman who he knows has moved on. Who found the love of her life, who was married and had children and got her happily ever after. Her last words to him were a plea for him to move on with the family and friends he found in the present. His entire arc in age of ultron is about proving that he’s no longer a man out of time, he’s found his home with people who love him, he himself says that he no longer wants that idealised fantasy. They spent five movies showing Steve acclimatising to the present, finding a group of people that understand him, a family that he might have never found in the past and yet all that is stripped away in the span of three hours so they can give him a cookie cutter happy ending that no longer fits.

Since I’m on a Pepper loving kick tonight, let me bring up…the Rescue armour! I love Rescue and have for AGES, but I was surprised to see that the armour was this purple-tinted blue and silver (or gold in the toy…?) in Endgame! It wasn’t quite any iteration I’d seen of Rescue’s armour before.  At first I thought it might be a nod at the sortof blue/purple colour scheme of Infinity War and Endgame, but then I thought of something way better since Tony was the one to make it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s pretty much the same colour as Pepper’s dress from Iron Man 1. The one she bought herself as a present from Tony. The one she wore during the dance that really brought their romance to life.  If Tony based her armour off of that? That’s romantic enough that I want to cry.

And Loki never wanted the throne, only ever wanted to be Thor's equal. So even if they decided that two kings wouldn't work officially, whcih I think would have been politically complicated in a classic monarchy like Asgard, Loki would have been happy, and very good at, being the power behind the throne as long as Thor actually listened to him. Working from the shadows is his strong suit, and that would have allowed it. And he also could still have acted as regent every time Thor was away, which would probably have been quite often.

I will protect Asgard and all the realms with my last and every breath, but I cannot do so from that chair. Loki, for all his grave imbalance, understood rule as I know I never will.
Tom Hiddleston in ‘Thor: The Dark World’, (2013). Dir. Alan Taylor.

weird, personal tony stark headcanon: after he and Pepper get married, Tony gives all his iron man suits a wedding ring by coloring a band of armor on the ring finger gold so that everyone knows he’s a taken man

I don't think it is a matter of them not knowing how monarchy works. It was a matter of them not caring how monarchy works.
Sif and the Warriors Three spent perhaps a thousand years knowing that their best friend would be king. And everyone else knew it too. That gave them a certain freedom that very few possessed. They could do almost anything, get away with almost anything, because who was going to tell off the band who would soon be the right hands of the king. And, because this was over the course of a millennium, they got used to the idea that their friend Thor was the future king. Thor specifically, not just the son of the king.
Then, over the course of a few bad days, all of that falls apart and suddenly the skinny nerd they bullied and who used to tag along with the group still is suddenly sitting on the throne. On the throne they had always seen as belonging to their best friend. And suddenly the new king doesn't care about their opinions.
In that moment it's not about Thor anymore. I don't mean to suggest that they don't genuinely care about Thor, I believe they do, but I do think wanting him on the throne instead of Loki is ultimately motivated at least in part by them feeling like their rightful place at the king's side has been usurped. Because this was supposed to be Thor's moment of triumph, but theirs too by their friendship with Thor. They had to go get Thor back, even human!Thor, and install him on the throne because that was the only way to keep the power they had held in Asgard for centuries. It didn't matter to them that it was treason.
