“No, no, no.” He started chanting at the mention of her payment. In all honesty Silas had saved up plenty of currency, enough to last him many lifetimes. A soft smiled played at his lips as she began to grab for what he could only assume was her wallet, though it quickly vanished at her mention of his species. His eyes widened as he stared down at her, the beast within pushing at his instinct to run; instead he took a deep inhale, pulling her scent towards him. He had never experienced anything like it in his many years of life. “What are you?”
She could see the shock register over the boy’s face- because clearly, she’d been right. Of course, she was right. She’d been around Jacob Black enough to know the stench anywhere. It wasn’t that she had a vendetta against wolves- she was just careful of them, as they weren’t always so kind to her about her existence. “A hybrid. My mother was human when she had me, and she’s a vampire now. My father is a vampire.”

Silas was on edge being within Volterra. He knew the majority of the Children of the Moon had made their home on the outskirts of the mountainside town, but he did not wish to fight in their war. He had been alive within the Volturi first set upon his kind; however, he had known it was best to stay clear of the upcoming horror and had set himself apart. He was hoping that his presence would go unnoticed and he was sure it would as long as he stuck to the shadows as he had done all those years before. Then there was a strange scent washing over him, his brows pulled together as it lead him through the city. When the brute force of a smaller figure crashed into him he did not stumble back, his hands grasping the shoulders of the other in order to make sure they didn’t either. “I understand,” he spoke through a laugh, “I wasn’t paying much attention either.”
“I’m so so sorry I wasn’t paying attention, and now you’re all covered in coffee,” she said her voice rising a little bit in panic. It would be one thing if it was someone she knew but what made it worse was that she didn’t even know this guy. “I could give you money for a new shirt or something, really I don’t mind,” she says fumbling for her wallet and pulling out a few Euros. Just as she was about to hand over the money scent filled her nostrils, smelling a bit like a wet dog and her face screwed up slightly. “I didn’t know Children of the Moon were also invited to settle here in Volterra.”

“no, it’s okay.” renesmee spoke, softly shaking her head. her bright eyes were sincere. she didn’t come to the coffee shop to drink human beverages and eat their food. to be honest, the hybrid didn’t like it and rarely ever did if she didn’t have to. she stuck to only drinking animal blood. but she wanted to explore the country her family was staying in. volterra was beautiful. she was enjoying spending some of her time soaking in the culture and it’s people. the art and the music. “i didn’t like this top much anyway. though coffee isn’t my preferred choice of drink.” she added as a little joke.
“I still feel about it Renesmee, your shirt is completely ruined,” she says looking at the white fabric on her cousin's shirt. She knew that the girl wasn’t particularly fond of food, and preferred to keep the same diet as their parents, but she didn’t always like having to deal with going hunting or the blood that would always get on her clothes. Getting animal blood out of clothes was a task she didn’t like having to do constantly. Being able to eat regular food meant being able to go out with her friends to restaurants and never rouse suspicion. “So um what brings you into town? I didn’t really think you’d be interested in exploring the city of the people who tried to kill you as a kid.”

It wasn’t ideal to be stuck in Volterra, and she’d pushed back at her “adoptive parents” when they’d alerted her of being called to Volterra until the Volturi deemed that their coven was clear of any suspicions. leaving behind friends and a routine that she liked for the Italian countryside might sound like a dream to some, but Asteria was restless, needed to keep busy. At the suggestion of her family, she took the town streets figuring that finding a fun cafe with good coffee could help her feel a little more comfortable, seeing as no one around her seemed to keep a fridge, let alone food for her to eat if she didn’t want blood. Having found a suitable cafe nestled just 10 minutes from her temporary home she slammed into someone else as she rounded a corner, coffee spilling over both individuals. “Fuck me.” she grumbled before looking up, “I’m so sorry- I was in my own world and didn’t see you coming.”

highlordnikolai:
The events of the chaos Hybern triggered flashed before Nikolai’s eyes with an aching headache followed with a sickness in the pit of his stomach. He was conscious one second, raising a toast with his fellow High Lords to their courts, then unconscious the next second dropping to the floor like a sack of potatoes. The image that flashed before he slipped into the darkness was tainted behind his eyelids: the Cauldron. He awoke soon later with his siblings hovering above him, Asteria at his side along with the members of his court. It was true what the Made were proclaiming; Hybern had attacked.
After talking it out with the rest of the High Lords what the connection to the Cauldron could mean and what to do next, Nikolai detached himself from the group and strode over to his rooms for a second of silence of the aftermath, lingering in the refuge of the shadows. He felt weary and exhausted, imagining how he must look. It was the footsteps echoing behind him that stirred him out of his thoughts. Without looking over his shoulder, Nikolai shoved his slightly trembling fists into the pockets of his jacket. “Quite the show, wasn’t it?”
To say she was on edge after the day’s events was an understatement. She was under strict orders, of course, to look after Era and Nikolai, a job that came easily when she already cared so much for her High Lord and his sister. Her hand had instantly shot to the blades at her hip and she’d spun around, using her wings to block any view the other courts would have Nikolai’s form on the ground while Draco and Era tried to awake him. Nevertheless, she seemed to startle a few people with the look in her eyes but how could anyone, fae or not be surprised by her actions? He was her High Lord, her friend above all and something had happened to him.
After being assured that he was fine and they watched as Nikolai excused himself from the room Asteria offered to follow after if even just act as a guard of sorts. Slipping into the room behind the dark-haired male she nodded silently. “That’s a rather calm way of putting it. How are you feeling, Nik? Honestly.”

