Morana /Marzanna/ - slavic goddess of winter and death. In slavic rites the death of goddess Morana at the end of the winter becomes rebirth of spring
Every year in March, polish kids make marzanna dolls and do procession to the nearest river just to throw her effigy to water. After this ritual the spring begans and winter ends.
