@without-an-alibi interviewed ally: "I already know this kid's gonna be the luckiest kid in the world. They've got you as a mom.."

“Yeah,” Ally whispered under her breath as she lay in bed next to him, her gaze fixed blankly on the television. She couldn’t recall the name of the program they were watching to save her life. If she got caught, she’d just blame it on pregnancy brain—a convenient excuse she’d been leaning on more and more lately, especially with all the silly things she’d been doing around the house. Like leaving her keys in the freezer or forgetting to let Charlie back inside overnight. Forgetting the name of a show neither of them was paying much attention to didn’t seem out of the ordinary.

Still, she couldn't shake the urge to cry at Jackson’s comment. Ally was terrified of being a terrible mother, overwhelmed by the unknowns of what was to come—especially since her own mother wasn’t there to guide her through each step. “…But what if I’m a horrible mother?” Ally finally spoke up, her voice quiet but raw. She turned her head to look at Jackson, but only reluctantly. “I have no clue what the fuck I’m doin'.”

“Sorry, I’ve, uh… been busy with… work,” Ally muttered. Truth be told, she couldn't even remember the last time she'd sat down at the piano during this minor depressive episode. On top of that, taking care of a newborn all alone was challenging enough without the recording company breathing down her neck every minute of the day. “Why don’t you come in? AJ’s asleep right now,” Ally offered, but quickly added, “But don’t worry about wakin' her. You could have an entire band play here, and she’d sleep right through it.”

Ally stayed quiet for the most part, watching carefully to see how deep they’d dig themselves with each passing lie. She knew for a fact they were lying to her. Normally, she might’ve let it slide if they’d come clean upfront, but the fact that they were insisting on keeping up the lie was starting to get on her nerves. Aside from the occasional ‘mhmm’ and ‘uh-huh,’ she lingered near the couch, nodding along to their story. She let them finish, but when they did, she finally spoke up, her voice calm but sharp. “Why are you lying to me, hmm?”

“A–Are ya' sure you wanna meet my dad?” She wasn’t opposed to bringing them home for the holidays, not in the slightest. But the idea of doing so during the most chaotic time of the year—when her dad went all out for Christmas dinner—was a little daunting, to say the least. How could she even begin to explain the madness of her dad’s best friends hanging around the table, gambling on horse races from all over the world? This was going to be one hell of a task. “I don’t mind you coming home for the holidays. I’m sure he’d love to meet you and all, but I just... I don’t know.” Ally shrugged, knowing there was no easy way to explain. “Sure, you can come over for Christmas dinner. Yeah. Why the hell not?”

“I don’t care how many people are out there waiting for me—for us—to show up at some frivolous event,” Ally said, her voice rising as she tried to drive her point home. “I already told you, I’m not going with you!” She didn’t care if she sounded like a diva in that moment. All she could think about was the idea of being seen on the red carpet with someone who wasn’t her late husband. The very thought crushed her inside, making it clear she wasn’t ready—evident in how fiercely she was resisting. “Do you even know what they’ll be saying about us not even minutes after we’re seen together?” she continued, her tone sharp and unwavering. “Yeah, that’s what I thought.”

i think i've mentioned this previously in passing, but do not, under any circumstance, stay out all night without letting ally know where you are and/or occasionally checking in with her regarding the fact that they're going to be home later than expected. ally still has trauma around her mothers death where she expected her to come home before bedtime and then found out she passed away in the middle of the night by a drunk driver, so her mind automatically assumes the worst has happened when someone goes missing in action when they're supposed to be somewhere else. some examples of this include when one of her ex-boyfriends stayed out with his buddies all night, getting drunk, when he told her he'd be back by 10pm. she stayed up all night texting him with no answer and when he came home, well... she was hysterical. just tell her you'll be late & you'll be fine.