highlordnikolai:
The shocked exclaim of a familiar voice had a smile creeping across Nikolai’s face. Yes, he had been doing his duties and running the rounds of introducing himself to the different courts members and sharing chats with the other High Lords, so conversation was heavily thrown on him left and right. Something about hearing the voice of someone he knew, however, had him feeling more at ease than he had all night. Asteria was a childhood friend, with her father a general in his father’s army. Only a year apart, they were practically raised together until Asteria was ripped away to the Illyrian camps and they had only seen each other over the decades in passing - with her being preparing for the Blood Rite over the years and himself at the heels of his father being taught High Lord responsibilities, life simply took the two in separate paths from one another.
Being his brother’s second, he can still lividly remember the day he finally sat face to face with her and asked her to become apart of his Inner Circle; one can only be so safe having the Commander of his Illyrian forces beside him, after all. “Scared you?” He cocked an eyebrow although he did not move from his position, returning his gaze upon the throne of his. “Ah, you would be surprised some do. Humans aren’t as black and white as we once thought in the past. Has my brother bothered you so much you ran away at the first chance? I don’t blame you,” Nikolai teased halfheartedly. “I bet he’s hunting for Era or I as we speak.”
Nikolai was one of the few people in this world that Ria liked being in the company of. Though she was only a year older, it felt like he took the role of an almost big, brother, and they’d grown up together playing in Velaris or at the palace while their parents were in meetings. That, of course, changed when her father insisted she begin her training, and things changed. Her resentment toward Nikolai had grown while in the camps. Not once had he come into the camp, but his father had to assess his own troops. Though they’d never really gotten the chance to talk about life when they’d been parted, she knew holding on to such a grudge wouldn’t help her.
“Hardly scared me. You might be my High Lord, but you don’t scare me, Nik,” she says with a snort. “More like surprised. I didn’t think anyone would be in here- most people are at the feast still brown-nosing,” she says with a smirk. “That’s true, I suppose I just didn’t give it much thought. I don’t really like to think of them as most of our matters don’t usually concern them.” With a roll of her eyes, Asteria moved across the room gazing at all the thrones. “He asked me to keep an eye on you and Era, yes. But I told him I was stepping out. Not just disappearing like yours truly.”

Era sighed. She should have expected Asteria to be watching somewhere in the shadows. She was relatively sure that Draco had given her explicit directions to do precisely that. “They are particularly distracted this evening for obvious reasons.” She rolled her eyes. “It’s strange being under this mountain. It is so different from back home.” The Hewn City. The monstrous palace that the rest of Prythian believed the Night Court to be. The place that Era had become queen of. “They’re all pompous, ass-kissing, idiots, and I’ve already grown entirely bored of them. I’m dreading even attempting the rest of the meetings. How are you enjoying yourself? Draco making you work too hard?”
“Indeed they are, and technically so are you, otherwise you would’ve noticed I’d tailed you a long time ago,” she said flicking her hair over one shoulder. “I’m only doing my job Era, so I’m sorry if my presence... bothers you in some way.” she says with a shrug. Taking a drink from her goblet, the girl nods. “I know, it is different, much too grand I think. And everyone here are all speaking for their own personal gain right now, which is irritating seeing as the purpose of everyone being together was for us to talk about what the hell is going on, not to flaunt how powerful and rich they all are.” with a roll of her eyes Asteria stood beside the girl and studied the room. “I’m not really one for gatherings like this and considering this is more of a working thing than it is for leisure... I’d say It’s not that bad.”

“I think the humans are more shocked then the fae.” He remarked, though he couldn’t blame them. Draco had never met a human before - born after the previous war, he had never had reason to run into one until now, but based on what he’d heard, he wasn’t entirely taken by surprise when many seemed to cower away from them. “I can’t determine if setting ourselves up to look so… vicious will play out in our favor yet or not.”
Sighing at the news that his sister was spending her evening eavesdropping, he rose a hand to pinch the bridge of his nose. Between Nikolai irritating another High Lord (intentionally or not he had yet to find out), and Era sticking her nose into everyone’s business, they were certainly living up to their reputation. “Cauldron save us.” He muttered. “Have you socialized at all, or has most of your evening been spent keeping track of those two?”
“I’d say so. One of the human queens just about ran away from me when I went to get a drink. That’s alright though, I’d rather they be afraid than they think they can pull a fast one on anyone here. It makes them think twice before they act.” she says with a shrug. Nodding in agreement she brushes a hair behind her ear, “It’s expected of us, so if anything we’re just giving them no reason to suspect anything else. I could care less if the humans think we were somehow involved. Regardless of how we look, they know Nikolai is hardly the worst of the bunch. If anything I’d point my sights on the High Lord of Autumn. He just looks suspicious.” she says lowly.
The girl laughed quietly at Draco’s frustration, she knew how careful he was of his interactions but his siblings, while they cared- didn’t use as much caution. “ If I’m being honest, I really would rather only speak with you three. Besides, you’re the one who just told me to watch them, and Nikolai told me the same so no, I haven’t really socialized.”

