Hey, imagine, you're Big Bro's other half.

Usually, he doesn't come home for the night. For obvious reasons. As a marine, he's obligated to sleep at the marine's barracks, in case of emergencies and stuff.

But sometimes, he gets a day or two off the job, and he gets to come home to you. He even gets to sleep in the next morning! He'll let himself do some oversleep because you're there and he can relax. Those are special days to him, no amount of hard work will be worth the trouble if he can't even have that.

And you know he's there, and he will be there, with you, in your shared bed, because he's always home by dusk. Whenever you can, you'll meet him halfway so you can go look at the sunset, like the cutesy couple you are, holding hands as you tell one another about whatever you did while you two were apart.

But still. Every time you wake up, and he's right next to you...

You can't help yourself but get all giddy with a big, toothy grin on your face. Because it makes you so happy to have him all to you, even if just for a day or two.

So you slowly turn your body to face him, if you weren't already, and you silently look at his sleeping face. Listening to his light snores.

You don't often catch him talking in his sleep, except when you're awake and he's still deep in slumber.

Usually, it's just a whisper of your name. Sometimes, it's your nickname instead. You snicker when that happens.

And then there was this time.

When you woke up, you were already facing him, and he was holding you in his arms, still asleep, as always.

You smiled at this soft moment, completely enamoured with this guy.

He started grumbling a bit between snores. You heard an approximation of your name, too. Then another snore, one more grumble, and then-

"Marry... me... Grrm..."

He went back to soft snores.

While your heart was pounding and your cheeks burning. He was still sleeping. Your big, sweet, clumsy idiot of a marine boyfriend. Who had asked for you to marry him in his sleep. Still fast asleep.

Literally dreaming of marrying you.

How did you miraculously manage to not wake him up with a warm hug and a huge kiss? You still have no idea.

Not too long afterwards, he had barely opened his eyes that he felt your nose touching his, soon followed by your lips, and he leaned into you with a smile as you kissed.

"Good morning to you, too", he greeted you with a raspy voice.

"Do you remember what you were dreaming about?" you immediately asked with an innocent smirk.

He looked at you. He stared at the ceiling. Something seemed to come back to him.

"Did I... say something in my sleep?" he hesitantly wondered as he looked back at your hardly concealed grin.

His cheeks had gained a bit of colour.

"Maybe~"

"It wasn't something embarrassing, right?"

When you didn't answer despite your smile, he groaned as he buried himself under the bedsheets, hugging you and hiding his face by pressing his nose onto your chest.

"What were you even dreaming about?" you chuckled at his sudden shyness, wrapping your arms around his head. You started playing with his hair. He loved whenever you did that.

"You..." he eventually admitted.

"I'm flattered~ Was I doing anything special?"

"You weren't. I was."

"And what were you doing?" you asked softly, your voice now a whisper.

"I was..." he had lowered his voice to match yours. "I was asking you something."

You didn't question him further, waiting for him to go on.

He came back from under the covers to look into your eyes.

"Was it what you heard me say?"

"I don't know. I won't if you don't ask me again."

He lowered his gaze, thinking.

He didn't want to ask. Not while you were in bed, of all places. He had planned to make that question special, at least more than it would have been if he had just done it at home. He didn't know how he wanted to do it yet, but he wasn't expecting to do it like a spur of the moment thing... or in his sleep.

His eyes darted back to your face. Your soft smile. Your own eyes showing a sort of glint, as in silent anticipation. Like you were glad, already...

He sighed, eyes closed, frustrated at himself. His brother would laugh at him later, when he'd tell him about how things happened, for sure.

But when he opened his eyes again, he was smiling at you. He knew what your answer would be, anyway. He had already asked, after all.

"Will you marry me?"

Shinazugawa Genya x Reader (Angst Warning)

She was there, behind that Upper Moon One, penetrating her swords from his behind and tried to burn him down inside. She looked at where Genya was hiding and readying to fire his bullets.

"Now!!"

It all happened quickly.

As quickly as Kokushibou unleashed his true demon power.

She was there, injured. Her left stomach was wide opened but not deep. Kokushibou did it. But she didn't loosen her grip as much as she hated him right now.

But now, the power almost left her body.

