Being in a room full of Sponsors made Cole uneasy. A few of them had already recognized him and had asked for photos and signatures. As the night went on and they got drunker they also got bolder, and one had grabbed his ass. Quickly walking away, he pressed himself to a wall towards the back where he wouldn’t be seen. 

The other big problem of the night was he was also trying to avoid Paisley, still feeling awful for having kissed him, and then not even being brave enough to face him. Part of him hoped he didn’t see him tonight, while another part longed for him wanting to feel as comfortable as he did in the training center with him. Letting out a sigh, he sipped on the beer he was holding, scanning the crowd. 

“can you move?” she replied, tapping her foot impatiently, “I need to get to the bar.”

Everything seemed to be upside down in her life.  Once again Stone was gone.  River was broken apart by the seams.  Nothing was going right in her life and just once Marina wished something good would happen.  Yet, she was good.  She avoided the avoxes bearing trays of drinks.  Instead she excused herself from speaking with a sponsor by moving up along side someone passing her.  “Sorry, I just used you as my excuse for leaving.  Hope you don’t mind.”

Astrid frowned as she looked up, raising an eyebrow at the unfamiliar redhead. ‘Wouldn’t you have been better at picking someone who wasn’t a complete stranger?”

He shook his head, the Astrid he knew having stayed the same all these years. “Ouch,” he stated as he grabbed for his heart. “This weather still has nothing on that warm personality of yours. Good thing I don’t need your help to advance, it just would have been a nice perk.”

“Please, stop trying to pretend you’re doing all that great.” she replied with a roll of her eyes. “You’re still an intern.”

“Someone like me?” Daisy asked confused. “What is that supposed to mean? We used to be friends.”

“used to be, as in past tense.” she replied harshly, “what does that tell you?”

“I’m sorry?” he asked, sensing her comment was meant to be insulting, but not understanding it fully.

“You heard me, I heard you were weak.”

“You Capitolites always find something to complain about even though things are still better for you under the new administration than it is for everyone else.  If you saw tributes as human beings rather than a source of amusement maybe you’d feel differently.”

“Don’t be one of those, don’t make snap judgements about me. It’ll just make you look stupid, and I’m sure that whilst you’re used to that, I’ll just save you the time and stop you. You don’t know me, you don’t know my life. You don’t know what I find amusing, or what this new administration means to me. So how about, you just leave it, hmm?”

“It was a joke, trust me if you heard my singing voice you’d be glad it was a joke.” Nodding his head. “You have one of those weird Capitol names? Like Sunflower Ruby Sapphire the Third?” 

“You don’t make funny jokes.” she replied raising an eyebrow, before a sigh parted her lips as she realised she wouldn’t be getting away without having to tell him her name. “Astrid.”

Daisy couldnt help but smile as she noticed she hit something. She missed their friendship and hated seeing what Astrid was becoming. “Oh, I can tell. So happy.” She said sarcastically. “We can go back to old ways, Astrid. Life doesnt have to suck, it can be great. I can help you.” She told the blonde, holding her hand out to her.

“No, don’t touch me.” she hissed, “Why would I ever be friends with someone like you hmm? I have far more interesting things to do.”

He was in slight disbelief that anyone could be bored while children’s lives were at stake, broadcasted for all the country to see. He then remembered not everyone was as invested as he had to be, was made to be. “Not that I find it all that entertaining, but the Games are nearing there end,” he replied. “Should provide entertainment worth your time.”

Astrid raised an eyebrow at the response, “And to think they were all saying you were the weak mentor, only half right.”

“Green isn’t a good look on you,” he snickered. “But you should know that, stylist and all that.” Politely he pulled her in for a brief hug, having not seen the girl since he began working in the Tower, his social life all but dead. “Maybe you can design a Gamemaker outfit for me that’ll get me promoted.”

“It’s a fantastic look on me, but I’m not jealous of you Peggy darling.” she replied with a sigh, before wrinkling her nose at the hug, “Careful, this is new.” she replied, indicating to the dress before a smirk passed her lips. “Honey, there’s  nothing in the world that could make you look promotion worthy.”

“You say that like you wouldn’t be mopy if your tributes were dead and had no choice but to be away from home,” she replied.

“Don’t get to know them, so no. I wouldn’t.”

“I mean I personally think a karaoke night or something around here would improve things, nobody seems to agree.” Shrugging his shoulders. “Hey what can I say I’m amazing at observing things. Nice to meet you Ruelle, tell me first or last name?” 

“Ew, why would you suggest that? That’s so 105.” she replied with a roll of her eyes, “Last name.”

“I fix my own thanks. I don’t like people I don’t know touching my stuff.” He said, his interest wanning.“I started at 18.So a good fifteen years, for the sake of accuracy. I’ve been here a lot longer than most.Seen a lot of interns like you.” He said with a shrug.

‘Who said you’d know I was even in there?’ she replied with a smirk, “What, they all surpass you? From what I heard you’re only person to stay as long here.”

“Who wouldnt laugh at pudding crawling around? Food crawling around? Priceless! At least I live my life happy and you chose to live it miserably. Do you ever miss being happy, Astrid?” She asked her old friend.

“Oh my god.” she muttered, rolling her eyes. When Daisy mentioned being happy she froze slightly, not quite meeting Daisy in the eye. She remembered all too well the fun they used to have, giggling together as they whispered to each other. She schooled her features into one of cool neutrality, “I am happy.”

Satin was walking by with a water bottle when he heard the girl’s question. “Pretty much this is it. Enjoy.” Smiling, afterwards. “You’re new here. Satin nice to meet you, Ms?” 

“Oh, so much enjoyment.” she replied sarcastically, “Good observation skills. Ruelle.”

“Define always like this,” Glitter replied as she looked over at the young woman.  “You’ll have to be more specific.”

“Are you all so mopey?” she replied raising a brow, “And why can’t I go back to my normal job now that the interviews are over? I have no jobs now.”
