Hi! Welcome to A-Level Foundation Art!

Here I will be sharing the coursework programme and some of my work for my AS/A-Level Art class. Unlike my other subject blogs, I won’t be able to share ordered notes for each class, because I don’t actually have any live classes!

The Foundational Art course is split into three stages: the Exploratory, Pathway, and Confirmatory stages. The exploratory stage introduces you to different areas and aspects of the art world — “art” is such a broad term! The pathway stage allows you to choose a select few sections to explore more in-depth and study in a more advanced manner, and, finally, the confirmatory stage is when you start deciding more solidly what area you would like to study seriously, or go on to pursue at university. You start sending college applications, and exploring different possible careers in your designated medium(s), all while developing your skills and understanding of the subject to a more proficient level.

During each of these stages, I will have a number of projects to complete — these are mostly compiled research, analyses of different artist’s pieces, and implementation of techniques in my own works. For copyright purposes, I don’t know how much of my own creations I’m going to share on here, but I can post the requirements for the different projects, and my approach towards/progress with them. That way, anyone who may be interested to give it a go on their own will have a basic idea of what’s studied and expected in an A-level art class, forming a helpful starting-point for their own work.