She saw Genya upper body splitted, and he crashed on the ground. Her eyes were widened. It was like a slow motion, like all of around their world was stopped for a second.

His name was echoed thorough the room. The terror sound, the anxious shout, everything was mixed and poured into one emotional feelings.

Pure rage.

She screamed Genya's name from the top of her lung and pushed her blade more inside him.

"I WILL NOT FORGIVE YOU!"

When Genya's Blood Demon Art activated, She, Himejima and Sanemi didn't waste their time. She used her breathing technique to screw Kokushibou's blood upside down, making him bleeding more.

"Shinazugawa! Don't pull your attacks!! Drive him into the ground! (Name)!! Keep penetrating your sword like that!! Bleed him more!"

"Tokitou and Genya gave their lives! We can't let it be in vain!!"

Sanemi's shout was ringing on her ears.

When sword jutted out from his body, her body was pierced onto her shoulder.

But she didn't care, she swore until her last blood drip, she will not let go her blade.

It was fast, so fast she couldn't react after their attacks. They gave him continuous attacks, not letting him regenerating.

After his defeat, she just sat there and watched Kokushibou crumbled into ash. The exhausted feeling attacked her nowhere.

But than, reality snapped her fast. She ran to Genya's body, didn't care for her own wounds. Bloods dripped from her left.

"GENYA!"

She brought him onto her laps. Tears were flowing from her eyes. She panicked when blood gushing out from his body.

"What should I do?! Genya, tell me!!!, should I feed you more with-"

"There's... No need..."

"No! No! You will recover right?! Like always!! Like-"

"....(name)...Stop..."

He moved his dismembered arms, trying to cup her cheek, but of course he couldn't.

"I'm at... My limit... Please... Treat... Your wound..."

"Himejima-san! Please! Please! Is there any way to save him?!" She said that while Himejima moving Sanemi's body onto Genya's side.

"...I don't know." Himejima shook his head. "It's miracle that Genya still talked to you."

"Genya! You promised me! You promised me that you will become a Pillar! Please don't leave me! Genya!!!" She desperately trying to save him, even though she didn't know how.

"I'm... Sorry...Nii-chan... Was alive... Thank you... For not...giving up..."

Her raspy voice was heard by Sanemi.

Genya's body started to crumble in dust. She trembled and covered her mouth with her hand.

She sat there with blank eyes while Sanemi rambled about his brother, that he's not his burden, that Genya was sorry to Sansmi because he told him he's a murderer.

"DON'T DIE ON ME! You should've married and being happy with her but instead-!"

"Nii-chan... Stop... I'm sorry... I just wanted to protect you like you protect me.... We're brothers after all ... Be happy... And you too... I'm sorry I didn't ... Keep my promise..."

"... Because...Nii-chan and you... Are the nicest person..."

And there, he disappeared, dissolved into the dust like a demon. His brother screamed his name.

But she just sat there looked down, looked at Genya's uniform fabric. Her tears even not streaming anymore.

It felt empty.

It's not fair, it's unfair.

This is cruel, she even didn't have his body to embrace, didn't have something to be buried or burned.

Even the idea of Genya's funeral already haunted on her mind. But it's the reality. Genya will not be there for her anymore, they will not train together anymore, she couldn't tease or laugh with him anymore.

Inside her mind was solid dark.

"Let's go. This will not over until we defeated Muzan."

Sanemi stood up while clenching his grip on Genya's uniform. He was ready to leave when he noticed she didn't move from her place.

More like, she wanted to move, but the exhausting state already took her over. She used her sword to propped her stand.

But it's useless

"Shinazugawa-san... Himejima-san... Please leave me here, I will just become a burden."

What is the point of living now anyway?

"Don't say something stupid like that." Sanemi squatted in front of her. "Hold this." He shoved Genya's uniform onto her embrace. He sutured her wound quickly. He readied his back for her to hop on. "Come on, quick. Muzan won't wait for us."

She made hard effort to climbed on his back. He finally could get use to piggy back her. Three of them walked and ran away from that place.

She still hugged that uniform. Sanemi looked from the corner of his eyes.

"It's not funny when you get killed if I left you there and met Genya right after he died. Save your rage to Muzan."

