TBT: it will still take a lifetime of practice for me to even come close to my idea of creative fulfillment, but I’ll always pride myself in that fact that I never listened to my ninth-grade art teacher when she told me that my drawings were “too cartoonish” (which wasn't exactly helpful constructive criticism for a young learner slash emotionally-fragile Pinay), and kept drawing/creating anyway. Her parents probably never hung her art work on the fridge as a child.

I forgot who what when where and why I was there, but I do remember falling in love with adobada fries, and Jen earnestly asking this big question with an overbearing inflection that cuts almost every scatterbrained 22/23 year-old to the core: “Aisa, what DO you WANT to DO for the REST of your LIFE?" And I knew I would be guilt-ridden if I didn’t say my major at the time. But it felt safe because "travel the world and make a living” seemed like an impossibility–the type of dream job wasted on 2AM journal entries and windowsill reveries.
Now here we are.

Personally, birthdays have become less about hyping up one day of the year and more about making every day count ( always grateful for each revolution around the sun, tho). I think back to the time I actually got a microscope for Christmas when I was 7/8 (NERD) and finally explored the big three (NYC, LA, CHI) as a reminder that I’ve been spoiled by material things as a child and continuously spoiled by experiences as an adult with a universal roulette of positive and negative in-between. No complaints here, life is good.
Also, learned that Man in The Mirror was indeed the number one song on March 21, 1988 ( and not Never Gonna Give You Up [no longer rick-rolled at birth ] ) and two new Dave Chappelle specials will be released today, so yeeee happy birthday to meee. Simple things are happy things.

Siah meeting his little sister for the first time. Can’t blame yung jay-z for chillin’ in the womb–she knew what kind of world she’d be crying into and wanted to stay in a place where her rights were still protected lol but srsly she’s beautiful–hella congrats to her super co-creators for the latest cute and chunky edition to their growing family.
