I think the 16-color palette collaged vector style is superior, but it's deceptively time consuming, deceptively large res in size, too intricate and too computer intensive to make. I've come to the conclusion that it's not suitable for a comic, and at the rate I was going, it would have taken about a decade to complete.

I need the style to be as quick to render as it takes for me to write, so the newer style, which is a 4-color palette in a 220px by 220px resolution, is much more manageable. I'm very sad to lose color, but I had to make the compromise. Maybe I can explore colour in different ways down the line, drawing inspiration from old Macintosh games and stuff.

angela collier's video on sexual assault in astronomy & physics is such a beautiful work that stuns me with its simultaneous rational inhuman detachment and deep deep empathy, the part where she mentions that the mixed signals of being a past rapist who keeps being welcomed back & then scorned is actually extremely damaging to these men and we should also give them a clear "you're out" message for THEIR sake so they can lead a normal life outside of any mentoring position is just like, how could she possibly have dared to say that, it's such a good video.

anyways I forgot what the point of this post was for a bit but I'll get back on track. there's this heartbreaking part at the end where she asks herself if she can really encourage women to enter science, knowing what's going to happen to them. I think this is a generalizable thought for many issues, like how can we encourage desegregation if it'll lead to people being killed, obviously it's something that needs to happen but how are we ever going to be able to select who will die on the front lines?

my tiny personal version of this dillema is just... can I encourage transfems to be out online. like can I tell people to subject themselves to evils they didn't think were possible, can I tell people to give up their privacy and dignity forever. obviously someone's gotta, I don't know.
