Before meeting Carina, Maya didn't see marriage or babies in the picture with anyone. Their relationship had been rocky, to say the least and they had had many ups and downs throughout the years but the love that Maya had for Carina was like nothing she had experienced. It was a special type of love. It was the type of love that meant that Maya wanted it all, and was willing to give her her all because that was what they both deserved. It was a journey that they had been on. Maya had been on a journey of finding herself and so far, she feels she had done that with the help of Carina. Maya was seeing things differently than what she had done, for example, her relationship with her father, or what she wanted career wise, Carina helped her with it all.
Lately, Maya hadn't been herself, and she knew that and could feel it deep down. The loss of her captaincy on the same day as them getting married, it felt like she wasn't allowed anything good to happen to her. What started as a great day, marrying the love of her life and everything falling into place, got taken away from her. So, for a while, Maya had been thinking about that, and thinking of ways to get her captaincy back. It was taking its toll on their marriage and she was beginning to see that. It felt like Carina dreaded coming home some nights and so, lately, Maya had made some small changes to make sure that Carina knew it wasn't her main priority. Their marriage, and their future was her priority. With all that was going on with Miller's daughter, Pru, it brought her to her realisation and Maya just wanted for things to be okay.
The topic of kids was a touchy subject for the two of them, and Carina had backed of a lot when it came to it. With Carina hanging out at the station a lot more and being with Pru, Maya could see how much Carina wanted this. She loved seeing her with children and if she was honest, she wanted it with Carina. It was her job that night to let Carina know how she was feeling about the topic and they could go from there. No matter how hard her day had been, she wanted to make Carina's just as good too, but it seemed the Italian had gotten there first and was already winning at that.
Walking over behind Carina, Maya stood on her tiptoes and tasted some of the sauce from the spoon, a groan following as soon as the taste touched her lips. "It's better than okay. You know, just the taste of that can make anyones day a good day." Maya laughed and stood off to the side to allow her to do her thing. "How was your day? Was it okay? You're home earlier than what I thought you would be."

Getting married was a big deal to Maya because she never thought that it was on the cards for her or if she would find someone who loved her enough to want to marry her. In life, she always focused on her work. It was something she got because of her father and the non stop graft that she had to put in to get to where she is now. It all started with the olympics and now here she was. Maya had not long found out that she had been demoted and was no longer captain something she had worked hard to get to. However, it did take the pressures off certain things which isn't something she was going to admit to just yet.
It seemed that from the moment her and Carina got married, things went down hill in her job. Andy was in another station, Maya was no longer captain and things didn't feel the same anymore. Though one thing that she will be forever thankful for is her wife.
Recently the conversation between the two of them was children. Maya didn't see herself being a mother and yet Carina was relatively set on the idea. They had had their talks about it and Maya made it clear that right now in her life, she wasn't ready for that, and she didn't know if she ever would be. For Carina though, she told her that they could come back to the topic of conversation later on in life. Maya wanted things to be more set in stone in her life before she changed her mind on things.
In more recent times, Maya and the team had gotten used to Dean's daughter hanging around the station every so often. Maya watched the heartbreak for Ben and Miranda and all the things that they are currently going through following the death of Miller and all that has gone on. However, Maya slowly and surely got used to the idea of wanting kids. Carina wanted them and for that reason, Maya allowed herself to think about the possiblity of having children. It had been playing on her mind but not enough for her to bring it up in a conversation with Carina. However, that day, Maya seemed to be thinking about it more than usual.
Things at the station had been strange lately, and Maya couldn't put her finger on it. She knew that with Dean's death that they would all be down and thinking about the team member that they lost, but Maya was just looking forward to getting home that night and not feeling just as tense as she had been feeling that whole day. As Maya arrived outside the front door, she lifted her hand up to open it and she stepped inside before closing the door behind her. Walking further in she could smell the food cooking and a smile was brought to her face when she approached the kitchen and leaned against the doorframe, waiting to see if Carina would notice her.

Babies, or kids, just wasn't something that Maya could see herself having. She wanted to, for Carina's sake but she hadn't allowed herself to really think about it ever since Carina had brought it up. Brushing it off just seemed like the easiest thing to do but they were married, and it always seemed like the next step in life, was kids. It felt like there was something wrong with Maya to not want them, or to not sit down and really think about what she wanted because she always found it that little bit easier just to say that she didn't want them. Her main focus was becoming captain again, and really feeling comfortable in her job.
Carina needed her after Andrews' death, and Maya was there the best that she could. It was the least that she could do, and given that she wasn't the best at dealing with grief and strong emotions, Maya thought she was doing a relatively good job at dealing with her girlfriend. So much so, that though she felt like she could have been better, this was the best Maya had been at dealing with such situations and it just showed her that Carina was the one that she wanted to be with, and wanted to go through all these emotions with. Then, when Carina was facing deportation, it seemed like it was a good idea to suggest marriage. Much to Carina's avail. Maya didn't think it was going to go down well, but after a little bit of time, the two got married.
As of lately, everything that could have went wrong, went wrong and Maya wasn't focusing on what she should have been focusing on. Maya should have been focusing on the fact that her and Carina were just married, and basking in the greatness that came with that. However, with her loosing her captaincy and then Miller's death, she really had a lot to deal with. Dean was a friend of Maya's, and it was difficult to see her other friend, Vic, struggling at coming to terms with his death. For a while there, her priority hadn't been on Carina.
With all of this going on, Maya watched from the sidelines on Ben and Miranda and the way that they fought over Pru and the love that they had to give that little girl. It allowed for her to get closer to her, and learn what it was like to have kids given that all of the station looked after her, and looked out for her. It was also a nice excuse to have Carina around her work more often, and watching her wife looking Pru, it did sway Maya, and the more time she spent with the little girl, the more she began to think about her future with Carina, and what could happen.
This wasn't something that Maya was wanting to vocalise just yet. She wanted to confirm the feelings that she was feeling before telling Carina that she had changed her mind and actually wanted kids. It was a big thing, and Maya was thankful that Carina had actually given her time to think it all over.
Even on the way home, Maya had been thinking about it all, and for the first time in so long, thinking about kids, it brought a smile upon her face and she knew that she was making the right decision. Things really were getting back on track for the two of them, and Maya always looked forward to coming home at night to see her wife. Tonight was no different. Upon walking into the house, another smile was brought onto her face as the smell of food wafted through the house and then she felt her wife's arms snake around her waist. "Mm, whats brought this on huh? What did i do to deserve this?" Maya laughed softly before kissing her lips. "Someone has been busy."

The gym was the one place that Maya had been able to get her frustrations out in recently. The last thing she wanted to do was stress out her wife anymore by going home and being in the mood she was in, and so, here she was, and she was surprised to see that Carina had passed by the station.
Just as she was about to lift the weights above her head, she heard Carina speak up and opted to move towards the treadmill so that nothing happened. "Oh come on, you're good at all this stuff too."
After a long day at work, Carina walks into the station to find @atenacioushero. She bumps into Travis who informs her that she’s in the gym, so she goes up and leans on the doorframe, watching as Maya lifts weights.
Biting gently on her bottom lip, Carina raised her brows. β€œHow do you make that look so easy?”
