Frustrated, he glanced up at her, shaking his head. "It wasn't a question." He sighed out, fists clenched. "You shouldn't be afraid of me in the first place." It felt so strange demanding to someone how he wasn't meant to be viewed in such a negative term. He had been stuck in apathy for so long he had almost forgotten what emotional pain felt like. "Please."
Her eyes flicked up to his for a fraction of a second, but it felt like an eternity. The cold look plastered across his features made her teeth sink down into her lower lip. “Max.” Sighing his name, it felt strange rolling off her tongue. She hadn’t spoken it in so long. “I can’t.”

He furrowed his brows, shooting her a crooked smile. "Define when." Max chuckled, attempting to lighten up the conversation. "Tell me how it goes afterwards. I'm on a job."
"That’ll be easy.. I’m good at making friends when I need to." She shrugs, a smirk plastered on her lips. "Erm.. Well, I can’t say I’ve made many friends in this place. But then again nobody seems harmful enough to call a friend.”

At that moment, he felt relief sprinkled with a teaspoon of joy. He didn't want to argue--not for the very first time. He just wanted to hold her in his arms and wipe his sadness away on a piece of cloth; but it wasn't that easy, it would only allow his enemies to see him bleed. Max gave her a cold look, feeling his heart clench as he did so. He could only hold it so long before he looked away from him, glancing blankly at the shiny marble floor. "It's your move now."
"You don’t get to do this to me. Not again." It wasn’t fair, he couldn’t do this to her. Not once did she ever tell him he could have her heart in his hands. And not one single time did she give him permission to drop it on the floor.

"I don't doubt that." His heart raced. He could have only hoped she didn't mean that because he swore he could feel his heart tearing apart with a tinge of sorrow flowing within his veins. Nobody hurt him. He hated her.
"Yeah, yeah. And you can join Elizabeth in hell. I never left the world, I left your world. And I intend to keep it that way.”

"Soon." He clarified with a smile that quickly faded. Max turned back to her, stuffing his hands in his jacket. "But for now, I'd focus on making friends. Or--friends? I wouldn't call them that, but they might just come in handy when the moment is right."
"Don’t be cruel now, yes I’m asking you." She raises a brow as he turns. She couldn’t put the pieces together, her life became a puzzle with a missing piece and she didn’t know why. "Yet? —Soon.. Right?"

"And I am just another monster that parents tell their kids about at night, but I'll save you the worry and simply welcome you back to the world."
"I’m human, Max, I have emotions. And I am afraid. I’m afraid of you. And what you do to me.”

"Bullshit? I never thought you'd be afraid."
"Talk to you about it? Oh that’s hilarious. You know, I’d believe you, but we’ve been down this road before. So I call bullshit."

"You're asking me?" He squinted at her briefly, turning away shortly afterwards. "Take a breather. That's all you need. I can't get you out of here yet."
"Get me out of here, I’m asking you to get me out of this place right now.. I can’t handle much more of these insane people, Max. Everyone thinks they know who I am but I know none of them."

"Cheap move. You could have talked to me about it; I've gained a little sympathy believe it or not."
“Nah. Of course it did, that was kind of the point — nobody followed me.”

"Do you? I except little to nothing of you, mostly after that stupid stunt you pulled. That sounded like a suicide letter."
"I’m sorry, you don’t expect me to care, do you?"

"I wonder why that would be, Elizabeth."
"Hopefully not. There’s enough people that infuriate me residing here."