She brought his uniform onto her hug even more and crying while burying her face into the fabric.

The last scent. This is the last scent she could smell from Genya.

"Genya... Good bye..."

+ About and P.A.Q. (Possibly Asked Questions)

Q: How did this come to be? This came into my mind as I was thinking about my Jujutsu Kaisen Original Character, Shiori Yamada. She is from my JJK Canon Compliant fanfic, Sand and Snow. I thought: what if she came to Jujutsu High years after the events of Sand and Snow? And that's where it started.

Q: What's the difference between the short stories and the one-shots? Mostly, I usually have a long or dedicated main plot in my short stories, whereas in the one-shots, what is written is much more focused on an excerpt of the characters' interactions.

Q: what is the best way to read this? I wrote it in a way that basically all one-shots can be read as stand-alone pieces (same for each short story). Just read in the chronological order of events, as listed above.

Q: is it the same f!reader in all of these stories? Yes, it is The reader is based off of my Original Character, Shiori. I didn’t intend to make her a staple, but just liked the character too much to let it slide. I’ll eventually make a reference sheet with her story (as soon as I finish Sand and Snow, to avoid spoilers).

There are some things I want to put here because as an anxious writer, I like when other writers do this.

1. this is my COPIUM from the trauma I have endured during JJK (thanks Gege), so no matter what, THERE WILL BE A HAPPY ENDING for all characters. I just like the bumpy road, makes the happiness at the end feel worthwhile.

2. I decided to one-shot the ending. However, the long fic based off of this universe will probably have a slightly different and bigger one. There are many things (protagonist’s power journey, lore, her backstory, actual big plot that I have planned, etc) that I really want to write on the long fic, and didn’t find a way of doing so in these one-shots and short stories.

3. I don’t know if you’ve seen it, but I began cross posting these on AO3. The link is on the top.

4. The Big Sad™ and The Big Feels™ are about to get started. I’ll just finish up some one-shots first and then proceed with them. There will be angst, but a lot of fluff too.

Commentary

Random thoughts and fun facts from the author that absolutely no one asked for but I wanted to write anyway

Themes are... guilt, forgiveness, grief, and life after loss, I guess? Idk, I like writing characters interacting and growing with each other, so I just give them their trauma and let them work through it.

I first got inspired to write HiguReader when I listened to “Loser, Baby” from Hazbin Hotel. They’re both so over Jujutsu High’s shit and vibe on that shared contempt that I just loved the concept of it.

One of my favorite things to do is getting traits from a character and twisting them to be a double edged knife - a quality and a flaw at the same time. Basically, that’s what I did with Nanami’s protective persona, and intend to do (as of writing this on march 24th) with Higuruma’s sense of justice and responsibility.

I was terrified writing my first smut piece (The Man who Played with Fire), and I’m astonished at how well it was received. You guys are the best, seriously.

Nanami’s suffering will end soon (I say as of writing this, march 24th).

I got inspired by some very talented authors on this site to write non-explicit sex scenes, and will try doing it in two or three one-shots, where there is sex involved, but I don’t think smut would fit very well.

Writing smut as a demisexual person is an entire experience, let’s just say that.

From the very beginning, I just found it impossible in my heart to ship or even hint at shipping OC/Reader and Gojo. Also, as a NM person who doesn’t appreciate rigid hierarchy of romantic x platonic relationships, I wanted to write more on becoming friends with Gojo. However, from what I could see when writing these fics and shorts, this will end up mostly in the long fic.

I STRUGGLE with headers so damn much. I don’t like using fanart (shy to ask for permission), and finding good fitting anime frames/manga panels is usually a little difficult without becoming too repetitive. I’ll just try my best making headers for the AU stories moving forward.

I like writing strong, capable, willful female characters who are secure of themselves and have got some rizz iykwim. Dainty female characters are really not my thing when it comes to writing. I’ll eventually try writing more delicate or heart-warming female leads/readers, though, because we should strive to get out of our comfort zone.

Writing in 2nd person is still a challenge for me. I was used to writing in 1st person in a Lispectoresque style when I wrote ten years ago (also, I did it in my native language). “The Letter” will be (or “was”, depending on when you’re reading this) my attempt at transporting my original style of writing into English and reader insert.
