“An open letter to all the crazy, unconventional ones”
I feel like I have failed—there’s so much I want to do on my own, so many that I want to know; and for so long, have I wanted to escape from my gruesome, monotonous reality. I had never expected this phase of my life to come; but what is life other than a series of unexpected disappointments.
Things don’t always turn out the way you hope them to. That’s the beauty of it. It keeps surprising you, so that you never get bored. But the greatest trial of this game is to manage to remain buoyant- no matter how marvellous things are at one point, the next thing you know, you’ll be sulking in utter disbelief- but you have to break through and emerge as a better human being; happier, brighter, greater.
It’s a massive wave, for all I can say. It comes crashing into you right in your face. You see it from a distance and you know you’ll be shaken, so you close your eyes, you press your toes firmly into the soft sand with all the strength you can muster, and you hope to stand tall at the end of it. And sometimes you do, but sometimes you don’t.
If you don’t, you always have the opportunity to get back up-to ignore the pain of your wounds, to appreciate your scars, to pride yourself of your acquisitions, to be grateful to whoever’s helped you to be on your own. Do not ever get consumed by your trivialities, instead, know that they are part of the subjective human experience. Learn to see them for what they truly are-mere distractions that life throws at you, to test you.
Do not let others dictate your reality—create your own, a better one. Do not allow people to owe them your silence. Be confident and speak your mind, for someone has already said, “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."
The sad actuality of life around the world is that almost everyone you encounter, anywhere, will try to limit you to their idea of “freedom”. Now many that find themselves in this situation will eventually give up to this deranged idea/belief of majority of the society. But some; those crazy ones with an insane amount of passion, desirous of everything; and who yearn for a life that no one has ever lived before, will often find themselves lonely—isolated from the rest, squandering both time and life; as they are given no respect or the support they’ve been longing for.
Stereotyped as “foolish, unpredictable and reckless” by the society, they are absolutely shattered. These poor empathetic souls have been stepped on, disrespected, neglected by the people who once were their closest. By this point, their forever racing minds, their hunger for knowledge, their need to be filled with adrenaline, all have been shut down. They’ve become the person that they never wanted to know.
School has always been dreadful for them, it never filled their curiosity. Instead, school like a monster, grabbed them but their hair in mid air, ignored their authenticity and forced on them countless mundane tasks that in no way honoured them as an individual. It sucked up their energy, it made them feel like they were never good enough. It disregarded their creativity, it never appreciated their overall knowledge, integrity, sensitivity and enthusiasm. It made them feel impotent and futile.
But you guys, you crazy ones, you go through it all but still don’t give up. You are the bravest people the world will ever know, you have capabilities and talents that the world will never fully acknowledge—partly because they’ll all be jealous, and partly because they never had the guts to create their own destinies. Your passion is admirable, your leadership never failed anybody. Your empathy is cherished, you strength, incomparable, and your love, your love is the only love people will ever know.
So go out there I tell you. Be free, be yourself however that may be. Take a risk with your choices, be kind to everyone who tries to break you. Do whatever you’ve always wanted to do and don’t listen to anyone who tries to tell you that you’re not worth it. Put yourself out in the world for everyone to see your miracle and magic; for all of them will be left in awe.
