Controversial Idea ‼️

We all think Bob is the bad guy and all but he was also just a teenager? Teenagers who have high hormones and are dramatic about everything. And on top of that he was drunk. Not only this but he was constantly craving for his parents to not praise him but discipline him. Plus the greasers are always mad because the Socs are jumping greasers they think they’re better, only teenagers because they’re all jerks. People still get jumped by people who think they’re superior like it’s not that surprising. 

So now let’s craft this all together. Bob was a teenager who craved his parents to not see him as perfect. So he goes drinking like half the teenagers do. Then his girlfriend rejects him and goes to hang out with another guy. That would put me in a bad mood, plus teenagers always have to be extra dramatic about it. So him being drunk, dramatic, and still wanting to do something bad, would lead to the recipe for trying to drown Ponyboy.

Am I saying that Johnny shouldn’t have stabbed Bob? No, it was self defense and who knows what would happen if he didn’t. Am I saying that Cherry is the problem? No, she was just doing what she felt right and hanging out with Pony wasn’t even in a flirtatious way but platonic.

I’m just saying Bob was a teenager like everyone else. And teenagers are reckless and hormonal and unreasonable. Maybe we shouldn’t fully paint him as the bad guy for being like everyone else.