Asteria prefers her leathers or any outfit that keeps her out of a dress. She likes being able to move quickly at any given moment and seeing as she spent most of her life training, dresses and skirts weren’t something she wore often.
She as cut on her upper lip, but she doesn’t mind it because she thinks it makes people think twice before they mess with her. She also has scars on her back, that criss-cross over her entire back. They are tender to touch and she won’t wear things that expose her back since she’s ashamed of them and the unnecessary attention they bring.

Asteria might be a tough cookie to all those who might come in contact with her, but naturally, there is another side to her that she keeps hidden for only those she is intimate with. Her normally poised and straightforward nature is washed away and she allows herself to be doted on and will express more vulnerable thoughts and feelings than she would normally.

Asteria remembers the moment that she was told they’d be going Under the Mountain. It hadn’t come as much of a surprise, and still, somehow she’d secretly hoped that she’d get to avoid it- in favor of staying behind to look after Velaris. But she supposed, with the rest of the Inner Circle staying behind, it would be necessary for her to go as Draco’ Second and the High Lord’s commander. Since they’d arrived, she hadn’t had a single moment to herself- which didn’t come as a surprise, but tonight for whatever reason had her on edge. After spending most of the evening doing rounds to check on Era, Nikolai and keeping her eye on various other High Lords, she’d excused herself to the balconies.
The one that she found was one of the few that wasn’t connected to a High Lord’s suite, and she stepped outside, settling on one of the chairs and let herself full relax, head falling back against the cushions, and breathing in the night air. Unbeknownst to her, someone had come outside as well and it took several long moments of silence before she felt the need to open her eyes, gazing at them. “Need an escape from the feast as well, huh?”

highlordnikolai:
The arrangements of this meeting had been exchanged back and forth with the High Lord’s and so many of the High Fae more times than he can remember that when it had finally come in a blink of an eye - a meeting so highly gossiped amongst the courts, so nitpicked and detailed, it almost felt like it was never going to happen. It was obvious not everybody could be pleased, of course. Nonetheless, it had arrived. He had long ago lost his siblings to the crowd of people and found himself in the throne room, staring at the intricately detailed seating arrangements and the noticeably rather dull thrones of the royal humans. The comparison was stark, just as was each throne with each different design and color. How many people had gathered here before us and spoke in these seats regarding similar matters? His thoughts were disrupted however when he felt the presence of a body enter the room and stalk up beside him.
“ We really know how to welcome the humans, hm?” The Night Lord mused with a smile. “ The comparison is just really thoughtful. ”
Asteria needed a breath of fresh air. Being under the mountain was one thing, but to be stuffed in a room with so many royals, and constantly being on alert in case someone decided to make a move against her High Lord. After alerting Draco that she was stepping out to wander she went on her way enjoying the quiet. She noticed one of the doors of the rooms was just slightly ajar, and out of natural curiosity stepped inside, finding that it was more of a large meeting room with various thrones. It was easy to see which belonged to their court, the dark obsidian with black and gold accents was clearly one that Nikolai would sit in, and she would sit beside him in a small chair, but not nearly as grand. A voice broke her from her thoughts and she came to realize she wasn’t the only one in the room. “Nikolai.” she said mostly surprised, a hand coming up to her chest, as he’d surprised her. “We do, yes. Not that they care that everyone is trying too hard.” she says with a smirk.

“i asked if you were having a party. i didn’t tell you to have a party.”
“this is the opposite of what i told you to do.”
“well, it’s the thought that counts.”
“wait, no, don’t take kissing away from me.”
“okay, where are all my jumpers?”
“oh, you’ve started stealing my socks now?”
“yeah, okay, but i’m cooler.”
“you owe me a kiss.”
“how did you get in here?”
“for starters, that’s impossible.”

“i’m not playing truth or dare.”
“you’re not very intimidating.”
“i love you.”

“that was, by far, the stupidest thing you’ve ever done.”
“why don’t you take a picture? it’ll last longer.”

“why the hell is there glitter everywhere?”
“well, i’m pretty irresistible.”
“how much money would you give me to flip this table, right here, right now, in the middle of class?”
“detention? again?”

“why don’t you just go?”
“no, it’s not like that.”
“if you cared about me, you wouldn’t do this.”
“it doesn’t matter anymore.”
“what’s the point?”
“fuck you.”
“you should’ve said that yesterday.”
“don’t lie to me.”
“i swear, if you say another word, i’ll leave.”
“change in mind or change in heart?”
“it’s over, it’s done, just leave it be.”
“why do you keep bringing it up?”
“we can’t go back in time, so stop trying to reverse what you said.”
“you say you’ll stop, but then you keep doing it!”
“maybe in another world.”
“why are you like this?”
“stop making empty promises!”
“what about us?”
“don’t say that.”
“i’m done. we’re done.”’
