i have a special place in my heart for modern!luffy. he’s just like a silly guy.

he has closed bug terrariums all over his room, and he uses a crappy iphone 8 ace handed down to him, with too many games and about half of his storage taken up by pictures of anything and everything. he’s a giant eco activist, basically befriended everyone in the community through all the rallies, protests, and events he attends. he’s mexican and in love with the culture, he spends half his holidays in mexico with his stepmom (croc?) and he’s also friends with like everyone, so cue monthly quinces. wanna say he’s also the type of kid to not have a backpack, regardless of how his school keeps requesting he brings one. and he does have one, ace and garp and sabo made sure he did, but somehow it always disappears?

he’s a huge adventurer, he drags the strawhats to abandoned places every new one he finds, and he’s been caught for trespassing about a trillion times. he probably has his face plastered around half the stores and restaurants in his town for being a menace in general, but everyone loves him so they all ignore it (even the owners that plastered his face there).

he runs a club at his school, like a mesh of all his interests in one and simply wanting to have fun. strawhats are all apart of it, and as an extension also apart of every aspect of his life, even if they swore on their soul they would not intertwine themselves even more with this spunky kid outside of school. so now they’re being dragged to all his favorite abandoned places, and to all these quinces, and holidays, and not to mention everything else and above this kid has to offer (oddly including family reunions)

and everyone else in their life has to deal with it. zeff wants sanji to work during the summer? have fun wrestling him out of luffy’s grip when he wants sanji to come explore with them. zoro’s been condemned to summer school? luffy argues with the principal for an hour straight, and it like somehow works (???) and like. so much more.

Summary:

Sanji doesn't know what's the worst part of meeting his forty year-old self: finding out that he's going to lose a finger, or realizing he won't be over Zoro after two whole decades. Oh, wait. The worst part is that both facts are connected.

Set right after the Rainbow Mist filler from the anime (pre-time skip), then post canon

There’s a man kneeling on the Merry’s deck, curled into himself. He’s holding his left hand away from his body, so the blood coming from where his ring finger should be can drip freely onto the wood. His wavy blonde hair reaches his shoulders, and Sanji knows who he is the moment he sees a curly eyebrow and a blue eye locks on him. The man’s left eye is hidden by his hair. All things considered, this man can be considered young, but he’s clearly much older than Sanji. He’s still running and hiding from his past. Maybe he’ll still be covering half of his face when he’s sixty, eighty, a fucking corpse. Sanji stands frozen at the door to the galley as the crew starts gathering around this other version of himself. Read on Ao3
